As Playful As A Puppy
Hannah
"So Christopher you are telling me there are no leads at all? Last I knew there were a few leads" Hannah argues on the phone that night.
"I am sorry Hannah. I can't tell you a thing until I find out more. Are you safe? Or does someone need to come out?" her former husband's best friend asks her.
"I am fine right now. Nothing has come up which is good. I have not even had a chance to tell my family that I moved out here yet" she sighs.
"Don't do that" exclaims Christopher.
"Why not?" she asks.
"Well, you never know who murdered your man. You can't trust anyone. Not even blood" he begins to say.
"I know you Chris. You were always a horrid secret keeper. Tell me what is going on? You know something don't you?" demands Hannah.
"I do. But I can't say until it is confirmed. Promise me you will not call anyone else back home" he begs of her.
"That bad huh?" she sighs.
"Yes" he mumbles. "I am only trying to keep you and Mimi safe. That is what Carlos would have wanted"
"I know he would have. Look, I won't call back home. Only you. For now. Only if you keep me updated on news" she demands.
"You have yourself a deal" he says to her.
"Call me if we are in any danger" she pleads.
"You know I will. Better than that you know I would be there in a heartbeat to take down this criminal ass" he grumbles.

Her phone rings. It was her brother-in-law checking in. Her former one. Paul.
"Alright, call me later. Keep in touch" she sighs.
"We will catch this bastard who killed Carlos" he promises her.
"I hope so. I will feel better when they are behind bars" she says as tears come to her eyes.
"Me to" agrees Christopher. "Keep safe Hannah, bye" he says before he hangs up. Hannah sniffs back tears as she thinks about her poor Carlos she missed with her whole heart.
She grabs a tissue thinking of the time she came back to find her husband right outside her home lying in a pool of his own blood.
Shot right at home. What kind of animal would do that to a cop? At his home? For his family to see.

"Momma?" Mimi says sleepily as she yawns coming out in her moose print green pj's.
"Mimi why are you up late?" she wonders as she dries her tears quickly.
"I heard talking. You sounded upset. Momma are you crying?" Mimi asks softly. Mimi had saw her father lying there to just as Hannah had found him dead.
Hannah was crying when Mimi found her hoovering over her husband's body. Mimi had a few restless nights from nightmares from it. Hannah scoops up Mimi in her arms. Hugging her.
"I was just on the phone with Uncle Chris" says Hannah.
"Did he catch the bad man?" wonders Mimi hopefully.
"No sweetie not yet" sighs Hannah.
Mimi knew that a bad man or woman had killed her father because of his line of work. Mimi knew Hannah had moved them out there to be safe.

"Daddy would want his baby to get a good night's sleep. Right?" asks Hannah. She hugs her daughter.
"Right!" yawns Mimi.
"Come on. Let's get you back in bed" says Hannah.
"Momma, I wish you were happy again. You are sad" Mimi says softly as she reaches out and touches her mother's cheek.
"I will be happy once the bad man is caught. We will celebrate" says Hannah. She tucks Mimi back in bed.
"I love you Mom. Dad would not want you to be sad either" points out Mimi as she tugs as Hannah's heart strings.
"I know baby. You have school get some sleep. You get a lesson with Mrs. Tolsen to" reminds Hannah.
"I like her" Mimi says as she lays on her pillow.
"Me to" Hannah replies as she turns off the lights in the bedroom.

She leaves the night light on in Mimi's room. She heads out. She leans back on the couch. Tears come to her.
She never thought she would be raising her baby without her man. She missed him so much everyday. Carlos was taken from her so soon. He was to young to die like that.
She glances down at her wedding rings. The only thing she had left of Carlos. Their dreams. Carlos had always wanted to visit Alaska. So she was drawn out here.
She thought she would come see why he loved it out here so much. Carlos was always a woodsy outdoors man kind of man. He loved to take them camping in the summer. He loved hiking on trails in the woods to. Fishing as well.
"I miss you so much Carlos. When will it stop hurting so much?" she wonders as she looks at her rings with blurred vision from her tears.

