Haru’s Point of View
“What is that strange force?” Haru asked his grandfather.
His grandfather looked at him and it was absolutely clear that he was surprised.
His grandfather spoke, “The strange force that you have experienced is called the precaution of vision. As per my knowledge, it is extremely rare and only a few of the past vision holders had experienced it. The precaution of vision, as you said, is a force that basically tells you to do something.”
It was the next thing that his grandfather said which was something Haru did not expect at all.
His grandfather continued. “As I said before, it is a rare one. My grandfather told me that those few vision holders who experienced it were the ones who were the nearest to being successful. It is a force that helps you to save the person. In relation to the vision you have, it makes you do things that have a better chance of saving the person. It is strong and a vision holder does not have any other option than to comply with it. So, a vision holder who experiences the precaution of vision has a higher probability of succeeding in saving the destined person.”
As soon as Haru heard this, he became hopeful. He was determined to save Rin before but deep down he felt insecurity eating him. He was scared and he did not want to admit it. He was toughing it out for Rin’s sake. However, now that he knew he has a higher probability of succeeding, it added to his determination and made it a lot better. Even though he has not succeeded at the moment, he felt like he had a small amount of burden leave his shoulders.
He was lost in these thoughts that his grandfather had to nudge him and call him. Haru snapped out of his thoughts and apologized to his grandfather.
His grandfather shook his head and said, “It’s okay dear. You must have a lot to think about and I can understand. One more thing. I need to warn you about the precaution of vision. Remember what I told you about it being something that has to be complied with?”
Haru gulped and nodded.
His grandfather continued, “If you are about to do something which the precaution of vision deems unnecessary, harmful, and something that should not be done in your path to save the person, then you will experience a sharp ache in your head. The ache will grow worse with every wrong step you choose or if you do not comply with the precaution of vision. So, Haru do not bring pain to yourself okay?”
Haru was learning so much about visions. All this information would be helpful in saving Rin and he was grateful for it.
“I understand grandpa. I will be careful.”
His grandfather nodded and said, “Remember Haru, everything is connected. One thing leads to another. Sometimes you will be able to make out which thing is connected to the other one and be able to make choices depending on it. However, sometimes it might not be clear and you might end up being stressed and in a mess. It will feel like it is too much with the responsibility and the burden of our ancestors to save the person. At those times, the ability of vision will be a curse and you might wish you never had it. However, the most crucial thing you should remember at that time is the person you need to save. Forget about the curse, our ancestors, and the burden. You feel a special connection with the destined person. It is something that I understood when I was the vision holder. Nothing about the burden mattered to me, I just wanted to save the person I had to. It was partly because of the curse but it was mostly because of the connection I felt with the person. Her smile and the fact that she was alive at that moment were all that mattered to me. Ah, I am getting off track. What I want to say is that, no matter what happens, I like to believe that it will all get back together because everything is connected. I do not know if I am making sense. If you need any help, come to me okay?”
Haru felt sad. His grandfather could not save the person. It must have hurt a lot. He confirmed that through his grandfather’s eyes. It looked like his eyes were lifeless.
He hugged his grandfather and said, “Okay grandpa I will.”
His grandfather then stood up and said it was late. He left Haru’s room with Haru helping him to the living room. His grandfather and his two uncles left the house after bidding goodbye.
After closing the main door, Haru was not sure if he should talk to his father since he said he had something to tell Haru. He was debating about it when his father called him and asked him to sit on the sofa.
Haru obeyed and sat on the sofa.
His father looked up from one of the papers he was reading and said. "It is late today. You can go rest. You have to attend college tomorrow right?"
Haru nodded.
His father continued, “So we will talk about it tomorrow. Goodnight”
Haru replied, “Okay father. Goodnight.”
Haru stood up and left the living room. He walked to his room and locked his door. He went straight to the bathroom to take a shower. He undressed and stepped into the shower.
After he was done, he changed into new clothes and picked up the worn clothes to put them into the laundry basket. Just then he remembered about the letter Rin wrote. He quickly searched for it and put it on his study table. He then put the clothes into the basket.
He got into his bed. He put his hands under his head and stared at the ceiling. He thought, “There are so many things that I don’t know about Rin. I wished I asked for her number today but that would probably have been weird and creepy. A guy who she just met today asking for her number would have probably scared her away. Oh s**t, I forgot to ask grandpa more about the repeating visions. I guess I will drop by his home tomorrow. Wait, not tomorrow. Father said he has something to tell me. I will just give grandpa a call tomorrow and see.”
He yawned. Surprisingly, the talk made him exhausted. He quickly set an alarm and turned off the lights.
He slowly dozed off.
