-14- Vaughn’s mind churned, as did his stomach. Detective Reed’s questions took him off guard. The only person he’d discussed Dean Sanders with was Autumn Clarke. She must have told Reed. He could not remember why he’d even brought Sanders up in the first place. It was her relaxed demeanor and sweet countenance that let his guard down. Besides, he always liked Chrissy and was happy she had found a good home. He did not expect a connection between Autumn Clarke and Detective Reed. What had she told him? It may work in his favor, but it could also hurt him in the end. Dean Sanders was a weasel and could not be trusted. Throwing suspicion in his direction could backfire on Vaughn. The accountant would provide evidence of the missing money, but he could not trace it to a particular person.
