Chapter 5: The fate

1051 Words
Haru got into his car and drove home. He stopped on the way home for eggs and toothpaste. After reaching home he went for a shower. As if a hot shower would solve all of his problems. But it could at least relax him a little right? He got out of the shower, dried off the water, and changed into a black hoodie and track pants. He went to the bed and laid down. He had this heavy feeling. Maybe it was due to his unspoken promise to save the woman. It was a heavy decision and someone's life was literally at stake. But this did not make him back off his decision. He was a man after all, and a man keeps his word. He suddenly got up, remembering the crumbled paper in his pockets. It was in the pocket of the jacket he wore to college. Which as he remembered, was in the laundry basket. "s**t", he muttered and dashed out the room. Hoping that his mother has not done the laundry. He went into the laundry room and let out a breath of relief. The jacket was in the basket. He walked towards it and slowly pulled out the crumpled paper from the jacket. He went to his room and locked his door. He went to his study desk and sat on the chair. Whatever the paper’s content was, it was written by the woman in his vision. It could be related to her death. His hands trembled. He was aware. Aware that if he is not able to save her, he will be filled with guilt and regrets. Some part of him did not want to get involved in this. But there was no way he could just ignore his vision. Just when he knew who the person in the vision was and when she was this close to him. He hardened his resolve, mentally scolding himself for even thinking that. He slowly opened the paper and pressed his hand on it to make it flat. He was about to read it when he heard a knock on his door. It was his mother. “Come out for dinner sweetie”, she called out. “Can you wait a while? I will come as soon as I am done with something”, he replied. “Your father is here and sitting at the dining table”, she said. "Okay, I am coming now", he replied. Haru did not want to anger his father. So he put away the paper. Mentally apologizing that he will read it after he is done with dinner. His father was a moody person. And he definitely could not anger him because if his father got mad, there was going to be trouble. Which he did not want. He silently walked into the kitchen and sat on the chair next to his father. He greeted, “Good evening father”. His father sternly said, "Good evening. How are your studies going? It should go well. Do you understand?" Haru replied, “Yes Father”. His father did not say anything else. Haru could see that his father was already in a bad mood, and one wrong move could lead to a toxic environment at home. So the best solution was to keep his mouth shut and move carefully so that he does not mess up. The dinner was quiet. No one was talking, all that could be heard was the sound of spoons clattering against the plates. After they were done, Haru excused himself to go into his room to study. He walked into his room and quietly locked it. He let a sigh of relief. Because he got out of the tense environment. He finally sat down on the chair and started reading the paper. "First of all, none of this is anyone's fault. It's my fault. I have never imagined I would write it, though I have imagined writing it a lot. I do not know if I will be sorry that I am not alive but I can confidently say that I am glad it ended. Please do not blame yourselves. No one could have helped me. I have tried going to a therapist and I have also taken medicine to help me. But nothing worked. Nothing worked at all. It has been a long time that I had the intention of doing this- ending everything. And finally, here I am. It does feel weird knowing when someone reads this, I will be long gone. Sorry for being worthless while I was alive. Even if I stayed, I would have just used up space for someone useful. But it is better now since I have decided. It has been too long wanting to die and now that I finally have decided to, I am happy." “What the hell? This is a suicide note right?” Haru panicked. He got up from the chair and paced back and forth in the room, not knowing what to do. All he could hope was that she did not do it tonight and that she is alright. As he was panicking right now, he could not think calmly. After some time, he calmed down. This time he thought about it rationally. “If she was going to suicide and leave this note behind, why did she throw it away? Is it because this one was just a draft?” He further analyzed the situation. “The one who wrote this suicide note is the woman from my vision. There is no doubt about it. So what was the most prominent thing in my vision? It was cherry blossoms. Cherry blossoms bloom in spring. Then what happened in my vision? The flowers fell and withered. Okay. So when do the flowers wither away? Maybe after three weeks, they bloom. Right? So she died soon after they withered. This means she will die before spring ends." He was silent for a while, then the realization of the direness of the situation crept into him. Three horrible thoughts popped into his mind. First, right now the month was April. Second, the cherry blossoms were in bloom for nearly a week. Third, is the time left enough to save her?
