Chapter 23: The appearance of Aki

It was a beautiful place; Heaven. It was a place many people would be happy living in. It was peaceful and all the angels here were kind to people. Aki was an angel who had lived for several hundred years though he retained the looks of a 25 years old man. For those years with many other angels, he had fulfilled the duty of overseeing the people who entered heaven after they died. However, for the first time, Aki was chosen to become a guardian angel of a human. It was a special task. It required helping the human to overcome troubles in their life. A human was only provided a guardian angel by the Heaven if he or she was vulnerable to undesirable situations written in his or her fate. Guardian angels did not know the detrimental things that would happen in the human’s life. They were saviors if they succeeded. However, if they failed, guardian angels would be turned into a human. It was a punishment; to go through the pain humans feel. Guardian angels felt the positive emotions but they did not feel the negative ones. Every guardian angel was bestowed with an ability when they were chosen to be one. Aki was bestowed with the ability called Akeso. It was a healing ability.

Guardian angels were permitted to help the humans with their ability but there were some rules that they needed to abide by. They were not allowed to show themselves. They could not use their power to revive a person who is dead. They could not fall in love with the humans.

Aki had been a guardian angel for twenty one years. He had been with this human from the time she was born. That was the first time he had seen a human being born. He could not understand the pain her mother had gone through, but he was there to share her happiness when the baby was in her arms. He was there when her mother named her “Rin”. He was there every time when Rin cried at night. He wanted to pick her up and hold her in his arms until she fell asleep. However, he was there when Rin’s mother came and did that. He was there when Rin started crawling. He was there when Rin started walking. He was there whenever Rin fell and scraped her knees or her arms. He was there when Rin went to school for the first time. He was there when her mother was diagnosed with a terminal illness. He was there beside Rin, helpless, watching her mother slowly become weak. He was there when Rin cried a lot when her mother died. He was there when most of Rin’s soul was broken and when she started to look lifeless. It was at that time that Aki started to feel emotions such as grief and sadness. He just could not bear seeing Rin like that.

A guardian angel feeling those emotions was something that was out of the norm for the Heaven. Aki was ordered to come to Heaven. For the first time in sixteen years, Aki had to leave Rin’s side. The heaven judged his actions. As he had done something out of the norm, Aki was judged strictly. The heaven made its decision to remove Aki from being Rin’s guardian angel. However, Aki begged the heaven to change its decision. Since Aki had been diligently working for the past several hundred years, the heaven decided to change it.

Aki was not going to be removed from being Rin’s guardian angel and he can continue being her angel but he was restricted from going to the human realm or getting any information about Rin for five years. This was decided in order to let Aki regain his immunity to negative emotions. Aki agreed and did not go back to Rin for five years.

Exactly five years had passed since then.

“Rin, you are 21 years old now. I am coming back to you.” Aki thought.
