Alissa did her level best to avoid eye contact with everyone present. If Zach took issue with her attitude, it didn’t show. Every time she glanced up at him his smile was wide and appeared genuine enough. When he dragged her to the drinks table her presence caused a stir. Both Adrienne and Raven fled, and although Alissa had no idea what she’d done to elicit such a response, she couldn’t help but feel guilty.
On their trip around the glorified assembly hall, Zach gave the occasional order; to say hello, to smile at someone or to dance. Alissa obeyed without question, never changing her expression. If this was a power trip, she was determined to give him as little satisfaction as possible. He would grow bored with tormenting her eventually if she failed to react.
