Noah ran his hand through his short light brown hair. He paced back and forth in the throne room, unable to sit down the entire time that his father had told me they had landed. They. His sister had gone to personally pick up the girl that his father had paid for. His father had BOUGHT Adelina’s cousin to be his bride.
Noah tugged at his hair and returned to his pacing as he thought about it. She was going to laugh at him. This girl was going to find him a laughing stock because her cousin had rejected him. He wasn’t really sure he could handle a she-wolf laughing at him, let alone one who might look just like his ex-mate. He thought about bailing, thought about going for a run on the beach and just… not coming back. But he also knew that wasn’t a solution. He couldn’t avoid the pain of his heartbreak.
He swallowed and took a deep breath, deciding to bite the bullet.
She will be wonderful. She is wonderful. I know it.
Noah winced at Hunter’s declaration. Hunter was his wolf.
Bullshit. We’ve never seen her nor met her. Noah retorted.
Mate.
The word stopped Noah in his tracks as he was walking, because Hunter started to chant it in their head. Mate. Mate. Mate. Mate. Mate.
Adelina? Noah’s eyes widened.
No. Mate. Hunter responded bitterly.
Noah turned and looked at the door to the throne room. It opened up and in walked his father, regal as ever. Right behind him was Kaloni. Noah smiled to his baby sister, but then his eyes snapped past her.
A short brunette girl walked in, her warm golden hued brown eyes sent shivers through his entire body and his heart felt like it was on fire, but in the most pleasurable way. He watched her as she walked behind his sister, she seemed uncomfortable, unsure. But she was beautiful. God, she was more beautiful than even Adelina, who’s image only flashed for a second in his mind before it was gobbled up by the sight in front of him.
She was thin, and he could tell she was a little malnourished. She smelled amazing. The tantalizing mixture of coconut and kiwi hit his nostrils and had Hunter doing back flips. How the f**k could he have ever thought Adelina was his mate? She never smelt or looked as beautiful as this girl before him.
Noah’s father cleared his throat, snapping Noah from his trance. He looked at him and saw the smirk on his fathers face. He shook his head slightly and glanced down at his feet, afraid he’d lose any thought process if he looked at her again.
“Noah, I’d like you to meet Drew Thorn, she is your fiancee.” He introduced and motioned the brunette forward.
Noah’s head snapped up and he stared at Drew. She was the furthest thing from Adelina. The woman who rejected him had pale green eyes and bleach blonde dyed hair. She looked nothing like Drew. And he was relieved. He let out a small breath he hadn’t realized he held.
He stepped forward and held out his hand towards her, bowing his head. “A pleasure to meet you, Miss Thorn.” He glanced up at her through his upper eyelids.
She hesitantly looked at his hand before looking at the king. When he nodded, Drew reached out and took hold of Noah’s hand.
And fire shot through his body, from the heat of where their skin touched, straight to his heart and then through the rest of his limbs, he felt like he was on fire. And he was fine with it. Absolutely fine with it, because it was pleasurable.
Hunter was howling fiercely in his head, shouting at the top of his lungs, MATE. MATE. MATE. MATE. MATE.

Noah followed Kolani and the king into the throne room. She shifted, pulling her arm tight against her side, still gripping her violin case.
Roxie started to yelp and yip in her head. Noah furrowed her brows.
Roxie, stop acting like a puppy. Noah chided.
No. Mate. MATE. MATE. Roxie, her wolf cheered.
Noah rolled her eyes. She finally lifted her head up to look at the man in the room. He looked borderline the spitting image of his father; the difference was his hair was light brown, his eyes were a beautiful green hazel, and he had scruff all over his jawline. As Noah watched him, inspected him meekly, she noticed he was doing the same.
The smell of hazelnuts and cherries hit her hard, causing her mouth to water suddenly. She wrinkled her nose a bit, not in disgust, but in an attempt to curve the small rumble in her stomach. Her cheeks turned red before she looked up at the prince, as he was introduced to her and she was introduced to him.
