You said what?!
I shrieked inside my head.
'You heard me. Take this jewelry out of here' Aleka said.
Are you mad?!!
Let me come again.
Are you insane?!! How on earth am I supposed to steal a national treasure?!!
I was dumbfounded.
'I thought you said you wanted to know the truth about your family'
Yes, I said so but that doesn't mean I will steal!
'Andronika, you're not technically stealing, you're just taking it'
Taking what doesn't belongs to me? That IS stealing!!
'Andronika, the more time you deliberate on it, the more time you waste here. Just get the thing out of here!' She snapped.
But how am I supposed to take it out when it's sealed close and might I mention, there are thousands of witnesses here?!
"Excuse me, is there a problem here?"
I whirled around and I saw a man in a security uniform staring down at me.
Oh, God.
"Uh..." I laughed nervously.
"Is everything alright, miss?" He asked.
"Um...Yeah, I'm just mesmerized by the beautiful jewelry" I said and smiled sheepishly.
"I hope you see the sign that says touching is not allowed" he reminded.
"O-of course, hands off" I raised my hands and laughed.
He stared at me for some seconds before he turned to leave.
Phew! That was a close call.
'Yes and now is the perfect to take it out. No one is beside you',
And the cameras?
I asked because I saw the CCTV cameras when I came in.
'There is a camera behind you but if you stand behind that pillar, it won't be able to see you' she said.
But why do you want me to steal this jewelry? How does it connects to what Aunt Sentiana is hiding from me?!
I was utterly confused.
'I will tell you everything. Just get the jewelry first' she ordered.
I could get into serious trouble for this.
'Don't worry, you won't get caught' she assured.
Fingers crossed.
Okay,
What do I need to do?
I asked.
'Go behind the pillar' she said and I moved down a little and my back instantly hit the pillar.
'Swipe your hand beneath the box and under the stand' she ordered.
I reached forward and my hands felt the cold glass on my palms. I raised the red cloth that was used to cover the stand.
My eyes nervously looked around the room as my heart skipped a beat.
If I get caught, I will be dead.
I will be taken to jail, my aunt would be disappointed with me and everyone in school will call me names.
The girl who tried to steal from the Museum.
Why is she asking me to do this?!
I extended my hand forward, when I felt a small opening in the box, my eyes light up.
"Now, pull the opening down and the jewelry will fall right into your hands' she said.
I took a hold of the small hole in the box and pulled it down but it didn't budge. I pulled again, this time, much harder but it still didn't move.
It won't open.
I gritted.
I think it's locked.
'No, they normally don't lock the boxes so that in case of a fire or natural disasters, it would be easy to take them out' she said.
But it won't open.
'Try one more time' she urged.
I grumbled but compiled anyway. I pulled the opening down but it didn't budge at all. I tried again and this time, I felt a small shift in the opening.
It's getting loose!
I added more power and I could feel it getting loose. Just when I was about to get the jewelry out, someone came forward.
"My dear, are you alright?" I looked up to see an old lady staring at me with concern.
"Uh...yes, I'm fine" I smiled with clenched teeth.
"What are you doing there?" She frowned.
"My necklace fell there," I said.
"Oh, should I help you out?" She moved forward to help.
"No!" I screeched.
If she comes any closer, she would see my hand inside the box.
"I mean, it's fine. Thank you" I grinned.
"Are you sure you're alright?" She raised her eyebrows.
Just get the hell out of here!
"Yes, thanks for your concern" I gritted out with a tight smile.
She turned around to leave and I took a breath of relief.
'Get it out now!' Aleka ordered.
That's what I'm doing!
I rolled my eyes.
I finally took off the opening and I felt a soft object drop on my hands.
It was the foam they put the jewelry on.
I took out the jewelry and dropped the foam back in the box.
My heart was tremibling as I stared at the jewelry up close.
Never in my life have I ever held such valuable assets. The weight of what I was holding on my hands suddenly dawned on me.
A treasure!
The bright blue color was mesmerizing under the light and the silver intricates on it made it glow like a gem in the dark.
Suddenly I felt a weight pulling me, it wasn't physically but rather spiritually. My body temperature went up and I could feel the jewelry.
I couldn't explain this feeling but it was as though I was somehow connected with the gem.
My soul felt like one with it.
'No time to dilly-dally. Get going' Aleka's voice brought me out of the spell I was dragged into.
But where do I hide the jewelry? There's a scan outside and it would definitely beep when I pass through with the gem.
I closed the gem in my palm.
'Put it in your locket' she said.
What?!
How do I put it in there?
'Just do it, the scan can never penetrate the locket'
What do you mean?!
I was confused now.
'Just do it, Andronika!' She snapped.
Okay! Okay!
I opened the locket on my neck and put the jewel inside as I watched for any onlookers.
Strangely, the gem fit right into the locket. It fit too well.
As though it was made for it.
'Now get out of here! Quick!' She said.
I looked around and slowly stepped out of the shadows. I put on a composed look as I walked out of the room.
My heart was beating like rapid fire and for the first time, my locket felt too heavy for me.
I had a calm face on but my legs were speeding out of the museum.
When I got to the entrance, the security guard was waiting by the door. I lowered my gaze and walked down.
"Thank you for visiting our museum, do come visit again," he said with a professional smile.
Not in this lifetime.
I gave him a small smile and didn't say anything.
He gestured for me to pass the scan which was by the doors.
I gripped my shirt as I trudged towards the scan.
I'm going to get caught!
This is it, the end of my life and future.
I'm going to get caught.
I closed my eyes tightly and passed through the scan which were two black electric stands at either side of the door.
I expected to hear a beep but was surprised when I stepped out of the door, I opened my eyes as I gaped.
How on earth?!
'I told you, it's impenetrable' I could feel Aleka smirk.
A smile broke out on my lips as I stepped out of the museum without a hitch.
As I was about to take a step down the stairs, someone called me from behind.
"Hey! Stop!"
My feet halted in the air and I could hear bells in my ears. My heart thumped a thousand miles faster as I realized what I was about to face.
I just got caught.
