Chapter Fourteen

Maya sighed for the hundredth time that day she felt tired and hungry James hasn't still let her out of her room he hasn't checked on her for two days now .

she has been speaking with Jason for sometime he doesn't talk much but just call to check up on her .Her thoughts were Interrupted with the shaking of keys which signalled that her door was being opened the door opened revealing a tired looking James Maya sat up from her bed on seeing him " I will be going on a business trip I don't know how long I will be gone but that doesn't mean I won't keep a watch on you so don't even try anything stupid with your mom" he was about leaving but Maya stopped him

" wait can I at least get something to eat"

James waved his hand dismissingly

"sure just don't annoy me" he left her room and Maya got up and went to the kitchen to cook something for herself

she went to her room and took the phone her mom gave her she thought of calling her mom but somehow she ended up calling Jason it rang twice before the call was picked " hi Jason" " hey is everything okay? do you need something?"

" um no I just decided to call you"

" okay? so is everything alright"

Maya thought of what to say she doesn't even know why she called him

" this is crazy" " what?" " nothing just wanted to know if you have an idea on how James got to know about the cameras" Jason was silent for a short time before he replied " Lucy told him about it" Maya was surprised " how did she know " " she is smart so she must have found a way" she didn't say anything she was lost in thought but it was interrupted by Jason " Maya have you heard from your mom" " no my isn't with me so I haven't called her I thought of calling her now why is something wrong" " she isn't answering her phone i tried calling her can you try calling her and let me know if she picks" " okay bye"

" hm" the phone got disconnected Maya grew worried over her mom she called her but she didn't answer she called so many times but she didn't pick this made Maya even more worried she decided to give it a try tommorow . The next day she called but there was still no answer

" Maya!" James called her from the living room " damnit" " am coming" she dropped the phone and went downstairs she met him standing near the staircase with his luggage " I am leaving don't do something stupid" " okay" she watch him leave this made her very happy to finally not have James in the house she went to one of the couch and sat with a long sigh

" this would have been much more great if I wasn't worried about mom" .

Days passed by and yet her mom was still not answering her phone it's been a week since james left for the business trip and Jason has been calling to check up on her they seem to be getting along but she could not get what Jason said to her when he called some days back

"Maya if anything happened some day you can always call me or come to my house alright" she felt like he was trying to warm about something .she was sitting in the living switching through different channels to find something worth watching when James came he looked unsettled and doesn't seemed to be in his right state of mind Maya stared at him for a while " James are you okay"

he didn't answer her he didn't even realise that she was there he stood in the living room spacing out " James" he seemed to regain his senses and looked at Maya " uh" " are you okay" he stared at her for a while " yeah am fine I just...never mind have you eaten" Maya was surprised to hear james ask her if she has eaten " no but I made dinner"

" oh okay let us have dinner together"

he went upstairs leaving Maya in a confuse state. Maya was currently having dinner with James something she had never thought would happen she would constantly secretly look at James who doesn't seemed to notice because he kept spacing out Maya found this strange something seems off about James " you aren't eating" James looked at her " I am not that hungry" " hm okay well me too so I am going to go to bed"

she stood up and was about leaving but James held her hand she was surprised and confused she turned to look at him

" Maya am sorry" she became even more confuse " what? you know what never mind you are acting strange so sure"

he let go of her she went to her room she sat down on her bed " what's wrong with him " The next day James was no where be found Maya didn't care as long as he doesn't bother her she ate her breakfast and and turn on the TV she put news channel and was contemplating on taking a short nap but the news she saw absolutely broke her it was a news about her mom being involved an accident according to the news she was driving on the highway when a truck hit her car causing her car to crash she was found dead two days ago by someone who was going for his morning exercise Maya stared at the screen for so long she didn't know when her eyes filled with tears and started falling continuously

" mo..m m..om" she fell to ground

" mom!" she didn't know what to do she felt hopeless she couldn't think about anything to do at that moment . James came in and saw her in that state he became confused and went towards but stopped when he looked at the TV and saw the news about Maya's mom his gaze turned towards Maya " maya"

Maya didn't answer "calm down okay"

Maya suddenly stopped crying and looked at James she stood up and went to him " James yesterday when you came back acting strange and when you apologized was it because of this"

" are you saying I killed your mom"

" I didn't say that but you just said that yourself James tell me the truth please"

she said the last statement like she was on the verge of breaking down again this made James angry " why are asking me like I know something about it Maya if you want to hear the truth then I will tell you the truth no it wasn't me okay!" he shouted at her but Maya was unmoved

" James it was you wasn't it why ? why!? why!? " she started crying again James was growing frustrated " look I may look bad but I am not a murderer okay I didn't do anything" " it was you" James didn't answer he simply stated at her then he became calm " you can't blame me for what you don't have proof of" after saying that he left the house Maya slumped down James statement just answered her question she couldn't believe that James would go that far to killing her mother she can't stay here she can't continue living with her mom's murderer she then remembered what Jason said to her she stood up and went upstairs.

Rachel was on a phone call when a maid came over and stood beside her " I will call you back" Rachel said to the other person at the end of the phone she turned her attention to the maid " yes is everything alright" " miss Rachel a lady is here to see Sir Jason" " who is it "

" her name is Maya Lucas" Rachel was surprised and told her to let her in the maid left Rachel sent for another maid to call Jason he came down immediately

" where is she" " I told them to let her In"

the door opened and Maya came in with the maid that had left to bring Maya after they came in the maid left leaving three of them in the big living room Maya hasn't said or moved since she arrived Jason went closer to her and called her softly " maya" tears flowed down from her eyes Jason hugged her " it's okay everything will be fine hold on okay" Maya still didn't say anything after sometime she was led to a bedroom where she would be staying by a maid . Jason was sitting in the living room Rachel came in and sat down Jason what are we going to do now Jason didn't say anything he then spoke with a calm but cold voice " we wait " " I hope you know what you are doing" " hm what we need to do now is to look after Maya that task is up to you" Rachel nodded

" don't worry I will take care of her"

"okay" he stood up and left the living room Rachel thought to herself " she will be fine so also you Jason both of you will be fine together you both have each other now".
