My plan was to tell Denton about what I’d been doing behind his back. That didn’t happen though. Denton had problems of his own. He’d knocked up the secretary. It’s been three weeks and he’s yet to show his face. I’ve been running the law firm by myself. Of course, Lilly comes for lunch.
“Lilly,” I groan, “I need you to stop.”
“You don’t like it,” she says, pulling away from my neck.
“I do like it, but your father could walk in at any second.”
This would look so bad if Denton walked in right now. He would kill me. I know he keeps a gun in his desk and wouldn’t hesitate to use it on me. So many lies were being told right to his face. It would be deceit. The ultimate betrayal. And that’s why I needed to talk to him before that punk Jace did.
“Chris, guess what?”
