"You shouldn't have agreed to marry him if it's for my sake and more so, you can't be with a man you don't love genuinely.
Marriage is a promise and you will be spending the rest of your life with him," Mr. Blackwood said, slowly as he held his daughter's soft hands.
"Dad, I love him a lot. I've been crushing on him right before I met Marcus, please try to understand me," Chloe said, holding Nathaniel's hand and pleading with her father.
Mr. Blackwood knew that Chloe was lying because he knew his daughter too well, but he had to accept knowing that it could be reversed since the person she got married to was a powerful and wealthy man who could easily take down anyone who disobeys him.
"Alright Chloe, I wish you the best of luck in your marriage with Adrian," Mr. Blackwood said.
"Thank you, Dad, how about you Nathaniel?" Chloe asked, holding Nathaniel's hand and turning towards him.
"Fine," Nathaniel said, squeezing his arm out of Chloe's grip.
"Thank you," Chloe said, pulling both men into a hug.
"Dad, I would love to take my leave now," Chloe said, standing up.
"Why so soon? Have breakfast with us before you leave," Nathaniel requested.
"No, but I will try to visit you guys often. Nathaniel, please tell Dad to forget about Mom and remarry.
It's been fifteen good years already. He needs someone to monitor his health and stay by his side at all times," Chloe said and left immediately without looking back or waiting for Nathaniel's response.
A few minutes after Chloe left, Mr. Blackwood bowed his head sadly on the table as he remembered how his beautiful wife died.
Mrs. Blackwood had breast cancer right from when she was pregnant with Chloe. She struggled with it till she gave birth to Chloe and she turned seven.
It was a few months after Chloe clocked seven years old that she gave up when she couldn't hold onto the pain any longer.
Chloe returned to Adrian's house according to the instructions given. A few hours after she got to the house, Chloe felt bored since she wasn't talking to anyone.
So, she walked to his bookshelf to keep herself busy with some romance novels that she could find. Chloe always wished to be like the ladies she always read about in the stories.
Find someone who truly loves her and lives happily, but here she was, the opposite of the stories she actually read daily.
Chloe was lost in the fantasies of her romance novel when a knock suddenly interrupted her thoughts.
She sat upright on her bed with the book lying face down on her bed.
"Who is there?" Chloe asked.
"Good day ma'am, it's one of the maids," the maid replied.
"You can come in, the door is not locked," Chloe said slowly.
The maid opened the door and dragged a big heavy box behind her as she walked in.
"Good day ma'am, someone asked me to deliver this big box to you," the maid said, pushing the box closer to Chloe.
"Thank you," Chloe said, nodding her head.
"Ma'am, do you need my help in unpacking the contents of the box?" The maid asked.
"No, thank you. I can do all that myself," Chloe responded, flashing a smile at the maid.
"Alright ma'am, I'd love to excuse myself then," the maid said with a bow and walked out of Chloe's room.
Chloe carried the box as heavy as it was and placed it on her bed to check the contents that were inside.
She opened it, and the first thing that caught her attention was the blue and black dress she had been longing to have ever since she clocked eighteen.
She continued looking and saw a five-inch heel made of Crystal and a diamond necklace to match.
The diamond necklace that was gently placed inside the box was the one that shocked her the most as she recognized it instantly.
Every lady on this planet wishes to have that type of necklace, but it is expensive and a limited edition.
Money alone can't buy that necklace.
"You need money and connection to get a limited-edition item like this," Chloe muttered.
Chloe was still staring at the necklace happily when her phone started ringing. She checked and realized it was a strange number.
Chloe gently placed the necklace back into the box and picked up her call.
"Who is this please?" Chloe asked politely, and immediately she picked up.
"Have you received the items I sent over to you?" Adrian asked over the phone.
Chloe closed her mouth in shock immediately she realized it was Adrian. She knew that no one could afford to get her such an expensive gift except for Adrian.
"Yes, I just received the gift," Chloe replied.
"I just booked a stylist for you, she ought to be with you any moment from now. Also, get ready for tonight because my driver is coming to pick you up.
We are both attending an important event this evening. Please don't make any attempt to embarrass me in public," Adrian said, and ended the call immediately.
Chloe threw her phone angrily on the bed as Adrian didn't allow her to speak.
"He's such an arrogant person and so full of himself," Chloe muttered.
"By the way, I'm not sure I would love to attend any event at the moment," Chloe thought.
She picked up her phone again and redialed the number Adrian used in calling her earlier.
Adrian, on the other hand, picked up the call immediately he saw that it was Chloe calling.
"What is it?" Adrian asked coldly.
"I....." Chloe couldn't find the right words to say.
"Why did you call me?" Adrian asked impatiently.
"Oh, I'm so sorry, I mistakenly dialed your number," Chloe stammered as she closed her eyes tightly.
"Don't you ever dial my number again if it's not important," Adrian warned and ended the call.
Chloe heaved out a heavy sigh of relief immediately after Adrian ended the call.
She was so brave before she dialed his number, but immediately he picked up, she became scared of him and had to close her eyes before she started crying.
Chloe screamed loudly and jumped on her bed angrily careful not to destroy her clothes.
"Why am I scared of him? Why am I afraid? It's not like if I say my mind, he will eat me up, or will he?" Chloe thought.
*******
She should just say her mind and stay back at home, or what don't think?
Left to me, I will tell him straight, but do I have the mind to say that to a CEO who's helping my family through financial crises.
