Chapter 24: Pain and Guilt

1262 Words
Haru’s Point of View After the lecturer came in and started teaching the students, Haru was becoming excited with every second that passed by. He was somewhat relieved that Rin asked him to meet her. This was because Haru could not think of a reason as to how to ask Rin out. It was not something that could be called a date because Rin’s life was at stake, literally. It was not an appropriate time for that. Nonetheless, Haru was still excited about it. Even though what he and Rin had to overcome was extremely hard hurdles, Haru felt that seeing Rin helps him calmer about the whole situation. “I mean. Who would not? Just a look at Rin’s gorgeous smile and it feels like she could heal every pain in the world.” Haru thought. With this, he sneaked a peek at Rin. She was looking out the window and seemed like she was lost in thoughts. Haru could not help but continue staring at her with a smile. He had his face in his left hand supported by the desk. He became lost in her. Rin turned her head towards him and her eyes looked at him. He did not remember that he was sneaking a peak and even though Rin was aware that he was looking at her, Haru did not want to move his eyes away from Rin. When Rin started blushing, Haru was internally screaming about how cute Rin looked. He just wanted to cover her with a soft blanket and cuddle her. He wanted to tell her that he would do anything for her and that everything will be fine. Rin looked away. At this point, Haru realized what he had done. “Oh my god, how could I do that? I have not been able to talk to girls properly and here I was, staring at Rin like some old perverted man. Oh my god, what did I do? I hope she is not infuriated.” He thought. Rin was hastily flipping her notes and trying to focus on the lecture. Haru was contemplating whether he should pass a note to her saying “sorry”. However, he decided that it was best not to disturb her while she was listening to the lecture. He felt a little bad. "I should have controlled my gaze," he thought. Nevertheless, Rin did not seem annoyed by it. This calmed Haru’s anxiousness. The rest of the class flew by pretty fast with Haru sneaking a peek at Rin whenever he could and Rin not turning towards Haru after she blushed. After the lecturer left the class, Haru turned towards Rin and spoke with a smile, “I guess I will see you later. Bye Rin.” Rin smiled back and replied, “Okay Haru. See you.” Haru then picked up his belongings and started walking out of the class. As soon as he stepped out of the classroom and was out of Rin's sight, Haru felt a strange force. As he recalled that it was the precaution of vision, it was telling Haru not to go meet Rin. Haru was confused. He was not certain why he was not supposed to go. Even though he was not planning to disobey the force, he suddenly got a sharp pain in his head. He had to stop walking and find a place to sit down. He did not understand the reason for it. Maybe it was something vast that he could not disobey. He trusted the force and decided not to go meet Rin without questioning the precaution of vision. With this, the ache in his head slowly subsided. Haru felt guilty that he would leave Rin like that so he ran back to the class to find her. However, he could not find her and he did not remember her next class. He also did not have her mobile number so that he could tell her that he could not come. He had no other option. He walked to his next class not knowing what to do. He stayed in the class he had right after the first one but he could hardly bear it, so he bunked. The only place he could think of was going to his grandfather’s house. So, he did that. However, before he went there. He went to the isolated place for a smoke. It was fine because Rin would come to this place only at 2 pm. After he was done smoking, he drove to his grandfather’s house. It took around 25 minutes to reach his house. After he reached, he realized that he forgot to call his grandfather that he was coming early. Nevertheless, he figured that it would be fine. His grandfather was the most understanding and patient one of all the people he knew. He walked towards the porch and rang the doorbell. The caretaker woman in her forties opened the door and smiled as soon as she saw Haru there. “Oh my, it is Haru. It’s been a long time since you came here. You have grown.” Haru smiled back and said, “Hi Auntie. How have you been?” “I am good. Come inside. Grandpa is in the sitting room on the sofa watching the television.” She spoke. Haru nodded and walked into the sitting room. As soon as he did, his grandfather turned his head towards the sound of Haru’s footsteps. His grandfather looked a little confused and worried. "What happened, dear? You said you would come later. Did something happen?" He asked. Haru let out a sigh and explained what happened. His grandfather listened carefully to him. He remained silent for a while and then spoke. "Haru, that is fine. And it is good that you did not go against the precaution of vision. Everything it compels you to do, it is for the better. Both for her and you. I will not tell your father that you skipped the classes today, so stay here until you need to go back okay?" Haru nodded in reply. They had just finished talking about what happened when the caretaker aunt came in with tea. She served them and went back to do her chores. Haru drank the tea and chatted with his grandfather. After an hour passed by, Haru remembered that he wanted to ask about “repeating visions”. This is what he thinks is the vision connected with Rin is. He had gotten the vision for the past three nights and it was all about Rin. Haru spoke, “Grandpa? About the thing that I wanted to ask you.” His grandfather nodded and said, “Continue.” Haru continued, “It is about repeating vision. Can you tell me everything you know about it?” His grandfather stroked his beard and seemed to be thinking about it. Then he spoke, "As you know, a vision holder gets a vision about anything in their life. Most of them are not meaningful and are fragmented. A lesser amount of visions provide a clearer clue for the vision holder to change the course of events. However, repeating visions are the type of visions that are associated with the destined person that a vision holder has the task to save. I did not have the repeating vision. However, your father had it. He knows a lot about it than I do. Make some time to talk with him.” Haru nodded and thought if his father wanted to talk about that.
