“Where have you been I have been calling,” Jess said, I didn't even notice her there I removed my phone from my pocket and saw five missed calls from her I didn't even hear my phone ring
“Sorry I didn't hear my phone ring, let's get going”
I said I didn't want to tell her about the whole encounter I just had, I promised myself that I would not be a burden to her this semester but it is hard to hide something for Jess.
“What is wrong, are you good?” she asked
“Yeah I'm fine, why would you ask that?” throwing her a smile I just wanted to ignore everything that just happened
“What happened to your shirt? Where are the buttons? ” she asked giving me a suspicious look
“Oh th-that, it just fell off such weak stitches'' I lied through my teeth, and she looked at me like she was trying to read, I stared at my shirt because that gaze could get the truth out of me.
I know she knew I wasn't telling her the truth because she always catches me anytime I lie. She says I'm the worst liar ever but I guess she just decided to let it go.
“Alright let us go” she smiled holding my hand, I smiled but it was fake. I felt bad for lying to her but I didn't want to worry her.
“We should grab something at the new coffee shop, I've been craving their iced coffee. It'll be a nice way to end the day, my treat” I smiled
“Yaay!!!” Jess playfully jumped
I always tried to do things for Jess and gift her once in a while no matter how little it is because she is such a big gifter so I try to reciprocate her energy even though I can never meet even half but that is the only that I won't feel like a leech by only receiving and not giving back that is not me at all.
“I'm sure their iced coffee will be just what we need. Plus, it'll be a nice way to relax and unwind after a long day. I'm excited to try it out with you!” she said so bubbly
“We should try some of their desserts too while we're there”. I told her
“Of course we would” she replied
Now we got to her new car and I couldn't help but let out a loud squeal looking at it up close was unreal.
“Oh my God, you didn't tell me you finally got your dream car,” I said shocked with my hand over my mouth I couldn't believe it
Jess always wanted this car forever, we always talked about how we would go on road trips together with the roof open and blasting our favorite song through the speakers but all these plans were made for when she would turn eighteen because that was when her dad promised to get it for her, but how is got it two years earlier is beyond me
“Surprise!!!” she shouted her voice beaming with happiness
“How could you not have told me,” I said still shocked
“Because it is a surprise, I did everything in my power to keep this a secret,” she said grinning from ear to ear
“I'm so happy for you,” I said pulling her into a tight hug
“Thank you, I thought you already saw it this morning but when you didn't say anything about it I know you didn't,” she said
“We can now go for our trip” She held my hand and we jumped up and down both screaming happily.
“Now mademoiselle hop in let me give you a ride,” she said in her best French accent
“Si madam” I replied and entered the car, the car leather was so comfortable I rested my back on the seat and let out a long sigh it was a long day now I could let go of everything and relax
“Press that button” Jess pointed to a black button beside the gear, just as I was about to press it she stopped me
“Hold on,” she said “You will need this” She handed me a pair of sunglasses and she wore one herself still wearing a smile with no question asked I took the shades from her wore them then pushed the button as I did the roof of the car folded slowly
“That's so cool” I wowed
“I know right” Jess smiled at me
I winded down the window glass and stuck my head out of the window to feel the soft breeze against my skin, I brought my hand out to feel the wind everything just felt right no worries nothing, Jess tried to go through the radio station to get something that was good until she came across a station that was playing our favorite the weekend song ‘blinding light’ we both sang the lyrics as we drove to the restaurant.
When we got to the parking lot of the restaurant I let out a little sigh I didn't want that ride to end, and just as if Jess was reading my mind she said
“Don’t worry we will plan a proper road trip one weekend”
“I can't wait,” I said unbuckling my seat belt
Closing the front door, I stood in front of the coffee and took in the scupomcious aroma that was escaping. It made my mouth water, I could smell the freshly baked pastries.
Jess and I walked in together and sat across each other, the ambiance of the cafe was cool it made the atmosphere look warm and welcoming, it had this mint green and brown decor, and the smell of coffee beans and freshly baked pastries filled the room, this is a perfect place to just have an alone time and get stuffs done
“I think we have found the perfect spot,” I told Jess
“This place has a really nice vibe” I added
“Yeah, it is totally your style” Jess agreed
A waiter came and took our order, we both ordered their iced Americano and some pastries. One of the few things Jess and I have in common is our love for coffee. As we waited for the order to come the coffee shop door swung open and I looked to see who would walk in. Coming in through the door one after the other were Mason, Ashton, and Jake, Mason walked in first with his right hand in his pocket, our eyes met briefly, he had a blank straight face when he looked at me.
Ashton followed behind him he had headphones over his ear and was busy on his phone as he walked in, Jake strolled in next and he took a quick scan of the coffee shop then his eyes landed on me I froze on my seat, I don't know if I was seeing things but I could swear that he smiled at me but I quickly looked away confused about I should react.
