-Lucas's POV-
"'Sup, guys. Sorry about the hold up. My mom wouldn't let me take her car." Miles said, coming up to Adam and I.
"It's cool." I told Miles.
Adam nodded.
"So, what crucial thing happened yesterday that you ditched us at lunch, Lucas?" Miles asked.
I look down, not wanting the guys to see my face.
"I hung out with Lee." I mumbled.
I was quite surprised that the guys heard, since even to me is sounded inaudible.
"You are so whipped. Just man up and tell her you like her." Adam blurted out. I looked up looking around to see if there was anyone around from our school.
If someone heard, they might tell Lee. And if Lee finds out, I'm a dead man.
"Are you kidding me? That'll completely destroy our friendship. It's obvious she only sees me as a friend." I told them both.
I said it in such a tone, I felt like I was aiming it towards me. Maybe I was.
"Well, you don't know that." Miles wiggled his eyebrows at me.
I looked at him with a questioning countenance. Was he being serious?
Lee and I have been friends ever since we were tiny. The day I met her, I knew I wanted to protect her. I knew I wanted her by my side.
I knew it was love at first sight, even if I was five.
-Flashback-
I felt upset when I heard the door close. I really enjoyed playing with Riley. She was fun and really pretty.
I picked up the red car Riley played with. I smiled looking at it. My very first friend played with that. It was my brand new favorite toy. In the corner of my eye, I saw something glistening. I looked at it and studied it closer. It was a big, blue bow with white sequins. It was Riley's bow.
I picked it up and pecked it. I found an old shoebox under my bed, and put in the red car as well as the bow in it. In my neatest handwriting, I wrote:
Riley
In red crayon near the middle using big, bold letters. I used my stencil for words just to make the box look neat.
I smiled, gently tucking the box under my bed, for safe keeping.
-End Of Flashback-
I smiled at the memories.
I still have that box, only it's filled up to the brim with way more things - the first birthday card I received from Riley as well as pictures of us from when we went to the arcade.
I'm not, however, that creepy person that keeps locks of hair or nail clippings.
Their just crucial memories.
"Hello? Earth to Lucas." Miles snapped me back to reality by waving his hand near my face.
"What?" I asked.
"You completely zoned out, man. We thought you turned zombie on us." Adam told me.
I chuckled but Adam and Miles just looked at me as if I was some madman.
"Like, seriously, if you're going to keep zoning out on us because you're thinking about Riley, you're going to have to confess to her." Miles told me, with the most serious expression he wore all year.
Adam and Miles were the only ones who knew I was in love with Lee. My mom suspected something as well, but I never actually confirmed it.
Knowing my mom she would do everything in her power to get me to ask Lee out. And I'm not about to put up with that.
'...confess to her.'
My mind just processed what Miles told me. Confess? And have an awkward friendship because I love her beyond what she loves me? No thanks.
"Miles, I've already told you, I'm not going to. Lee means the world to me and if I tell her how I feel, everything will be weird between us, since I know she doesn't feel the same way." I explained to him.
I felt like a broken record every time we talked about Lee. I kept telling them I can't tell her how I feel or I'll jeopardize everything. But they keep bugging me about it.
Telling them I loved - love - Lee was a big mistake.
"Well, you'll stay as a friend unless you act on it." Adam informed me.
I shook my head. "Can we just drop the subject?"
"Alright, no need to get mad. But seriously, think about it. The back-to-school dance is coming up. Maybe ask her to it."
And I did think about it.
