Her Saviour

Chapter 57

Haru’s Point of View

Haru was sitting on the sofa after he told Rin that she can tell him when she is ready. He was contemplating whether he should ask Rin to eat some food even when she said she did not want it at the moment.

He was worried that she would become weak. Besides, given that she was already pale and frail, his logical part of the brain was nudging him into asking her. In midst of the decision making phase, he saw her trying to adjust to the bed. He hastily walked over to her and he spoke,

“Do you want me to make the bed a little higher?”

Rin nodded. He searched for the buttons that controlled the bed and then pressed it for the upper part of the bed to become higher. He adjusted it while asking her for the right height.

After he was done, Rin rested her body on it.

She asked, “How long was I asleep for?”

He replied, “About an hour.”

Rin nodded and smiled at him.

Haru was making up his mind to ask her to eat some food when the nurse came in. As soon as she saw Rin, she smiled. She asked her, “How are you feeling now?”

Rin smiled back at her and spoke, “Much better.”

She did some necessary routine checkups. Then she spoke, "Your sugar level is a little low, other than that you are completely fine."

Then she turned to Haru and spoke, “Can you give her something to eat?”

Haru cursed himself in his mind and thought, “that is what I literally was trying to do for the past few minutes”. Nevertheless, he nodded.

Then he watched as the nurse left the room.

Then Haru stood up and walked to the table where he kept the basket he brought from his mother. He took out some containers, a plate, a spoon, and a mug. Then he opened the containers and then scooped some food and placed it on the plate. He also opened a flask and poured some hot water on the mug. He placed it on a tray and brought it towards the bed.

As he was carrying the tray, he was about to keep it back on the table so that he could pull the folded table from the side of the bed.

However, Rin pulled the folded table and Haru continued walking towards her and placed the tray on it.            

He watched her look at the food with the stars in her eyes. It was like he just bought a child some candy.

Rin asked, “Where did you bring the food from?” and then looked at Haru.

Haru did not expect her to ask that. He smiled and replied, “My mom cooked it. I just bought it two hours ago.”

Rin smiled. Looking at her Haru was glad that he asked his mother to cook it rather than bringing a takeaway from a restaurant.

Haru was even gladder that she could eat on her own. This meant that she was getting better.

After three to four spoons, she looked at Haru and asked him to join her.

He politely refused by saying that he had already eaten. However, he could not help but feel flattered that she thought to ask him. It could be out of pure courtesy but it did not stop Haru from feeling that Rin cared about him.

Rin nodded at his refusal and then continued eating.

Haru waited until she was done. After she was done, he took the tray and then put it back in the basket.

After a while, he helped Rin out of the bed and helped her walk to the bathroom door. He then walked back and sat on the sofa.

*After a while*

After Rin was back on her bed, he walked towards the sofa and sat on it. He glanced at Rin and saw that she was leaning on the bed. He remembered that his battery was about to die so he put his phone on charge. While he was doing that, he heard Rin calling his name.

At that instance, he automatically worried that something might be happening to her. So he turned towards her and hurriedly walked over to her. When he reached, he asked, “Is everything fine? Are you in pain?”

After a short duration of silence, she asked.

“When did my father come and shifted me into this room?”

Haru looked a little shocked by what she had just asked him. She was not awake when her father came two days ago. He thought, “How can she be so sure?”

He decided that maybe it was because they were a family that she understood it that well.

He then answered, “After you were brought into the hospital, I called him. So, two days ago he came and shifted you here.”

Rin nodded and spoke, “Then he did not come here at all, right?”

Haru’s eyes widened but he nodded. Then as he watched Rin’s smile, he realized that this was not a sign of her knowing her father in a positive manner. It was a sign of Rin being disappointed and her expectations hurting her to the point that she knew what was going to happen.

Haru felt his heart ache when he thought how all this might be hurting her.

Just then he heard her speak, "Do you know what actually happened?"

Haru looked up and he had an idea about what she was asking him.

Rin continued, "About why I am here."

Haru walked towards her and then sat down on the stool near her bed. He spoke, "I know that you jumped off a six storied building."

Haru was contemplating whether he should tell her everything. He was planning to tell her everything because she had the right to know it. However, Haru was not sure if it was the right time to tell her. Originally, he wanted her to know when he was better. A lot better than right now.

Rin spoke again, "After falling from a six storied building, I did not die? How is this even possible?"

Her eyes were fixed on him.

Haru looked at her. Her light blue eyes were pleading him. So he gave up. He spoke,  

"It is true that you jumped from that height and that you should have probably died from it. The nurses and the doctors were also confused. The waitress at the café saw you jumping and I think they also have a CCTV footage of it. However, since you are alive, they have not disclosed the truth. They do not have answers to it. Neither do I. And looking at you, it seems that you do not have it too. The hospital staff has decided to put on your medical record that you were involved in a minor accident. That is what they told your father too."

Haru stopped for a while and looked at Rin. She looked startled by what she just heard.

Haru thought, “What did I just do? Was it a wrong choice to tell her right now?”
