Chapter 492019—mid August
Charles led them down the hall to a point just past the door to their room. He opened a door, revealing a set of stairs leading up. There was a motorized chair lift running up one side of the unusually wide steps.
“We installed the lift for Gran’s benefit,” Charles said, and proceeded up the stairs.
When he reached the top of the stairs, Eric found himself in a long attic that apparently ran the length of the house. At its peak, the ceiling was well above head height, and it tapered down to meet walls roughly three feet above floor level. Dormers containing window seats were placed at intervals along the walls.
“This is a huge space,” Carlton said.
