The Alpha Witch Prophecy

Chapter 1 Ame’s POV 10 years old “Amethyst!” My mom is calling for me because I have to visit with her mother. Mom has never talked about Grandma Theresa before. I was quite shocked that I had another grandma. We have always lived with dad’s pack, so I assumed that my mom’s family was also members within the pack. She says the pack is her family, by choice, and grandmother is her family by heritage. “Amethyst! Come here, please!” My mom yells again. I turn and look at my friends, Thomas and Chrissy. They give me a look of shared sympathy as I make my way back to the cabin. My mom and grandmother are silent. My mom looks worried, and my grandmother looks like she’s fake happy. It was uncomfortable for me to sit while they talked. They weren’t even really talking, they were yelling. That’s when I slipped outside to go see my friends at the river that is down a small hill from the cabin I live in. They have been my best friends for as long as I can remember. Thomas is the son of our Alpha, Paul. He tells me that he thinks we are mates. I don’t really understand what a mate is, but I’ve heard it’s someone that will always love you and will protect you. This is the way it works with wolves. When you turn 18 you are able to feel the mate bond and then you mark each other and have children and work for the pack. Thomas will one day be Alpha, and if he is right about me being his mate, I will be his Luna. It’s like what you read in a book. Chrissy is the daughter of our Gamma, Ray. She has two older brothers. One will be the future Gamma and the other will be a warrior. She thinks she wants to be a doctor in the pack hospital when she grows up. That is secretly what I want to do, but I don’t think I can if I’m the Luna. It would be fun, though, making sure that the other wolves get better if they are seriously hurt or helping with the new pups that are born in the pack. “Ah, Amethyst, where did you run off to?” I slipped behind my mom, because grandma is a bit scary. “Come here and let grandmummy get a good look at you.” She is smiling at me, but I don’t think she means it in a happy way. I step out and she starts to prod me with her stick. It doesn’t hurt, but it doesn’t feel nice either. “Hmmm, she is rather chubby for her age, don’t you think Rayne?” My grandmother directs this to my mom. “She is fine for her age, mother. She is also part wolf, so she will burn off any extra weight once her training starts in 6 years.” I can tell my mom isn’t happy with seeing my grandmother. She isn’t smiling like she normally does and she looks like she might cry. “You just love to rub that in, don’t you Rayne? My poor grandchild had the chance to be one of the most powerful of our coven and you had to go and make her a mix breed.” My grandmother started dabbing at her eyes, but I didn’t see any tears coming out of them. I have no idea what my grandmother is talking about, being the most powerful and mix breeds. I don’t even know what a coven is, aside from what we’ve learned in school about witches. I'm not a witch and my mom isn't a witch. I guess this is why my mom never talked about Grandma Theresa. She’s obviously crazy. “Come Amethyst, I want you to play a game with grandmummy.” I turn and look at my mom and she gives me a smile and slightly nudges me toward my grandmother. “Now Amethyst, let’s try to concentrate on this ring here on the tree stump, okay? I want you to place your palm out and close your eyes and try to make the ring appear in the palm of your hand.” “But, that can’t happen. Things don’t just appear in other places, do they?” I look toward my mother again and she looks a little worried. Grandma starts to frown and looks if she's about to yell. “Rayne, haven’t you taught her anything? Does she not know about her roots? Or have you just filled her head with talk about wolves and mates?” My mom and grandmother start to yell again and I want to run back to the river again and play with Thomas and Chrissy. I start to turn away when grandma grabs me by the arm. “Amethyst, do not leave again. I need you to concentrate and the ring and transfer it to your palm!” My grandmother is only a few inches from my face and I can feel some of her spit land on my face. I look down at the tree stump and stare at the ring. I try to imagine it in my palm. I lift my palm up and I am shaking. I almost want to cry because I know it is impossible to do as she asked. “Stop shaking, girl! Just do as I am telling you!” Grandmother yells at me and the tears start to come. My mom hugs me and try to calm me down. She wipes away my tears and kisses me on the forehead. “It’s okay Ame. Just try to imagine that the ring is in your palm. If it doesn’t actually get there, that’s okay, but at least try to imagine. Here, I’ll do it with you.” I stifle my tears and try to calm down. I mimic my mother and place my hand out with my palm up and close my eyes and try to imagine the ring is in my hand. I am not sure what else I need to do, but I hope that the ring is in my hand so that grandmother doesn’t yell at me again. I open my eyes and I see my palm, just as it always has been. There is no ring. I look at my mom and she smiles at me. “Good try Ame. You did a great job”, my mom says to me while hugging me again. “Don’t fill the little mutt’s head with such ideas. It would have been a good job if she had transferred the ring properly. Just when I thought I couldn’t be disappointed any more with you Rayne, you have found yet another way to shame the family. I guess your sister will be the one taking over as head of the coven. At least she will marry within her kind. You are no longer part of the family.” I see my mom’s eyes start to fill with tears and at then I see my dad step outside our cabin. He rushes over to my mom and pulls me and her behind him. “Theresa, leave now. You are no longer welcome in our home or at Crystal Star. You must leave immediately. If you don’t, I will call the warriors to make sure you regret coming for this visit.” My dad is fighting back his wolf. I can tell because his eyes switched from hazel to yellow and back again. My father doesn’t usually get mad, so seeing him this upset makes me even more scared. My dad is the Beta of the pack and his main responsibility is to make sure the warriors are trained well for battle. Since he does this, he also has to be very well trained. I know he could rip her to shreds. I may not like my grandmother, but I do not want to see my dad or the warriors kill her. I turn my head into my mom’s side so that I don’t have to witness anything brutal. “Oh, calm down Bane. I am not planning on staying. Let me just grab my things from inside of the house and I will be on my way. I have no desire for any further exchange with your family. They certainly are no longer part of mine.” I turn my head toward my grandmother as she waves her stick and taps it against her hand. Her bag appears there right before us. My eyes grow big and my jaw drops. “See, child, that’s how it’s done!” Grandmother looks at me and then she draws a circle in the air and steps through it and she is gone. I look at my mom and dad in amazement, but also with some fear. “Woah, what just happened?” My parents look at each other and my mom sighs. “There’s some things we need to talk about in regards to your mom and her family” my dad says as he looks from my mom to me. He grabs my hand and leads me inside and mom follows us into the cabin.
