The waiter brought in our order I took a mouthful of the coffee paying maximum attention to my food to avoid locking eyes with anyone, Jess didn't notice them come into the shop if not she would had something to say, even though Jess and Jake are related and they grew up together they don't get along well.

Jess once told me about how they were so close growing up and did everything together but now he is a totally different person most times they walk past each other in the hallway barely acknowledging one another’s presence.

“Can you do a favor?” Jess said with a pleading face

“What do you want” I whined, I knew she was going to ask for something bizarre with the faces she was making

“The lingerie I-”

“Oh just hold it there” I cut her shut, I didn't want to know where she was going with it

“You didn't even let land” she laughed

“I don't want to hear it”

We both laughed about it

“But for real just take a long shower shave your whole area, put it on, and look at yourself in the mirror, and woah, I can imagine it and it's a sexy sight” she said closing her eyes

“Snap out of it” I laughed tossing an ice cube on her

She knew everything she was saying didn't move me but the least she could do was try I really appreciate but no I don't feel pretty talk more of feeling sexy anytime Jess would say it I just felt she was trying me to hype me up to make me feel better but I don't, I'm just that fat, ugly girl going to a school for rich people as a scholarship student nothing more.

Jess wanted to say something but her smile turned to an irritated look, I knew what she saw that made her look like that but I pretended not to know

“Why is your face like that” I laughed

“Is that Ashton winking at me” she pointed

I looked in the direction she pointed at it was the table Jake, Mason, and Ashton sat on Jess finally saw them.

“Oh yeah” I faked a small laugh

“Just when we thought we found our spot,” Jess said shooting him a look of annoyance

“We would find a better spot” I tried to cheer her which sucked because I really liked the vibe of the cafe

“We won't leave just because of them,” Jess said

“Yeah but now there come here tomorrow this place would be flocking with girls” I reminded her

“Oh, snap that's true everyone in school will be here by tomorrow,” Jess said

“I wonder what girls see exactly” Jess added shooting them an irritated look

They are one of the most popular people from our school and girls follow them around like flies so anything they are seen doing automatically becomes a trend, items get sold out just because they wore them they were like big influencers.

Out of nowhere the three of them appeared at our table at sat down with us, which was weird. I just avoided eye contact with anyone who faced my food and acted like I didn't see them.

“Hey cuz, what are you doing here?” Jake asked

“Doing laundry” Jess said sarcastically

“Ha ha very funny,” Jake said

“Hey sweetheart, how was your day?” Ashton asked Jess flirtatiously, Ash is known for being very flirty with girls and he was here trying to do it with Jess

“Oh swallow those words back” Jess snapped

“Ouch, my poor heart” Ashton joked clutching his heart

Meanwhile, Mason sat there very calm and collected. If not because of the tension his presence brings he was almost invisible because of how quiet he always was.

“What do you guys want? why are you here?” Jess finally asked I was also curious

“What do you mean? Can't I say hi to my favorite cousin?” Jake asked wearing a cheeky smile

“Ewwwww!!!” Jess shouted with a really irritated look

Ashton busted into laughter. I even heard a chuckle from Mason, it was really funny especially how she spoiled her face but I didn't even c***k a smile. It was an awkward space and I felt like I didn't belong so I just sat. I played with my food, no sounds, nothing.

Jake rolled his eyes at Jess and said “We just decided to say hi when we saw you guys, anything wrong with that?”

“Yesssss it is and very very very weird if you ask me,” Jess said

“Well get used to it,” Jake said and took her coffee and took a sip

“Hi Kessie,” Jake said smiling

I knew he was referring to me as Kessie but that wasn't the issue, why was he talking to me? It made my mouth go dry.

“It is Kayla you dumb fool,” Jess told him

“I knew that” Jake scowled at her

But did he? For someone who tormented me all through when we were kids the least you can do is remember my name but he didn't.

“Kayla how are you today,” he asked again which was really confusing why was he trying to get me to talk, what exactly was happening I thought to myself

“I'm f-fine” I managed to say

“That's great” he replied

Jess had the most confused look on her face she didn't get what was going on neither did I

“Are you eating that?” Ashton asked pointing to my coffee cake

“No,” I said, which was a lie but I couldn't say yes. He let out a happy sound, picked it up, and devoured it, I winced internally with every bite he took because I was saving the best for the last now someone’s face was in it.

“Alright see you guys in school tomorrow,” Jake said as they were ready to go

“Thank you for the cake” Ashton winked at me

“Bye, cuz say hi to uncle for me,” Jake told Jess trying to rub her head but Jess slapped it off giving him a weird look.

“What just happened” Jess asked me as they left utterly confused but I had no words because I was more confused Jake Kelter just spoke to me!
