Ame's POV
“There is some things that we never told you about my family, Ame.” Mom starts to tell me as we sit down after grandma left.
“I am a witch. I belong to a coven called The Three Sisters. The coven is one of the oldest covens around. It is believed to be almost as old as the royal coven. I assume you have talked about some of this in school, yes?” My mom asks me.
“Yes, we learned about witches and covens in school, but not about the royal coven.” I remembered in school we talked about the different types of life forms there are. Humans, werewolves, witches, vampires, fairy folk, lycans, and many others. In school we have mostly talked about wolves and lycans, since they are so closely related. It has only been this year that we have started to learn about the others. I’ve always known they were there, but I never knew much more than I had read in books.
“The royal coven has a King Warlock and a Queen Witch. They are actually distant relatives of mine. The royal coven, though, has traces back to the beginning of recorded history. Of course, they weren’t royalty then, but because of how old their blood line is, they are now considered royalty and have been for a few centuries now.” Mom pauses and looks at me as I try and absorb everything in.
“Why have I never met grandma before?” This is the only question I can think to ask because I still cannot understand why I didn’t know my mom wasn’t a wolf.
“Ame,” my farther starts. “Your mom and I met at one of the Moon Goddess Gatherings. I could tell she was my mate and when she realized it too, your grandma was not very happy. When I brought your mom here to live with the pack it caused your grandma to stop all contact with your mom.”
Flashback
Rayne’s POV
“Oh my Goddess, Rayne! Look at all the handsome men!!!” Violet shrieked in my ear as we approached the gates of the Mood Goddess Gathering. This year it is being held at the Crystal Star pack. It’s my first one that I have attended, since my mother is very much against witches associating casually with other life forms. However, I am 18 and can make my own decisions. Trenton was going to come with me, but he had some important business to take care of at home. I brought my best friend Violet with me instead.
“You probably don’t even care, do you Rayne? You have King Trenton practically eating out of your hand. I’m surprised he didn’t send an escort with you, actually.”
“Trent and I trust each other. Plus, it’s not like we are engaged yet, so no need for an escort. In fact, people really do not know that he and I are seeing each other.” Trent and I met in school. He was a senior and I was a freshman. I was helping him study in a mutual class we shared. We didn’t really start to date until I was a senior and had graduated. That was about 6 months ago. Things have been difficult lately. Trent has been more focused on his transition to King Warlock coming up in a few months. My mother is already trying to plan our wedding. I keep telling her that it’s too soon. He and I have not really talked about it, but his parents have. They have mentioned that Trent will be at his most powerful state once he takes a mate. They feel that I have the makings of a wonderful, and powerful, Queen Witch. Since our families blood lines go back to the same time, and really they are of distant relation to us, it would be a smart combination. I just don’t know that Trent or I are really ready for all of that.
“Rayne?” Violet snaps me out of my thoughts. “You doing okay? I’ve just been talking and you haven’t responded to me.”
“Sorry, it’s just all this stuff with Trent and my mom wanting us to get married, his parents wanting us to get married. I just want to have some fun before I have to settle down.” Violet takes all of this in and nods slowly.
“Well, tonight will be nothing but fun. As far as anyone else knows, you are single and here to mingle!” Violet grabs my hand as we rush up to enter the gathering.
“Violet, that’s not really what I meant.” Violet presses a finger to my lips to hush me.
“Look, what better way to see if Trent is the one than to test it by talking to these super hot wolves! I mean look at them all!” I hate to admit it, but she’s right about that. The wolves of Crystal Star are definitely wonderfully sculpted. That’s when I see one in particular that is pretty much undressing me with his eyes. He’s incredibly attractive, but I’m not a piece of meat either. We make direct eye contact and I roll my eyes at him and then turn toward Violet.
“Okay, but I’m not going to be flirting with anyone. I don’t really want to betray Trent’s trust.”
“Yes, but how will you know he’s the one unless you can’t stop thinking about him when you’re being hit on by another guy?” Well, Violet does make some sense.
“Fine,” I give in to Violet who immediately starts jumping up and down.
“Let’s go find some.” Violet grabs me by the hand again and starts to pull me in the direction of the bonfire. I look back to where the wolf had been staring at me and he is gone. I roll my eyes at this. Men are so fickle. He probably found a she-wolf that was ready to undress him. The thought pangs me quickly. The thought of another she-wolf undressing him. I quickly shake the idea from my head and go where Violet leads me.
