Chapter Uno: Where do we even start?
Chris and Shanann Watts had a normal life, a normal family, and all the issues and mountains there are to climb that make a marriage. No matter how it seemed online. Life is full of obstacles. Nobody is perfect, we're human we all make mistakes especially when there's children and/or illnesses taking over most of the cycles we call our lives.
We're learning as we grow and roam this life. We aren't born knowledgeable, we learn how to be. We all wanna be perfect in our peers eyes. Showing off is something every one does knowing or unknowingly. For some reason as we grow and experience the world, introvert or not, we seek approval. Being liked is something we all desire.
Chris was/is an introvert. He preferred solitude, and kept his feelings to himself. He didn't mind that Shanann took control it was just easier that way. In their videos he seemed shy and distant and would only be in the videos enough so he's seen. So that to the public all seemed perfect.
He'd participate enough to get Shanann's approval but the less communication the better. Introverts are mostly quiet people.
Shanann was quite the opposite she was a social media-aholic. She was a literal thriver, not just an employee for the stay healthy company named Thrive. Also known as Le-Vel. She was always striving to let people know what was on her mind, and what was going on in her life. Or focusing on advancing on her work, which was very media based. She was outstandingly successful at her job.
Her family and her work meant everything to her. She deserved better than she received towards the end of her life. She definitely deserved an explanation, and the right to leave and separate from a husband who no longer held interest in working through their issues. She had already survived so much. Why did Chris feel he had a right to move on and not Shanann. I'm sure given the chance she'd still try and work through they're issues only because she's not the quiting type.
Eventually though I'm sure she'd let it be and let go. It's hard to just throw away years of marriage. Not everyone moves on so quickly. They were the complete opposite when it came to that though. She wanted to fight for what she wanted and he was ready to move to the next woman who revolved around him.She was independent, and always the leader.
She went through so much trauma she was tired of being helpless, Shanann picked herself up everytime she fell. And Nikki, well she looked to Chris for approval. Chris had to talk Nikki through her anxiety. She had to be talked up or down, almost as if she wasn't sure of herself. She was the damsel in distress, and he was the knight in shining armor ready to whisk her away. And that intrigued him, for once he was in control, he had the power. He couldn't get off the horse now, he was too high strung. Being the go with the flow follower wasn't in the cards anymore after he fell in love with Nikki.
Nikki had him over the moon for her, he would've done anything just to be with her including annihilating his whole family. Had he had more time to clean his mess, I'm sure he would have made it look like Shanann left with the girls. He might have gotten away with it had it not been for Shanann's friend Nichole Atkinson. I don't think he had planned for her to be so persistent that morning. He was still coming down from the high of it all. No one truly knows what happened that night except Chris. He might confess one day but there's no way anyone would believe him because he started off deceitful.
Shanann tried to mold Chris into being the perfect husband. That's understanding, she only wanted him to be the best he could be. At some point in time Chris got tired of going with the flow. Maybe the routine they were in just got boring, or he just got side tracked because someone was whispering sweet nothings in his ear telling him all the things he wanted to hear.
He played both these women. He had Shanann thinking everything was okay til it wasn't. And he had Nikki believing that his marriage was over, and he only had 2 kids. Chris barely had a successful marriage and here he was trying to start a new relationship. I'm sure eventually he'd wanna marry Nikki as well. He knew/knows nothing about love. It was just a lustful obsession he had.
A relationship is about being there for each other and knowing each others weaknesses and strengths. Never wanting to hurt the person that you love. And yet, he was hurting Shanann the person he vowed to love forever to have and to hold in sickness and in health, because he wanted Nikki. Eventually he'd just end up hurting Nikki as well.
Maybe he just wasn't relationship material.
Shanann and the girls deserved so much more. I hope they're resting well. Had he never met Nikki would all this had happened? Had he just went with the girls when they first left to visit family would they have been happily married today? Or would've their death just been prolonged? Had they paid attention to each others feelings could it have worked out and brought/made their relationship closer and stronger. I think there was so much going on that they lost control and went with the flow of everything after a while, maybe they thought everything would fix itself.
When it came to their children they were the good parents. That's all Shanann ever wanted to be was a mom, It was always in her plans for this life. And Chris loved being a dad, his kids were his whole world. How do you just throw all that away? Working things out and talking about feelings was far from the agenda. It should of been the first priority. Especially if either one felt like there was a void or an issue. Chris didn't really have a voice. He did but was often never heard. He didnt know how to put his foot down.
Maybe that's what Shanann wanted just a little bit of man handling, not alot, just enough. She made it clear to her friends that she wanted him to yell and lose control every now and then but he just never did. And that wasn't a good thing, the more you bottle things up the worse it gets. If you have a brown paper bag and you stuff as much as you can in it, eventually the bag rips it can only hold so much. Chris is the paper bag and the stuffing is his emotions and thoughts piling up it's just too much.