Her phone rings. She goes to see what Paul had wanted on his message he had left her. She plays her message. It was good to hear Paul's voice.
"Hi honey. Calling to see how you are holding up with things. Funny thing is I went by the house today. The police tape was removed. Good thing. But the bad thing was there is a for sale sign on the home. You were gone. I really hope you and Mimi are safe. Please call me and let me know what is going on okay? I can't help you out unless I know where you are. I hope they find him or her soon. Please call me as soon as you get this. Give Mimi all my love love" Paul leaves her a lengthy message. She looks down at the photo of him and Carlos smiling together on the photo id.
"Don't call home" she hears Chris's warning voice in her head.
"Sorry Uncle Paul I cannot call right now" sighs Hannah. She deletes the message. She knew Chris was right. Who knew who the killer was? If she gave her where abouts she would be leading the killer right to her daughter. She was never going to let that happen. Hannah leans back. Trying to get some rest.

She had become a bit of an insomniac after her husband was killed. She found it hard to sleep without him at her side.
She wondered if she was ever going to get used to it? Him being gone. Suddenly she hears scratching and whining at her front door. She curiously gets up. She looks out her door. There was her little wolf friend looking for her. She opens the door.
"Hi there you" she laughs as she kneels down to pet him. "Are you Reckless?" she asks him. He seems to understand her. He noses his nose on the ground as if to say heck no. "Are you Fearless then?" she questions the wolf. He looks up into her eyes. He places a paw on her leg. He licks her hand as though he was saying "Yes" "Fearless huh?" she giggles. She pet his soft black fur.
"So are you coming to check up on me? Seems like everyone wants to these days" she sighs. She grabs her coat. Then shuts the door behind her. She pets the wolf with love. "Why does change have to be so hard to get used to? I am so scared. I don't know what to do. Who to trust. Funny thing is I feel like I can trust you because you saved my life. To bad you don't talk" she chuckles as she pets him.
He whines as he nuzzles his nose on her hand for more love.

"You are so adorable" she laughs. "I miss my home. I don't think it will ever be safe for us to go back again. They killed my husband. Right in my home. I bet if you were there than you would have protected him from that bastard killer" she says bitterly. "Like you saved me from the bear" she sighs. He whines as though he understood her. He lays his head in her lap looking up at her with those adorable puppy dog eyes of his. He begins to walk away.
"Hey did I scare you off?" she asks.
He waits for her.
"Do you want to show me something?" she wonders.
He almost human like nods his head yes for her. But that was not possible right? He suddenly knocks into her. She lands on top of his large body. She laughs as she has no choice but to hang onto his furry neck. He runs with her hanging on tight. The cool wind hits her fast.
She suddenly feels more alive than she had in weeks as he runs her into the wooded trail. She never even knew this was all back there.
The trees were so tall. They reached the skies. It was no wonder that Carlos had loved the beauty of this place.

"Wow, amazing" gasps Hannah as he runs her up a mountain side.
They stop at the top. He lets her get off. She looks over the edge. The lights across the night sky was simply breath taking.
"Thank you for taking me up here. I never have saw anything so beautiful before" she tells her wolf friend.
He rubs on her leg. She pets him as they gaze up at the night sky. He looks at the full moon. It was a bright yellow orange. He suddenly howls. A deep howl she never heard.
A soulful howl that almost made her want to let one out. But that would be silly of her. He helps her back on his back. He leads her back home quickly.
"Thank you for that Fearless. I love it out there. Carlos would have loved it to. I hope to see you again. Come visit me again will you?" she begs the wolf. As she does she leans in and hugs his neck. He licks her face.
"Thank you again for saving my life. Maybe in some way Carlos sent you from the heavens. Who knows?!" she laughs. "Well I better get back in with Mimi. Night Fearless" He leans on her leg as though he did not want to let her go yet.
She hugged him one more time. Then went inside for the night. She felt better than she had in a long time.
