chapter thirteen

Sounds could be heard from the kitchen Maya was busy with making dinner and she can't wait to be done with it she was about leaving the kitchen when a staggering James came into the kitchen he passed by Maya and she watched him go towards the fridge " you reek of alcohol James" he ignored her and took a bottle of water and then close the fridge he passed by her but suddenly stopped " Maya what would happen if the company goes down" Maya was confused about the sudden question

" I don't get it" he shook his and waved at her in a dismissing manner "Neve mind"

he left Maya didn't think too much about him it and decided to take her dinner upstairs to eat.

several days passed and James totally ignored Maya's presence it's like she doesn't even exist to him this of course made Maya very happy she could actually leave the house and return without a certain someone asking about her whereabouts but most times he would return home either drunk or stressed out this of course also didn't matter to Maya in as much he doesn't interact with her then it's non of her business. Maya was sitting in the living room watching TV when James and Lucy came inside while laughing at whatever the other said Maya ignored them and concentrated on the movie Lucy then spoke " oh your wife is home are you sure it's okay for me to be here"

James looked at her like she said the most ridiculous thing ever and he replied

" why not it's not like she could do anything and can you stop referring to her as my wife we are married but i don't accept her as my wife and never will I"

Lucy smiled " okay if you say so"

they went upstairs while kissing each other Maya closed her eyes and exhaled she then opened it and stare at the movie which was currently playing on the TV but she was no longer concentrating on it " this is it this is what my life had result to I hate him so much" she could no longer watch the movie she put off the TV and went upstairs when she passed by James room she could hear some faint noise coming from inside she gagged and quickly walked by she fell on the bed immediately closed her eyes .

A loud noise was heard from outside her door Maya sluggishly opened her eyes and walk towards her door she opened it and did not expect to meet who she met it was Lucy in her night wear smiling ridiculously at her " good morning Maya I see I woke you up from your precious sleep but you see I am hungry and so also is James so could you kindly go make us breakfast" Maya stared at her for a long while and closed the door at her face she went back to bed outside the door Lucy was shocked to have received such a behavior from Maya she was expecting her to actually obey her this made her angry she huffed and then left Maya could no longer sleep so she got ready but still stayed in her room she didn't feel like going out so she stayed in there she started to feel hungry so she decided to go get something to eat she left her room and went to the kitchen and prepared something the house was quiet which indicated that both of them wasn't at home Maya felt relieved she made herself breakfast and went to the living room she put on the TV and switched to news channel she was watching what was currently going on when the news changed to what was going on in the business world as it is the Lee family business is still making alot of progress and flourishing Maya thought about how good the current CEO is handling the business and as soon as she thought about him he was shown on the TV and the news caster was talking about him

" he has ways of always making himself known whenever I think about him "

Maya stared at his picture and her mind drifted to the time he called her beautiful

and their various other encounter she has this strange feeling of calmness whenever she was with him " what is this I am always feeling whenever he is with I have never felt like this before not even with james" she shook her head and look at her food " great it's going to get cold"

Maya was humming a song when James came in he could not walk properly he seemed to be staggering a little Maya knew he was drunk again she ignored him as always whenever he came home late at night drunk but this time James wasn't ignoring her he marched towards her and aggressively raised her up Maya was surprised and she asked him what was wrong he ignored her and dragged her up to his room Maya became scared firstly the grip James had on her hand was becoming painful and he was taking her to his room which means something is wrong and she is about to be beaten again this caused fear to erupt within her she was constantly asking and begging him to stop he opened the door to his room and threw her in he closed it and walked towards her he held by the neck with a strong hold " your mother also put hidden cameras in this house"

Maya could not breath she was suffocating and so she could not answer

James released her she fell on the bed while catching her breath James grew frustrated he screamed so loud Maya fear grew even more he looked at her

"you will have to pay for your mother's sin next to me she would think twice before doing anything reckless"

Maya knelt down and started crying

" please don't hit me am tired please"

James didn't pay attention to her he walked towards her and started beating her Maya screamed but there was no one to come to her rescue it took a long time for James to calm down he walked around the room and then picked a weak Maya up and took her to her room he dropped her hardly on the bed and went out of the room he slammed the door and locked it Maya cried for aong time

she lied on her bed weak and broken

she suddenly held a sound like a phone is ringing she didn't know how that was possible when James took her phone she then remembered the phone her mom sent she weakly stood up and opened her cupboard she took the phone and answered it she was expecting to hear her mother's voice but was surprised when she heard Jason's voice

" hello Maya" Maya didn't speak for sometime "ja..son" her voice was hoarse from crying too much " you are not okay"

maya did not answer more tears flowed from her eyes " it's okay maya I am here and I will help you just wait a little longer okay" Maya wanted to feel reassured with those words but she doesn't know how long it's going to take for her to finally break so all she had to do was say those simple words " please come quickly I don't know if I will be able to hold on any longer" " I promise"

she doesn't know if she wants to believe those words but she is going to she has to because right now she doesn't have a choice that is her last hope for now.
