Malekai led the way out of the cave with Cassie on his heels. He set an easy lope that allowed them to quickly cover the distance to the cedar tree without strain. When they reached the tree and ducked under the branch to shift and redress, Cassie was surprised to see Kurt, one of the trackers, waiting for them under the tree. She looked over at Malekai to see him nod at Kurt before Kurt turned and ducked out of the protection of the branches. She stayed in wolf form until Malekai shifted and picked up his pants that had been neatly folded.
“You can shift Cass,” Malekai told her with a grin. “I told you I asked him to come up here and guard our things while we went on a run.”
