Kayla POV
The bell rang for the end of school so I quickly packed my books on the desk and headed out of the classroom I rushed out. I always do that to avoid Nicole most times I never even give her the chance to notice me because she would have something to say to me or do to me. I took out my phone and dialed Jess’s number,
“Hi babe,” I said as she picked up
“Are you done?” she asked
“Yeah, I'm heading out now, where are you?”
“I want to pick up my script for this year's play from the theater, just wait for me by the car I will join you shortly”
Jess was in drama class, and one of her numerous dreams was to be an actress, she just randomly picked up the interest one day and ever since then she has been rocking it, she is an Estella actress anytime she is on stage performing she becomes a different person because of how well she bodies a role.
“Ok, I will be waiting” I answered before ending the call
I was heading to the parking lot so I could wait for Jess so she could drive me home in her new car but I quickly paused my steps when I saw Nicole and her friends heading there, I turned around and headed in the opposite direction it was the first day of my sophomore year and I wanted to by all means possible avoid any encounter with her.
I just kept on walking forward, not looking back, and I found myself at the back of the school building. A few students were there, that is the place where things go down both after school and during lunch. I looked around me and a lot was going on, I had never been there but I had heard stories from Jess looking at it physically I couldn't believe my eyes, the place was well arranged with a cushion center table there was a vending machine, snooker table, video games it looked like a proper outdoor lounge, I knew I didn't belong in a place like this but it was either I kept walking or turn back to meet Nicole.
Some people were making out, one of the people making out looked like they were about to eat each other, while some were busy playing video games then I saw a group of people bending over the table, I wondered what they were doing until one of them raised his head sniffing and I saw a white powder on the top of his nose, I was shocked I knew rich people do a lot of kinds of stuff but in school environment is just crazy.
One of the guys sniffing the white substance looked at me, his eyes were bloodshot red I recognized him he was a senior, he sniffed not breaking eye contact using his left hand to wipe his nose he walked towards me, I knew he was coming to meet me but I looked away and tried to escape when I felt a tight grip on my wrist, a little yelp escape my mouth
“Peasant, who let you in here,” he said, his voice cold yet sharp. I tried to release my hand from his grip but he tightened it
“You are hurting me” I quietly begged not wanting to get others’ attention
“You haven't my question” he whispered against my neck I felt hot breath making me shudder in disgust
“Let me go!” I shouted trying to yank my hand away and push him but he didn't bulge, my shout called the attention of everyone there, and when he saw that he dragged me so roughly that I almost missed my step
“Look, I caught a spy,” he said to the other people
“I'm not a-” Before I could finish my statement a guy appeared from no and pushed my head back with so much force
“So you are the one,” the guy said
“I wonder why they would let a lowlife pig into our school” he added with so much venom
His words stung so hard I could feel my eyes water
“I'm so sorry for coming here but I'm not a spy I swear” I didn't know why I was apologizing but I just wanted to get away from there I realized they were a bunch of seniors, it would just have been better if I had ran into Nicole rather than this I thought to myself.
All my apologies fell on deaf ears when he said
“We will show you what we do to spies here piggy”
Before I could say jack the other guy grabbed onto my shirt and ripped it open, my buttons flying everywhere I let out a cry as I struggled to cover up myself hot tears started to roll from my eyes.
He picked up a half-filled bottle of soda on the table to pour it over my head, I closed my eyes waiting for the impact but it never came, I opened my eyes slowly and I looked up another guy appeared but he was holding the hand of the guy with the soda, my eyes were cloudy with tears so I couldn't see the face my savior I was surprised and confused as at who would come to my rescue all through my stay in this school Jess has been the only one to come through, every other person just ignore or stay there and laugh at me being humiliated.
I used the back of my hand to swiftly wipe my tears up and when I looked up again lo and behold it was Mason, I couldn't believe what I was seeing why was what I kept on asking myself.
Mason released his hand and the soda he held fell to the ground and shattered into pieces, how Mason just said “Scram” and they just walked away was beyond me, he looked at me up to down with a very cold and expressionless look with his face revealing no emotion before he proceeded to walk away
“Th-thank you” I managed to say but he just paused and looked at me dead in the eye with the same look before finally walking away.
