Leaving the hospital was both great and disappointing as I knew it was hurting Jez to say goodbye. But as my mate Paul pulled up to pick me up I felt my spirits lift. Knowing I was soon going to see my baby girl properly. As he dropped me outside the school I walked up to the gates excited. I had 10 minutes to spare so I waited. They unlocked the gates and I raced on through and stood outside my daughter's class waiting. Warren came up behind me tapping me on the shoulder making me jump. I instantly hugged him and thanked him. As we started talking others finally noticed me and started walking up to me to welcome me back. It was odd as they didn't normally bother with me. Karla one of the mums that I'm friends with and I normally spoke to looked angry at me. As I walked up to her she turned her back. Oh crap! I thought as the question what had I done went flying through my head. I tapped her on the shoulder. "What have I done?" I asked her solemnly. She whirled round fast and tears in her eyes as she screeched at me "No calls? No texts? Not even a peep for over a month? I was worried sick!"
I lowered my eyes ashamed. And before I could speak Warren chimed in "she was really sick and stuck in hospital"
My friend raised her eyebrow at me and I nodded. I didn't want anyone to know. She looked at me and said "I guess I'm coming for dinner tonight then and you can explain yourself"
I nodded as the kids classroom door opened and they all started being released one by one to their parents.
Lily came rushing out past her classmates and jumped up cuddling me "I missed you mummy!" She shrilled at me
"I missed you too baby" I gushed as I gave her a big squeeze. The teachers started to approach me uh oh was all that went through my mind. "Welcome back" they said to me surprisingly. Although their faces seemed it be hiding something more. "Thanks?" I said waiting for them to say whatever it is they seemed anxious to tell me. They looked at eachother then back at me. "Were you made aware that children's services have contacted us?" My face dropped and I felt shocked "no?" I asked more than said. Looking to Warren he held up his hands and shook his head. "Okay please follow us because there's a social worker waiting to speak with you in the office."
