Weylyn was running like the wind. Cassie's body was becoming bigger and bigger. He was running faster and faster, like the wind was carrying him forward. The roar of a 6 cylinder engine behind him made him go slower. The 1969 Ford Mustang passed him like nothing. The metal beast stopped beside Cassie.
- C'mon, come in. - Rob was trying to make her come with her.
- I told you before. I'll tell you again. No. Your girlfriend wants me dead just because you're talking to me. I don't want trouble. - she replied.
- She isn't my girlfriend. She is just a gold digger. Come on, I'll protect you from her.
- Hmm, no.
- Listen up. You're new here. And we don't like new people. It'll be good for you to be with someone that can defend you from the negativity. I'm a big deal around here.
- I don't care about people.
Rob saw Weylyn coming in his side mirror.
- Ha. Good luck then. And walking around with that looser... - he pointed with his thumb towards the running boy. - ...will only make everything worse.
She looked remorsefully at Weylyn.
- Last chance, beauty. Come on, hop in.
- No.
The car kick-started and flew down the street.
The boy finally reached Cassie.
- H....Hey. - he said panting.
- Sup, weirdo.
- I...have...
- Take a breath. - she said and sat down on the sidewalk.
He sat next to her and collected his thoughts and lungs.
- I have a question.
- Yeah?
- Why did you save me?
- I didn't. You weren't in critical condition. - she said
- Yeah, but you know. You gave a s**t about me. - he replied
- It's what people do? I guess this place is filled with statues.
- Yeah, you're right. It's weird how I don't remember anything, right?
- What do you mean?
- I don't remember you. And I'd remember this beautiful face.
Cassie smiled slightly.
- And since the day after that. - he continued. - I can't stop thinking about you.
- That's...interesting. Could be a side effect from a trauma. The brain can be weird like that.
- The thing is...I feel like I've known you my whole life. It sounds...cheesy. But it is true.
She put a lock of hair to the side and asked:
- And what do you know about me?
- That you came from the sky.
- Really?
- Yeah, because I've fallen hard on you. f**k, no. It's the other way around...Shit.
Cassie bursted in laughter. Her voice was angelic, but her laugh was something else. It sounded like dying cats that scratch metal plates.
- Oh. I'm...sorry. - she said, her cheeks slightly blushing. - I just...haven't laughed in awhile.
- No no. Don't worry. Anyway, why Hedgerow? You're too smart for this town.
- Same reason you're here.
- I'm here, because I was born here.
- Well, my family is from here.
- Interesting. So, what do you do in your free time? - asked Weylyn.
The screech of burning out tires around the corner stopped their conversation.
- s**t, it's Robbie. He can't see us here....together.
- What's wrong with it? - confusedly asked Cassie.
- Come, now!
They ran behind a tree. The Ford Mustang stopped at their past location. Another car stopped behind the Ford, but they couldn't see it clearly. Robbie got out of the car with his gang and Jessica came out of the second one with hers.
- I saw them here a second ago. We didn't drive past them, the little s**t lives down the street. They couldn't have gone back too. She was carrying food. - Rob was talking to himself.
- They must be here, then. - intelligently concluded Sean.
- Of f*****g course they're here, dipshit. - said the tall, slightly muscular rich boy.
- Robbie, I call dibs on the girl. - said Jessica.
He didn't reply.
- Did you hear me?
- Shut up. What was that? - he asked, after he heard a stick breaking.
- f**k. - whispered Weylyn. - Run!
They both started running towards the forest.
- There they are! Catch the little piggies! - screamed Robbie like a madman.
- Don't stop! - yelled Weylyn.
The forest was becoming thicker and thicker. Suddenly a high-pitch sound made them both drop on the ground.
- Ah! What is that! - screamed Cassie.
- I don't....know...but. - he snapped out of it. - We need to move! They're coming.
- I can't... .My ears! - she continued squirming on the ground.
Weylyn lifted her up.
- Can you smell rotting meat? - he noted.
- What?
- I asked... - he got knocked out cold in the back of the head.
Cassie was keeping her eyes shut because of the pain.
- Yo, what the f**k is that! - screamed one of the bullies.
- Run! - another one yelled.
- Leave them, let's run!
The blonde girl passed out from the ringing in her ears.
She opened her blue eyes on a flower field, which was surrounded by trees. The slender girl stood up and looked around.
- The...the boy. I didn't even ask about his name...I don't know how to call for him. - she was talking to herself and started breaking down.
A shriek from the woods made her snap out.
- Who's there!?
The sky turned purple. Something big was moving the trees around. Everything became dark. Cassie saw a pair of red eyes watching her from beyond the trees. They started becoming bigger and bigger. A large dark creature came forward. It's white teeth and red eyes were the only thing she could see. Before it could jump toward her, she passed out from fear.
Weylyn opened his eyes on the same place, where he got knocked out. Cassie was not there. He stood up and and started calling for her name. He decided to go further into the woods. The bullies wouldn't just knock him out and take her away. They would've made fun of them first. In the distance, there was a clearing. He may had hallucinated, but he could see the blue dress Cassie was wearing. Weylyn bolted forward, numbing the pain in the pack of his head. It was her. She was just laying there in a circle of flowers, like a wood nymph. He carefully lifted her head on his lap.
- Cassie, are you okay? Cassie! - he yelled, shaking her around.
Weylyn decided to kiss her, but that seemed stupid at second thought. He was a solid science believer. But again, this situation wasn't exactly normal. Maybe it was his beat in brain, or his pounding heart, but he went in to kiss her. She grabbed his face, her eyes still closed.
- No.
- Cassie!
- What in the actual f**k just happened? - she sat up and grabbed her head. - Did I get drugged?
- I honestly don't know. It wasn't the bullies.
- Yeah, I remember hearing them screaming like little girls.
- This is what I wanted to tell you the day I showed you the caves. Something weird is happening in this town.
Cassie nodded, holding her head.
- Come with me to my place. I'll show you the book.
- Okay, everywhere else than this cursed place is better. - she got up with his help. - By the way, what's your name?
- Weylyn. Nice to meet you. - he smiled and shook her hand, which she used as a leverage to get up.
- Cassie...Nice to meet you....Woo. Sounds good.
- What?
- Your name means Son of a Wolf...so I'll call you Woo.
- Definitely no. - he said squarely.
- Oh, c'mon. it's cute.
- Okay, Kay.
- Ha, very funny. - she said and punched him in the arm.
They started heading to the road.
