"She is lucky to be alive. A lot of patients I have seen usually die on thespot."
My eyes opened swiftly, trying to take in the environment, but the rays of the sun and the light in the room, affected my eyes.
"Miss? How are you feeling?" The same voice asked, while I shut my eyesfor a second.
Slowly, I opened them once again and I was able to make out blue eyes hidden behind thick lenses. He had a stethoscope around his neck.
"What am I doing here? What is going on?“ I asked the doctor. There was a man of moderate built beside him staring daggers at me.
"Because of you, I have the media hounding me. Congratulations, you got my attention.“ I squint my eyebrows together in confusion.
"Mr. Gary, you have to calm down. We need the patient to be at their very best. She is still out of it right now."
“Don't tell me to calm down. I have freaking internet making useless claims about me. Everyone thinks I murdered her." He spat.
"I am sorry." I found the words to use.
They both stared at me for a moment, the stranger contemplating what to say, while the doctor scans me.
"I should not have brought my problems to an end, at the detriment of others." I said, without looking at him.
"I will leave you two now. Once you are done with her, kindly inform me.“ The doctor said and left the room.
The place was silent and from my peripheral vision, I see the stranger sit gracefully by my bedside, his eyes scanning me thoroughly for a second.
"You were not reckless, but intentional about it?" He asked in disbelief."Why will anybody want to end their own life?"
"Just because you have a beautiful life doesn't mean everyone does." I snapped at him. "I was in a marriage for barely two years and he cheated on me with my best friend. His family doesn't want me. They believe I'm barren. So don't think I don't have a reason to end my miserable life.“
As I took in breath after my mini rant, I noticed he had a look of sympathy on his face.
"Still doesn't mean you have to end everything, there is always a way out."
He picked up my hand and pulled my gaze to meet his.
"I have an offer for you." He said, caressing my chin. Why was this stranger being so touchy?
I didn't know why I wasn't resisting his touch too. There was something about him though.
"Marry me. Be my wife and I will take all the pain away." His voice was deep and his tone confident.
"How can you say such a thing?" I asked removing my hands from his. "I just left one futile marriage. I don't think I want to experience such phase again."
"I don't have all the time in the world sweetheart, either you take this offer or..." He pointed to the door. "I leave thismoment. I have sorted your bills but the truth is there would be nowhere for you to go."
I hated the cockiness that in his tone. It almost felt like he was certain about the weak points of my life and was trying to exploit them.
"I don't even know your name. I don't know your background." I said.
"My name is Gary and I am the head of the multi billion dollar corporation....Rex." He introduced.
I stared in shock realizing who was sitting by me.
There had been rumours about an infamous billionaire, who ran the corporate world, but I never spared it another thought.
"The same man who is allegedly in control of the corporate world?" I voiced out my thought.
His eyebrow went up in a questioning manner and I could tell nobody has ever spoken to him so brazenly like that.
"How did you hear that?“ He asked.
"It's a rumour that I heard from my eh, friend." I hesitated remembering Stacy's face.My mood plummeted remembering that she had played me and slept with my husband.
"A penny for your thoughts?" He asked.
I need to prove to everyone that I am not as weak as they have portrayed me to be. No one would dare to mess with a powerful woman, barren or not.
"I accept your offer." I looked him in the eye with conviction.
He looked at me for a moment. I noticed he was observing every detail about me.
"Very well then, I will have the doctor get you ready." He said grabbing my hands and squeezing them in comfort. "The side benefit to this agreement is that you would be compensated for everything in monetary value."
It was a fair reward and I was ready to look beyond what they had done to me.
"I accept." I said to him.
"I will get the doctor." As he left my side, I suddenly begin to feel nauseous.
"Mr. Gary?" I said, holding my temple and calming my banging head. "I don't feel too go...." I couldn't get the last word from my mouth before I puked on the ground.
I turned to see he had left the room. Was puking now a symptom of concussion?
The door opened and the doctor entered with several nurses came to my rescue.
While the doctor steadied me in the bed, another nurse brought cleaning equipments.
"Mr. Gary, I forgot to add one last information about her and I figured we would discuss it in my office." I looked at the doctor and wondered what he was talking about.
"Spill." Gary ordered.
"Well, con
gratulations ma'am you are two months pregnant."
