When Atticus got his new eyeglasses he went to the supermarket. A lof of people was outside because it’s weekend. There are family walking talking, couples and friends while he is walking alone. But Atticus told himself that it is okay to be alone.
He adjusted his eyeglasses and went inside the supermarket. There are a lot of people inside and he’s sure that it will take him three to five hours because the line is so long and that there are a lot of people buying foods.
First thing that Atticus did is he took a cart and goes to the noodles corner. He took ten packs of noodles and put it on his cart. Then he went to the canned goods sections, he took fifteen canned goods and put it on his cart.
“Wow, the weak Atticus is here!”
Atticus was frozen when he heard that voice. Here he is again! His classmate Dalton! He saw the man walking towards at him; he’s with a girl and two boys.
“I thought you don’t have money, weak Atticus?” Dalton asked him.
Atticus mouth opened but he can’t say even a single word. He’s so afraid to talk. Atticus is sure that Dalton will beat him at school on Monday after this.
“I-I-I really don’t have money, D-Dalton, I am just h-here because my father told me to buy groceries. I am s-saying the t-truth.” He said stuttering.
Weak! You can’t even look at the man straight into his eyes! What a coward!
He told himself. Atticus closed his eyes for seconds and when he opened it he saw Dalton looking at him. He looked behind him and he saw some people, he’s sure Dalton will not going to do something bad because if he did some people will stop him now.
“Why are you looking behind, weak Atticus?” Dalton asked.
“Stop it, Dalton, you are being mean again. What did this guy did to you to treat him like this, huh?” the girl said.
It seems like the girl is Dalton’s girlfriend. Atticus saw Dalton looked at him sharply.
“Be thankful that I am with my girl, weak Atticus, because If we are at school, I will punch you straight in your face, annoying freak.” Dalton said and they left with his girlfriend and the two boys.
Atticus has deep breathes. He didn’t expect that he will see Dalton at the supermarket that time. His day is starting good but after Dalton came in the scene and started to threaten him again he forgot what kind of man he is.
“Dalton is right, I am weak and coward. I wish I can defend myself the next time we meet again. I can’t afford to lose another eyeglasses, Papa will surely get mad and maybe he will not going to give me money next time.” He said.
Atticus finished taking groceries and putting it on his cart. When he’s done he falls in line. He saw that there are a lot on the line where he was in, when he looked at his wristwatch it’s already 2:00 pm. He didn’t know what time his father will arrive today, he forgot to ask.
“Do you have a card sir?” the lady on the counter asked him.
Atticus almost forgot the he’s next.
“A-Ah, I don’t have.” He said and put his items.
After he’s done he bought some bread at the famous bakery in their city, the homebakers. His father loves to eat breads from their shop and he noticed that when he bought pandesal once.
He smiled; even though he saw Dalton and he threaten him he’s still happy. He will not let him ruin his day. He wants to remind himself again that his father gave him money voluntarily and he didn’t ask for it, they had a good conversation before his father goes to work and the old woman that he helped to throw some garbage will now live together with her daughter.
“If this goes on, and that a lot of good things will happen I will no longer try to hurt myself and think of bad things.” He said.
While on his way home Atticus saw a man on the road, the man is asking for alms. Atticus went to the man and when he’s about to give him some bread the man suddenly grabs his arm. Atticus was shocked by the man’s action.
“I can see that you will be a good and useful human being… but not here on earth.” The man said.
He’s looking directly at him and he got chills when the man’s eyes started to look sharply at him.
“You need to follow her, you need to obey her, everything that she will say to you… because if not demons will devour you.”
Because he’s afraid of what the man was talking about, he pulled his arm and left some bread In front of him.
“Whew, that was creepy. Who is that man? Maybe he’s crazy because he’s hungry. I wish he’s fine.” He said.
When Atticus reached their house he took his key and opened the door. He can now see clearly because of his new eyeglasses. The doctor at the clinic told him that buying eyeglasses for poor eyesight is not advisable; patients need to look for doctors so that they will examine them. The exact measurement of the lenses of the eyeglasses will be given to the patient.
“I think I can now read and write clearly because of this eyeglasses, I need to thank father when he got home. I’m so happy because of this.” He said.
Atticus put the groceries on the ref and on the cabinet. He left the pork he bought because he will go to start to cook their food. He’s sure that he will get done after five pm and maybe his father came home by that time.
Atticus smirked remembering Dalton at the supermarket a while ago.
“Wow, the weak Atticus is here!”
Atticus was frozen when he heard that voice. Here he is again! His classmate Dalton! He saw the man walking towards at him; he’s with a girl and two boys.
“I thought you don’t have money, weak Atticus?” Dalton asked him.
“Just wait, soon I can crash you, too Dalton. Soon I can also threaten you and make your knees tremble in fear. What you are doing will be back to you. Remember that.”
