Chapter 1

Scarlett's POV

The rays of the sun are starting to peak through my dorm window before my alarm starts to beep. Today is finally the day I graduate from my college at LSU. I'm excited to see what the world has to offer, and hopefully find a place that feels like home. Here in the small town life of Louisiana I've always felt like I didn't belong. So here's to crossing my fingers on the journey I long to take to find my self and a place that feels like I belong while chasing my dream job of becoming a journalist editor.

Ugh. my cell phone is already ringing this early in the morning. I look at the caller ID and only answer because it's my mom checking in as always.

"HI mom" I answer her call.

"Scarlett dear, are you ready for your big day today?!" she asks me so excitedly.

"Of course I am mom. also a little nervous though to be quite honest."

"Of course you are dear, but I know you are ready for it. I raised you. I know you're tough enough to start this adventure you've been longing for." she reassures me.

"I know momma, I'll miss you." I say hiding back my tears.

"You'll do great Scarlett. You know your dad and I will come visit, this isn't goodbye darling. so don't start crying on your big day! We are excited to see what city you decide to start the next chapter of your life in with the job you've been dreaming about since you were little." she says.

" Mom you always know the right words to say." I say giggling

"There's that laugh I've been waiting to hear, I'm glad to know our chat helped ease your nerves darling. I have to go now just wanted to check in. Your dad and I will be there early to grab good seats for your big day. Good luck out there today honey!" she says

"Thanks momma, I'll see the both of you soon. bye mom, love you." I say

"See you soon dear, we love you. bye now" she hangs up.

3 hours later

It's time for our graduating class to take our seats in the auditorium and wait for our names to be called. Realization hits me when I take my seat in the front row. My stomach has now been taken over by butterflies realizing I had forgotten I'd be one of the firsts to walk on stage a recieve my diploma since my last name is Anderson. The suspense is killing me listening to all the speeches awaiting for my name to be called. I look around and catch a glimpse of my parents. My mother is waving her white handkerchief, And my father is giving me two big thumbs up. My nerves start settling after I spotted them cheering me on. after what seems like forever I hear my name being called.

"Scarlett Anderson" Blares through the intercoms

Here we go. Please don't fall. please don't fall. I repeat over and over in my head as the crowd cheers. I grab my diploma, shake hands with Mr. Welch, and pose for the photo. Exiting off the stage I take my seat once again and wait until our class has finished being called upon. Just like that we are set free to change and part ways. I didn't have friends I was to focused on my studies. riding back home with my family I was exhausted and overwhelmed from my nerves being shot all day.

" Honey, are you okay back there?" asks my dad.

"I'm ok dad, just a bit tired from all the excitement today."

We finally reach our driveway and dad opens my door.

"Well I hope you aren't to tired for a family celebration before you head off on your adventure." he says.
