Luna's POV
The table went quiet as we all focused on our foods. It has been long I ate something nice and I'm glad that I succeeded in convincing Mark to do my bidding.
At that moment, Mark's father stood up and picked his briefcase. "I'll be leaving now" He announced. "Excuse me Luna. Can I have a moment with you?" He added, walking outside.
" Sure sir" I replied, standing up but Mark gripped my right hand and shook his head in a way that shows that I shouldn't go with his father.
"Why?" I asked, confused.
"Why does he want to see you secretly? Is it not suspicious?" He furrowed his brows.
" No sir. I don't find it suspicious" I shrugged. I pushed off his hand and walked out to meet Mr Peter who was already seated in his car and ready to go.
"Come in" he ordered.
I pushed open the car's door and sat down.
"Firstly, I want to apologise on behalf of Sarah for all the commotions and embarrassment yesterday. Sarah is not that kind of person, I don't know what got into her yesterday" He apologized.
Sarah is not like that? Is he kidding me?. Poor man! If only he knows that he got married to a devil.
"I have forgiven her sir but Mark believes that you are behind it"
" No I am not. I wasn't aware and I can never do such a thing to my son"
" I know sir. I will try my best to convince Mark to see that you truly care about him and his sister. "
He gave me a warm smile. " Thank you so much. For the first time after his mom died, Mark finally joined us for breakfast and it is all thanks to you. I am really grateful for all your help to change my son"
"It is my pleasure sir. Mark is my friend and I only want the best for him"
" Friend? Don't you want to be something more to him? Like a wife?" Mr Peter's said and I almost choked. " Sorry, if I crossed my limit" he added and I forced a smile.
Wife?. That was one of the impossible thing that could ever happen. A fairy is not allowed to mingle with humans.
" I am so happy today, so I will be sending a present later to you and Mark. "
"Thank you sir" I exclaimed, excitedly.
I love presents! I love gifts. Maybe he wants to give us a lot of money. Or maybe, he wants to get me a lot of beautiful clothes and shoes. Or maybe a car. No. A large house.
"Don't you think the sir is becoming too much? I believe, Dad will be more better" He said, bringing me out of my thoughts.
"Huh? Dad?" I repeated in disbelief.
" Yes..sounds more better" He smiled. " I have always wanted a daughter and I guess I have just gotten one"
I raised my eyebrows. I was told by mum that my dad died four years after my birth, so I never got the chance to know him much or use the word - Dad. I have always wished my dad was still alive.
My mum tried her best to be a mum and dad to us but I have always wanted to see that huge masculine gender that I can hug and cry on his shoulders whenever I feel scared.
Thinking about it, brought tears to my eyes.
"Sorry. did I say something wrong?" He asked, confused.
"No. Not at all. I am so happy that I finally have someone that I can call dad" I sniffed and hugged him.
His broad shoulders felt so comfortable that I would always prefer it over my pillows. I smiled, hoping we remain this way forever.
" You don't have a dad?" Mr Peter asked.
"Yes. He died few years after my birth" I replied as we broke from the hug.
"Sorry for that. My condolences"
"Thank you sir. I mean, Dad" I stuttered and we both burst out laughing.
"Oh! Lest I forget, Mark told me something confusing about his mum death. She was mudered in cold blood and yet nothing was done about it"
He hesitated.
"Sorry.. looks like I am being too inquisitive" I added.
"No you are not" He replied and let out a deep breath. "We all thought she was mudered but after much investigations, the police investigator who was in charge of the case revealed to me that Diana wasn't murdered rather she committed suicide"
" What?"
" They noted that they found poison in her heart and it looks like she had poured the poison in her drink and gulped it all down willingly because there was no mark of violence found on her body"
" Do you believe that?"
" At first I didn't but after going through her belongings, I found a paper where she wrote that she can't believe that the man she had trusted with everything in her could cheat on her. Diana found out that I cheated on her and probably took the poison because she couldn't endure the heartbreak"
" Do you really think that your wife is capable of doing such a thing?"
" I don't think so but circumstances change people you know?"
" And Mark? Why did you not tell him about this?"
" How can I tell him that his mom committed suicide because of me? How can I tell him that I caused his mum's death? He would hate me forever.."
"You are right but I still feel that you should tell him."
" I already hate myself for killing my wife and I will forever bear the guilt but watching my son stare at me with anger and hatred? I don't want that." He sadly replied.
" Okay, if you say so but have you ever thought of hiring a personal investigator to investigate your wife's death again? Who knows? She might not have committed suicide" I suggested.
" No..I don't want to visit the past neither do I want to revive the buried pains and hurt. Just let the sleeping dog lie, I think this will be the best for everyone"
Pheew! Why do I feel that all this was planned? That Mrs Diana never committed suicide? That she was mudered. Judging from the way Dave described his mum, I don't think she will be so chicken hearted to kill herself.
The human world is so creepy and scary.
"You can go back in now, Mark must be worried already. You wouldn't want your soldier to come break my bones right?" He teased.
I giggled and stepped out of the car. " Bye sir" I waved as he zoomed off.
I shook my head in a bid to shake off the sad discussion I just had. I reminded myself about the present Mark's father had promised me. This is what matters and I have to be happy.
I walked into the house smiling only to behold Mark pacing to and fro the large foyer. He hurried over to me as soon as he saw me approaching. "Are you okay? Did he hurt you?"
"No.. I am fine"
He lets out a deep breath of relief. " You look so happy. I just got worried over nothing" He sneered.
Just then, his phone rang. He fished out his phone from his pocket and picked the call. I didn't know who he was discussing but he looked so excited.
"Anna is coming" He announced as soon as he ended the call.
"Anna? You mean the girl that kept on throwing herself on you during the last party we attended."
"Yes she is the one and No, she never threw herself at me, she is just a friend" Mark snapped.
Whatever! Friend my cute foot. No matter how nice that lady appears to be, I can still feel negative energy around her. I don't just like her and I hope Mark sees through her thick skin.
"Yeeey! I am so excited our lovely Anna is coming over" I said with sarcasm dripping from every word.
"No, you are not" Mark said, stating the obvious.
"Was it so obvious? I am glad you know" I rolled my eyes.
"What is your problem with her?" He shook his head, heading towards the stairs and I just followed suit, totally ignoring his annoying question.
