Haru’s Point of View
After he smoked, he stayed in the shower and let the hot water fall on his body. His thoughts diverted to Rin and wondered if she was asleep. He came out of the shower and got into his bathrobe. He unlocked his bathroom door and stepped into his bedroom. It was 5 am. As soon as he saw what time it was, he thought that Rin would probably be asleep.
Remembering his vision, he thought about how he could talk Rin out of suicide. He cannot talk about it like he knows what Rin was planning. He did know about it. However, if he talked about it, it would seem creepy and terrifying if she knew that he knew it.
He sighed.
“How should I convince her not to?” he thought.
He searched for answers in his brain for nearly an hour but he could not get one. There was nothing he could think of on how to approach her about it. He cannot just wait for her to become close with him. There was no time for that. Haru sighed again.
Then he remembered what his grandfather told him.
“Everything is connected. One thing leads to another. Sometimes you will be able to make out which thing is connected to the other one and be able to make choices depending on it. However, sometimes it might not be clear and you might end up being stressed and in a mess. It will feel like it is too much with the responsibility and the burden of our ancestors to save the person. At those times, the ability of vision will be a curse and you might wish you never had it. However, the most crucial thing you should remember at that time is the person you need to save. Forget about the curse, our ancestors, and the burden.”
He could not find the connection and what to do. The important thing he should remember at the moment is Rin and he decided to do that. He closed his eyes and remembered Rin. All he wanted was for her to be happy and alive. His grandfather was right. Rin was the destined person to be saved but it was not only because of that. He felt a connection with Rin, a strong connection because of which it did not matter that he has to save her because of the curse. Even if the curse was not there, Haru would have given all he had and all he is to save her.
With this, Haru felt like he can do something about Rin when the right comes. He has the vision and the precaution of vision too. He has a higher probability rate of saving Rin and he would accomplish it.
He checked the time. He did not know a lot of time had passed. It was 8 am. As soon as he got up to get ready, his mother called him that breakfast was ready.
Haru replied that he would come soon. He was still in his bathrobe. He hurriedly opened his wardrobe and picked up the clothes.
He decided on black jeans and a white shirt. He took a black jacket just in case. He took his wallet, car keys, lighter, cigarettes, and his bag. He unlocked his bedroom door and went to the dining table.
His father was already there sitting and reading a newspaper. He looked up when Haru sat.
“Good morning father” Haru greeted. “Good morning mom” he added.
His mother smiled and rubbed his hair. “Good morning sweetie”.
“Good Morning” his father spoke.
His mother then served them breakfast and they started eating in silence. After they were finished, it was 9 am. Haru thought that there was still some time left until he needs to leave for college. In the meantime, his father was about to leave. Before he left, he spoke to Haru.
"You remember that we will talk later right?"
Haru replied, “Yes father”
His father spoke again, “Okay then. Be home by 5 pm. I will reach around 5:30 pm.”
Haru nodded.
He watched his father leave the house. Since he had some time left, he went back to his bedroom and called his grandfather. His grandfather picked up the call on the fourth ring.
“Hi grandpa”. Haru said.
“Yes Haru”, his grandfather said from the other end of the phone call.
“I forgot to ask about something yesterday. So I was wondering when you will be free.” Haru asked.
Haru heard a cough from the other side. His grandfather then spoke, “I am free whenever you are dear. Come over today after you are done with college.”
Since Haru’s classes get over by 2 pm. He had plenty of time to go to his grandfather’s house before 5 pm.
“Okay grandpa, I will be there. Haru spoke and ended the call. Haru walked back into the living room and saw his mother doing the dishes. He walked over to her and spoke.
“Mom? How did you and father meet?”
His mother looked surprised and said, “Haru sweetie. What happened? All of a sudden you ask me this question?”
Haru replied, “It’s just that yesterday grandpa told me a lot more about visions. I was just wondering if father knew you through a vision or something like that. “
His mother spoke, “I do not know if your father knew me like that. He never spoke about it. But let me tell you one thing. Your father was not as stern and scary as he is right now in the past. He was sweet, caring and he used to always smile.”
Haru was startled to hear that and said, “What happened to him then?”
His mother stopped what she was doing and looked at Haru and said, “I do not know for sure but one thing I am certain. It’s because of the vision.”
Before Haru could say anything, his mother pointed at the clock. Haru looked at it, and it was 9: 20 am.
“Oh, I don’t want to be late”, he spoke and hurriedly walked out of the door.
One reason he did not want to be late was that he wanted to sit next to Rin. He thought what if he was late and someone was already sitting beside her. He started his car and drove to the college. He did not have enough time for a smoke so he directly drove to college rather than stopping at the isolated place. Little did he know that if he stopped there, he would have met Rin there.
He reached the college and parked his car. He walked towards the first class they had together. As soon as he reached, his eyes searched for Rin but she was not there. He went to sit where they did yesterday. He checked the time, it was 9:45 am. He thought he would be late but did not expect to reach fifteen minutes early.
He just sat there scrolling through social media on his phone. However, his attention was not on his phone. He was lost in his thoughts. Around five minutes later, he heard a cough. He looked at the origin of the sound and it was Rin.
His heart skipped a beat when he saw her looking at him and Haru knew he probably looked dumb. She was gorgeous. He quickly composed himself and smiled at Rin.
Rin smiled at him and said, “Hi Haru”.
Haru melted at her smile and the fact that she was talking to him. He replied, “Hey”.
Rin sat beside him near the window. Haru was thinking about how to start a conversation with her when he heard her speak.
“Haru?” He turned his head to look at her. She continued, “Are you free later?”
Haru was stunned. He wanted to say something to her and possibly ask her to meet him. However, right now she was the one asking him. He hoped she was actually asking him to meet her. He pushed the thought aside and replied, “Later as in when?”
She spoke, “After your classes get over”.
Haru remembered he had to go meet his grandfather. However, he figured that his grandfather would not mind if he explains that he went to meet Rin. He decided he will call his grandfather that he will be a little late. In order to know how late he will be, he asked, "Um, will it take long?"
To which Rin replied, “Nope. Not much. I just wanted to thank you for yesterday with a smoke at the same place as yesterday”.
Haru was overcome with a gush of joy. He could not help but smile and said, “Sure Rin. After classes are over right? I will be there. Can you wait at that place? My last class gets over at 2 pm. I will be there as soon as I can.”
As soon as he said that, he watched as Rin smiled. She said, "Okay. Thank you, Haru."
Haru replied, “No problem.”
Just then the lecturer came in and all he could think about was Rin and her smile not knowing the reason Rin wanted to meet him.
