“Kat, did you see that?” Cody whispered to Katarina. They had been observing Terrence for almost two hours already inside the training room. He had been kicking and punching and shooting things nonstop. Now he’s thwacking the heck out of the punching bag while murmuring. They couldn’t hear what he was saying. Cody thought it was because of the woman they had been looking for for days already. But it wasn't the case now.
“I have eyes, Williams,” she annoyingly responded while staring at their boss. “He has been grumpy and absent-minded these days. I wonder what’s gotten into him.”
“The strange woman.” Sparrow butted in while wielding her katana in front of her two colleagues.
“Right! Boss is in love!” Cody blurted out loudly, getting Terrence’s attention. He walked towards them with a blank expression etched on his face.
“What did you say?!” He grabbed Cody’s collar and gave him a piercing stare. Katarina and Sparrow were both shocked and tried to pull Cody away from their enraged boss. They saw how Terrence strangled Cody and how he looked like a possessed person while doing this.
“Boss! Stop! You’ll kill him!” Katarina yelled as she yanked Terrence’s arms away from Cody. Sparrow helped her. Together, they were able to pull Terrence away from Cody, who’s coughing endlessly now while catching his breath.
Terrence just gave him a side glance and left the training room without saying anything.
“He’s insane!” Cody lashed out afterwards.
“Something’s definitely wrong with him. I’ll follow Boss T.” Sparrow announced. She fixed her clothes and took a 9MM pistol on the table.
Sparrow followed Terrence’s car using her black motorbike. She saw how he began terrorizing anyone he saw on the road. Without a trace of guilt on his face, he began shooting civilians. It’s like the more people he kills, the more eager he gets to kill some more.
“Tss. Love kills.” Sparrow commented as she continued to watch. It’s a horrifying scene, but she finds it oddly satisfying. Maybe being an assassin is messing up with her brain already. She knows that what he's doing is inhumane, but she can't hinder him from venting out his frustration.
After a few hours, Terrence stopped his shooting spree and went to Red Town. Sparrow decided to finally approach him.
She took the empty seat in front of him without saying anything.
"What do you want?" he coldly remarked as he noticed her presence.
"You're acting weird," she replied, earning a glare from him. She gave her a blank stare in return.
"It's just a woman. You're ruining your reputation and the organization."
Before he could react, Chester, the bartender, came and personally gave Terrence a bottle of whiskey and a glass.
"Hey Boss! Tough day today, huh?" Chester cheerfully greeted Terrence, but he just ignored him. He acknowledged Sparrow's presence by slightly bowing his head down and immediately left after.
Terrence absentmindedly poured whiskey into the glass and drank it.
"I saw some guards of the third family a while ago. They saw what you did," Sparrow continued. "The other families will surely know about it."
Sparrow saw how Terrence gripped the glass like he wanted to crush it upon mentioning the word "other families". Now she's sure that it wasn't just because of that woman.
"I will kill… all of them," he impetuously remarked while gripping the glass even tighter. She saw how his expression changed. His eyes were burning with anger.
"Let's go back to headquarters, boss. You can't do this alone. You need us," she calmly suggested. She finally got a slight hint about what was bothering him. It has something to do with other families.
Terrence took another sip before answering her. "You go ahead, I'll just let off some steam here."
She thought it'd be better to not directly ask him about it. She took her phone and sent a quick message on their group chat.
"Meeting at headquarters at 10." She left the bar afterwards and drove back to the mansion.
Cody and Katarina were arguing like a bunch of kids when she arrived.
"I won't talk to him! He's nuts!" Cody yelled.
"He's stressed. He didn't mean it. Stop whining!" Katarina yelled back.
"Katarina's right," Sparrow interjected. Both of them were startled and looked in her direction.
They all took a seat and Sparrow began telling them what had happened.
Cody finally understood why Terrence acted that way this morning.
"Now it's up to us to investigate them and help Boss T," Katarina proposed.
" Do you guys remember how he helped each one of us before?" Cody asked all of a sudden.
"Because of what other families did to us," Katarina responded and began to recall her past.
"I was dreaming of going to London before to study the arts. My family in Mexico couldn't afford to pay for my tuition. Just when I thought that going to London would be impossible, I saw a poster looking for female scholars for London University. Being a naive girl, I took the opportunity without thinking about the risk. All I could ever think about before was my dream of becoming a fashion designer."
Cody was all ears while Sparrow was just doing her own thing but still listening.
"What happened after that? Was it a scam?" Cody eagerly asked.
"Definitely a scam. There were ten of us dreaming of a bright future but ended up in a dark pit. It was a human trafficking scheme. As soon as we landed in London, we were brought to a strip club and became prostitutes. I was able to escape after two years and ended up roaming the streets of London. Boss T helped me when some group of hoodlums tried to take advantage of me. He saw how I took down some of them and asked me if I wanted to work for him. Because I owe him my life, I agreed. That's when I found out that it was the Third Family who did it to us."
"Oh, that day you arrived at the mansion looking like a beggar, that was the day he found you?" Cody interrupted.
"Yes," she shortly responded. Cody didn't react anymore, but after a few seconds, he began talking.
"Boss T was my schoolmate in high school." Katarina and Sparrow were both surprised to find out about it.
"I ate my lunch everyday inside the restroom just so I could eat peacefully. I was the target of bullies during that time. One time, I got caught by a group of seniors. I almost lost my life when they threatened to push me on the rooftop when Boss T arrived and saved me."
"I owe my life to him as well. He looked so cool that time. I think he was just fifteen back then. From then on, I vowed that when one day he'd need my help, I wouldn't hesitate. Also, after that day, he taught me some self-defense skills and so nobody bullied me anymore because of that."
At the end of Cody's storytelling, he looked around to see Sparrow looking intently at the monitor and busy searching for something while Katarina was just silently listening to him blabber for minutes.
"How about you, Sparrow? How did you end up here?" Katarina blurted out, looking in Sparrow's direction.
"She stopped typing and was about to talk when Terrence entered the headquarters.
"Prepare for an invasion," he announced with full conviction. Sparrow chuckled a bit. She knew he'd eventually come to his senses.
"Invasion? Who are we going to invade Boss T?" Cody asked.
"Let's begin with the Second Family's house," he briefly answered, and proceeded to tell the three of them what he found out.
"They all planned my father's death," he stated. The three of them gasped because of the gruesome information he revealed.
"The rest of the Five Families had planned to dissolve the Five Families so only one could control the entire organization. Only MY dad opposed their plan, so they killed him by putting arsenic in his favorite tea from the Third Family."
"Boss, let's not rush things. We need to plan this carefully." Sparrow objected.
"Sparrow's right. The other families may craft another plot to kill the new head of the First Family. Who knows if those who attacked the mansion last week were their guards." Katarina paused for a while.
"— or it could be that they colluded with other groups so we will think that they're innocent," she added.
"How did you find out about this boss?" Cody asked. He gave him a puzzled look.
"From Uncle Andrew. He was scared to reveal this secret at first, but he thought it was about time to reveal it."
"Can we really trust your uncle though?" Sparrow whispered to herself and went back to what she'd been doing a while ago.
