A Special Dinner

Halen is ready to head back down to the dining room for dinner. There are going to be a couple of people from the pack there tonight. I think it's so we can all meet properly. I have been hiding in the pack house since I arrived. It's almost like I'm a secret, but I know it's to keep me protected. When someone new comes into pack territory, and they haven't officially met you, it can cause problems. I reached the dining room doors and heard soft talking. I slowly make my way into the dining room and everyone looks my way. Dante clears his throat and says to me,"Come inside Halen." " We have been waiting for you." He guides me to the seat next to him and helps me get comfortable. I look up at the others at the table and some of the faces look familiar. This shouldn't be too bad, I hope. Dante starts the conversation by getting everyone's attention. I looked at him and conveyed my nervousness about having everyone look at me. Dante just smiles at me and proceeds to introduce me to everyone at the table. As they go around they say their name, their rank, and how happy they are to meet me. I smile at each one as they talk and by the time they are finished I feel a lot better. The staff bring in our drinks and the first course, so we proceed to eat our dinner.

As time goes by, all I hear is the clinking of our silverware as we eat. I clear my throat quietly and when I look up from my plate everyone is looking at me like I have something important to say to them. I feel a little weird at this moment. My chest is getting a tight sensation, and I'm having a hard time breathing. Noticing my change in behavior, Dante rubs my back and eases some of the tension I was feeling. I feel, at this moment, I need to say something, so I look at everyone at the table and say, "I am happy to meet all of you and I hope I can be a valued member of this pack. I will try my best to fit in and help wherever I can. Thank you for making me feel welcomed." Everyone dips their head at me and says you're welcome all at once. It was really weird how I felt when they did that. Dante smiled at me and nodded his head like he was satisfied with the encounter. I was still shaking my head when the desert came. Dante looks at me and asks,"Why are you shaking your head? Don't you realize how awe-inspiring you are? Everyone at this table feels a special connection with you. Embrace those connections and this pack will be your safe haven. " You will be protected at all times and nothing will ever be able to harm you again." I just looked at him, speechless and blinking like I was in a trance.

As we finished our dinner, the atmosphere was calm and relaxing. We were all talking and all of a sudden Dante clinked his glass to get everyone's attention. I look over at him, and he looks at me with an intense stare. He gives a small smile to me and asks if he can get everyone's attention. Apparently he has an important announcement to make. I listen intently to see what could be so important and the next words I hear make my heart stutter and I feel like I need some fresh air. Dante looks around the room and lays his stare back at me and, with a smile, says "Halen, I don't know if you feel the connection as much as I do, but I am declaring right at this moment my claim as your mate." I just sat there dumbfounded. I have been feeling some kind of tug towards him but wasn't sure what it was. I didn't think I would ever find my mate due to being around my old pack and being shunned for being different, and being isolated so much. I didn't know what to say, so I made a squeaking sound and ran outside for some air. Behind me, I heard Dante say, "That went better than I thought it would." I held onto the railing, taking deep breaths to calm myself down. How did I miss this? I thought I was just staying here with friends that helped me. This changes everything. I am getting ready to turn around and run smack into a hard chest. Dante's arms shoot out to grab me, so I don't fall, and he asks if I'm OK? I shake my head and lean into his chest and realize I'm home. I have been missing the signals and signs of our pairing.

We spend a few more minutes together, and then we walk back inside, holding hands. The pack is still there winding down from the excitement and coming over to congratulate us. I am speechless as everyone says they are happy I will be their Luna. I would like to get close to a lot of the pack members by teaching them some of their strengths. Everyone has a special ability, but it takes confidence and practice to manifest it. I wanted to build relationships based on the different abilities and how they could help the pack. I didn't realize I was actually going to build up my own family and build a stronger pack. I think this is why my feelings are surfacing now and why Dante declared us mates publicly. We will be a strong pairing and I plan to test this pairing out to see what comes of it. I'm still skeptical of my safety due to my past, but I am hoping Dante and the rest of the pack can prove me wrong. I just need to keep my ears open for any news about my old pack and pray they forget about me.

I can honestly say there is a big job ahead of me, but I'm excited about it. I am actually kind of excited about being mates as well. Dante is a great alpha and a great person. I think he will help me grow stronger and help me feel like I am a worthy person. I already feel well-loved and I just got here.
