“Well, my palate is salivating to hear more about you.” Corey says, jabbing his older brother in the rib cage. “ Would you ladies mind hanging out a little more with me since we’re done eating dinner?” He asked with a sincere smile.
“That sounds great!” Tia replied.
“Great. My friend Domenic just texted me he was able to finally break free from his family and is hanging in the rec room. He, was probably in your class, Lexi. He’s wolf and fae”, Corey says as we walk to clean and put our plates in the container to go for washing.
On the way to the recreation room, Corey asked a lot of questions to us all, especially me, it seems. Turns out, once he graduates high school, he has plans to become a member of the council and wants to go into interspecies relations.
Being a hybrid isn’t as rare as it used to be way back when. There are many different types and many different abilities, but most will have one species that’s the most dominant.
For me, growing up with both parents that are hybrids and possessing certain traits from both species, I was taught a little from all three species. My dad has taught me some witchcraft and, although I may not be as powerful in witchcraft as many hybrids, I am still able to successfully do many spells and potions. Like my mother, I don’t need blood to survive like my grandfather, but oddly enough, we’ve inherited the speed. Then there are other traits like slight empath abilities and siphoning abilities. That seems to be more of a defense mechanism. I’m not sure how strong I am at that though, because it’s dangerous to test and a struggle to control.
Then there’s the other part of me.
“Hey bestie! You mean the best part of you, right?” Sierra asks
“Of course, beautiful.” I laughed internally.
Yes, the best part. My wolf, who I have learned, had many talents as well. She’s such a medium-sized fluffy wolf. Her coat is probably best described as brindle with white on her belly and paws and a brown base with highlights of black and white on the top, and golden with speckles of red eyes. She also has inherited the ability to siphon but can also mask herself.
We finally made it to the rec room and before we could get in there we were greeted by a very handsome 6 foot tall, green-eyed, nicely tanned guy with jet black hair. No wait black with blue highlights, no green highlights. Oh, I guess it is now yellow. Only a fae can change their hair color like that. This must be Corey’s friend.
“Corey! Nice of you to bring the ladies. Hello ladies, especially you, beautiful. What is your name?” He said, in a play boy manner grinning at Janet.
She flirtatiously smiles back and says, “Well, hello to you too. My name is Janet and going off of your hair I’m assuming you’re Domenic.”
“Your assumption is correct. The hair change is the fae part of me. I assume my friend Corey has told you who I am and hope he has only good things to say about me.” Domenic says with a grin as he puts Corey in a headlock.
“Don’t think too much about it, pal. I just told them we were meeting you.” Corey says, playfully jabbing Domenic in the ribs and shaking loose. “I have had the pleasure of hanging with these beautiful ladies while everyone left me by myself today. As you just met, that's Janet. These are Tia and Lexi.”
“Nice to meet you ladies. I’m sorry my parents wouldn't let me leave them but I envy you, man. Would you mind if I stole this beauty here to come play a game of cards with me at that table there? I was waiting for Corey to get here to be my partner but she’s much better to look at.” Domenic says, winking at Janet, then turns to us to ask permission.
“Ouch” Corey says with a mock hurt expression on his face and hands over his chest.
“How do you know I know how to play cards?” Janet asked, looking up at Domenic with a mischievous smile.
“I wouldn’t mind losing if it means spending time with you,” Domenic says in a flirtatious manner.
“Well, I guess it will be a bonus for you since I’m pretty good at most card games. I just hope you know what you’re doing, because I get pretty competitive and don’t like losing.” Janet says with a challenging look in her eyes.
“Guess we’ll see you two later then.” I said as they began walking towards the table where someone was shuffling cards.
“Okay ladies. Do you want to find a game for three? I see there are some board games and more cards over there. We can also hang out in the lounge area where it looks like they’re watching some movie. I see some recliners over there.” Corey asks.
I looked around the room and at the area where Corey was pointing. They look like they are watching ‘Happy Gilmore.’ That movie is absolutely hilarious. There’s also pool tables, darts, it looks like an area where video games are set up and the area where Janet and Domenic went is where there are tables. I’m still deciding when we hear...
“Why don’t we play teams of two on the pool table?”
Looking up and here comes Rashawn. Ugh. What is he following us? How are we going to play teams of two when he comes with a whole entourage of people? Speaking of it, I don’t see his jerk-faced beta or harem of women.
“That’s if it's okay if I hang out with you all. Corey, your brother is umm.. Taking care of some things. So it’s just me.” Alpha Rashawn says, noticing our look of confusion.
“Well ugh, okay I guess. I mean is pool okay with you ladies?” Corey turned to ask us.
“Sure.” Tia then looked at Corey to ask if he would be on her team. Oh, she has a big crush on this guy. I can feel the lust leaking off of her. I can’t wait until later to ask her about that.
“Great that will put Lexi and I on the same team. Come, I’ll help you get a good pool stick.” Alpha Rashawn says, addressing me.
Although I don’t need help picking out a stick, I smile and walk over towards the rack where they are. The red one looks like a good stick. I just needed to pick it up to see the weight.
“Oh, here this red stick looks like a good stick and feels light enough. I think I like the black one for myself” Alpha Rashawn says, grabbing the stick I was already eyeing and handing it to me.
“Thanks. I was actually going to grab that one. You know, you still don’t have to babysit us.” I turned to look at him and continue, “I know you have many ‘options’ of entertainment.” I said using air quotes.
I can see the shock on his face and can feel his confusion as I began to walk away but am stopped by a tug on my arm and him saying, “ You’re right. I do have many options for entertainment.” He steps towards me and, in a lower tone, looking into my eyes, he continues, “but I don’t find any other as appealing as what's in front of me.”
I’m at a loss for words. He's being sincere. That was really sweet I guess. I’ve never been this close to him, he smells very nice too. Oh goddess. That smile. Nope, I still don’t trust him. I nod and he lets go of my arm so we can start to walk to the open table that Corey and Tia are walking to in deep conversation.
“Plus, I need to apologize.” he, and I stopped and turned back to look at him again, looking for him to go on. “ Did you know that although our moms knew each other from school they didn’t become close until they were old enough to come here? They learned they had a similar background. And that’s how they became friends.”
“No. I didn’t know that. Wait, so that would mean that your mom is a hybrid too.” I stated in shock.
“Yes she is.” He replied with a charming smile.
“So does your beta think she’s a mut too?” I sarcastically asked. I wasn’t intending to let him know those remarks affected me.
He puts his head down and I can feel the regret before replying. “ He didn’t know. That’s why I want to apologize. He shouldn’t have said that to or about you. I’m not sure what’s wrong with him. I don’t support those ancient judgemental ways of thinking.”
“I can understand that. I guess I can accept your apology although it wasn’t you that actually said those things” I say.
“I know but I didn’t do anything to stop it and I don’t want him to continue like that. I left him with Stacey and her friends. They were doing too much and came off rude as well. I promise I will talk to them all and let them know it’s unacceptable to talk to anyone like that, regardless of his rank. I know how much your mom means to mine and I hope we can be friends also.” He said with pleading eyes.
“Baby steps. I don’t allow anyone into my friendship circle.” I say it in a joking manner but really meaning those words even though I still feel he’s being sincere. I really don’t know if he’s friendship worthy but willing to give him a chance. I shook his outstretched hand and we walked over to get the pool game that was being set up.
“Ray. I hope it’s okay for the ladies to be first. I have a coin to see which team will have the first crack,” Corey says as we walk over.
“I wouldn’t have it any other way, Corey. Go ahead and flip. Let's go for heads, Lexi” Rashwan says, nudging me as Corey flips the coin.
It lands on tails.
