Tempted by the Dark

910 Words
The night wrapped around Montmartre like a velvet cloak, heavy and intoxicating. Every streetlamp cast long shadows, and every shadow seemed alive. I hugged my sketchbook to my chest, though my thoughts weren’t on the drawings. They were on him—Lucien—the pull of him, the fire in his eyes, the danger that made my pulse race. “Finally,” he whispered from the shadows, stepping into the dim light, coat dripping with rain. Gold eyes blazing, lips slightly parted, a predator who could devour me with a look. “You… again,” I breathed, trying to hide my racing heart. “I never left,” he murmured, stepping closer, brushing my hair back, fingers grazing my neck. A shiver ran through me, hot and electric. “And I never will.” My lips parted, almost without thinking. “Lucien…” He leaned in, so close I could feel the heat of his breath, the tension vibrating between us. His fingers brushed my jaw, light and teasing, igniting sparks along my skin. My knees threatened to give out. “Do you feel it?” he whispered, lips just above mine. “The pull? The bite?” “I… I can’t—” I tried to resist, but my voice failed me. “Shh,” he murmured, placing a finger over my lips. “Not yet. But soon… it will consume you.” His lips brushed mine—just a ghost, a teasing touch—and my body shivered violently. My heartbeat thundered, my stomach twisted, and I wanted more. I wanted the fire he promised, the danger he carried, the bite that was already claiming me. “You’re impossible,” I breathed, trying to push back, but my hands clutched his coat, needing to feel him, needing to know he was real. “No,” he said, voice low, rough. “I’m exactly what you need. And you already know it.” The air crackled with tension. Sparks seemed to fly wherever he moved. I wanted to lean in, to close the gap, to let the moment ignite—but the street wasn’t empty. Shadows moved, and instinct screamed danger. A low growl rolled from the alley behind us. Lucien stiffened instantly, body taut, eyes glowing gold. He pressed against me, protective, warm, and suffocating in the best possible way. “They’re close,” he whispered, jaw tight. “Pack rivals. They’ll try to take you. They’ll try to take me.” I shivered, half from fear, half from heat. My lips still tingled from his teasing touch. “Then… what do we do?” “Stay with me,” he said, hand brushing my cheek again, fingers grazing my lips. Sparks shot through me. My chest burned, my pulse raced. “And let me keep you safe… until the bite takes full hold.” I couldn’t think. Couldn’t breathe. Couldn’t resist. The magnetic pull of him, the desire and danger and tension—it was addictive. My hands traced the curve of his chest, feeling the strength beneath his coat. He leaned closer, teeth brushing my earlobe, whispering, “Soon, you’ll beg for it. The bite, the pull… me.” My body trembled. Every nerve alive. I wanted him more than I had ever wanted anyone. My fingers curled against his coat, pulling him closer. My lips hovered over his, almost touching, almost tasting the fire between us. “Not yet,” he whispered, lips barely brushing mine. “But I can’t promise I’ll wait long.” A shadow darted across the street. My heart jumped. Lucien reacted instantly, wrapping an arm around me, pulling me into the shadows. Protective, alpha, magnetic. Gold eyes scanning, teeth flashing. In one motion, the threat vanished—but the warning remained. “You see?” he murmured, chest pressing against mine, hand grazing my waist. “Danger never sleeps. But neither do I. And neither will your desire.” I swallowed hard, lips tingling, body on fire. “You… you’re insane,” I whispered, half-breathless, half-melted. “No,” he said, tilting my chin, lips brushing mine again. Sparks, heat, tension. “I’m exactly what you need. And soon… you’ll know it for yourself. Every heartbeat, every breath, every touch will pull you to me.” I closed my eyes, leaning just slightly into him. The pull—the fire—the bite—it was consuming me already. My body ached for him. My lips tingled. My heart raced. Then, a howl split the night. Claws scraped the cobblestones. Lucien stiffened again, protective, eyes glowing gold, body coiled like a predator ready to strike. He pressed against me, hand lightly trailing down my arm, brushing my skin, igniting sparks. “They’re near,” he whispered. “And they’ll come for you. For me. But you… stay. And feel it. The pull. The bite. And soon…” He leaned closer, lips brushing my jaw, then my neck, teasing, dangerous. “…you’ll never resist.” I gasped, caught between fear, desire, and the addictive pull of him. My body trembled. My heart raced. My lips ached. He pulled back slightly, golden eyes locking onto mine. “Remember this feeling,” he said. “Remember it tonight, because tomorrow… the bite will be real. And nothing… nothing will ever be the same.” Then, like smoke in the wind, he vanished into the shadows, leaving me trembling, burning, and utterly, completely marked.