She stepped forward and took his hand. Immediately her body felt like it was struck by lightning, she felt like she was hit with an orgasm while standing there in front of them all; her cheeks burned a brighter red. Her grip on Noah’s hand loosened, but his grip on hers tightened.
Drew gasped softly, not meaning for it to be audible, but by the small smirk starting to spread on Noah’s face, she knew at least he heard. She let out a pathetic sort of whimper at that point.
She turned her head to look at the King. “It’s been a long flight. Can I please go to my room?” She squeaked out.
The King nodded. “Of course.” He smiled brightly.
“I’ll-” Kolani started to speak when Noah cut her off, causing Drew to have a near fatal heart attack.
“No, I’ll show my fiancee to her room.” He had the same melt-worthy accent, the difference was the Prince’s accent might’ve actually caused Drew to ovulate, unlike the King’s.
She sunk her teeth into her lower lip hard, unable to stop it. She nodded a bit meekly, and then followed Noah out of the throne room.
He hadn’t let go of her hand the entire time. She stared down at their grasp before reality came crashing back on her.
That means I’m his second chance.
Drew snatched her hand away immediately. She glowered at him, before she turned to start back towards the throne room, but was stopped when that searing, wonderful heat caught her arm and spun her around.
Without thinking, Drew raised her hand and slapped Noah across the face. She yanked her arm from his grasp and glowered at him. “Let’s be clear about something.” She held up a finger. “I’m here because I don’t want to be with my old pack. I’m here because your father BOUGHT me. I’m not here because I want to be here. And I sure as hell don’t want to be your SECOND CHANCE.” She snapped.
Noah’s eyes widened, he recoiled his hand and his mouth kept opening and closing, like he was trying to come up with something to say back to her.
Drew took this time to bring her hand up and point an accusatory finger at him. “Don’t you think I feel pathetic enough as it is? My uncle and father SOLD me to you, so that Adelina wouldn’t be charged with some sort of crime, then I come all the way here to find out I’m your second chance mate. SECOND CHANCE!” She threw her hands up. “THAT MEANS I WAS NEVER SUPPOSED TO BE HAPPY OR HAVE A MATE IF ADELINA DIDN’T ABANDON YOU!” She was near screaming, and her tears were pouring down. “I REFUSE TO BE A SECOND. I’VE BEEN IN LAST PLACE ALL MY LIFE, AND TO KNOW I’M IN LAST PLACE EVEN WITH MY MATE IS… IS -”
Drew lost it. All the tears she’d been holding back over the years had started to flood out, pouring down her cheeks. She sobbed loudly and collapsed to the floor, only not letting go of her violin case. She buried her face in her hands and felt pathetic, but also felt like this was… cathartic for her.
She kept sobbing, violent, powerful cries leaving her mouth as she let go of all the pain she’d been holding in all her life.
And then she felt the heat envelope her again. She knew exactly what happened, but she didn’t dare to look up, afraid her bloodshot eyes and snotty nose would cause him to recoil.
Noah was holding her, comforting her. And her body was shaking in his grasp. He didn’t seem to care though. She felt him shift and sit on the floor, then scoop her right up into his lap and hold her tightly. Drew’s sobs grew a little quieter, though she knew if she started to analyze that she was a second chance again - she’d lose it.
“You’re not second.” His voice caught her off guard.
Drew raised her head to look up at Noah, she stared at him, eyebrows pinched together in confusion.
“You’re my mate. Second chances just imply that the one who the goddess gave us first was meant to break our hearts.” He whispered. “You were always my destiny, and I was always yours.” His voice was barely audible when he finished speaking.
This surprised Drew. She reached up and swiped her tears from her face. “I don’t believe in that.” She said quietly. “Destiny. Or the goddess.” She pushed him away and stood up, then reached down and picked up her violin case. “Please just take me to my room. I want to be alone.” She whispered.
