Second chance?

Chapter 3: Iris’s PoV

BEFORE MEETING THE ALPHA KING

“Who are you?” I asked her

She turned her neck around so quick i thought it was going to fall off.

“woahhhh there, calm down. i’m harmless i promise. i just saw the bag and was curious who owns it and how it got here so please just drop the stick” She said with her hand in the air.

I slowly put the stick down but was still on guard because i don’t trust her one bit. By her smell, it’s obvious that she’s a rogue and papa told me rogues were vicious.

“There you go, i’m not bad. why are you here anyways? i have never seen you around here before” she asked curiously.

“I just got rejected by my mate, the alpha of my former pack, banished from my pack, betrayed by my bestfriend.”

As soon as i finished saying that, i started crying again remembering what happened to me. The girl quickly rushed to my side to try and comfort me.

“it’s okay, everything will be okay. The bastard doesn’t deserve you. I mean look at you; you’re pretty, have long beautiful hair, nice voice. Would have said more but i don’t really know you well” she said looking sympathetic

I don’t even know why what she said made me laugh but it did.

“Thank you, i really appreciate it. By the way, my name is Iris steel. What’s yours?” I asked

“oh nice to meet you Iris. My name’s Ashina, Ashina griffin” she says with her hand outstretched for me to shake.

My tummy started grumbling and i was both shocked and shy by how loud it was. Ashina started laughing which made my cheeks go red.

“Awwwn, looks like someone is hungry. common let’s go for a little hunt to feel to little tummy” she said it as if she’s speaking to a child before laughing again

“i am not a baby. Don’t talk to me like i’m one” i huffed and folded my hands.

“We’ll you are acting like one right now” she sisd chuckling.

“Let’s just go and hunt please. Before i’ll die of starvation” i said in a whining tone

She laughed and led us to a field where i saw a deer. we went behind some trees and changed into our wolves ready for a feast.

She went to the left while i went to the right. After getting closer to the deer, she leapt out but the deer was on high alert and ran in the opposite direction, my direction. When it got closer to me, i jumped on its back biting into its neck in the process. The more it was shaking, the more i bit down. It started getting weak and fell on the floor.

Me and ashina dragged it over to the trees and left it there to change back. We came out and high-fived eachother

“That was so awesome . The way you jumped on his back and hung on like your life depended on it. where did you learn that from?” she asked excitedly

“Well i shifted at the early age of 12, so my dad wanted me to be strong so he always took me out to hunt and taught me new tricks everyday” i said starting to feel sad

“It’s okay. You have me now and i know it might not be the same but i promise to be by your side and protect you at all cost. And yes, i know we just met but i don’t really have anyone and you remind me of my little sister and i’m really happy that you are here. Not that i’m happy abt ur rejection, omg why did i….”She was rambling on and on until i just burst out laughing

“I understand Ashina, no need to stress. i’m happy i met you too” I said with a smile on my face and hugged her tight

But our happy mood was cut short when five wolves came out of the woods immediately and started growling at us. we took that as our cue to shift to be able to protect ourselves better.

As soon as we shifted, one of the wolves jumped Ashina and they started clawing at eachother. She got his left eye and while he was howling in pain, she sunk her teeth into his neck cutting off his airway killing him instantly.

Next thing i heard was a sad and painful howl from one of the wolves who ran to the dead wolf side and i realized what is happening, the wolf that is dead is her mate.

The other three wolves got very angry and two jumped me while the other went for ashina. We fought restlessly and something caught my eye.

The tattoo on their arm looks so familiar and that’s when i realized it’s the same tattoo i saw on the wolves that killed my parents.

While i was distracted, one wolf managed to bite down on my shoulder while the other bit my leg making me howl in pain falling on the floor and shifting back.

Blood gushing out of my leg and shoulder. I cry out in pain as i see one of the wolves run away and ashina coming towards me.

“Omg, we need to get you help Asap. This is all my fault, i just promised to protect you” She said crying

“It’s not your fault okay, let’s just find where to get cleaned up” I said feeling very weak

“There’s a pack nearby, maybe we can ask for help there. Come on, let’s try and get you there”She said lifting me up carefully and as she did that, i saw the same symbol on the wolves that just attacked us on her hand. ‘Why would she have the same symbol? That means she’s working for the enemy. But if she is, why did she help me? This is so confusing’ I kept wondering as we kept moving.

On getting to the pack, she started shouting and crying and begging for people to help us. People started gathering us and asking us what happened.

All of a sudden, they started giving way for someone to pass and that’s when i realized it was Conri black, The alpha king and ruler of all the packs put together.

immediately our eyes met he said one word that is about to change my world

“Mate” and then i blacked out.
