Chapter Nineteen

3009 Words
Milly had spent alot of her time in the past year trying to get over James, she thought she was close to being ok again, then she had seen him and the need to hug him took over her, the need to kiss his lips were just as overpowering, she had to busy herself with Jake in order to stop thinking of it. Most of her first nights for a few months after he had left were spent crying alone in her bed, she didnt want to have to bug her friends about holding her while she cried, so she did so alone. When the crying stopped the hate for the man started, really the hate for any man except her bestfriend, she would snap at the drunk boys and men in the bar if they tried to pick her up or tried to slap her ass, she wouldnt have none of that s**t. After the hate came and went it was just plain loneliness and longing she felt, that was probably the worst of it. Looking in her mirror the next morning she observed her face, Her pixie cut had grown out fast and she had it trimed up to a bob cut, her hair was still blond, she never thought about changing the color until now, she would have to talk to October about it. The only time she bothered with makeup was when she went to work. Today she pinned her hair back, keeping it out of her face as much as she could for her work out, she liked the fact that she could hold her own, her parents had signed her up for defense classes as a teen, since then she worked out everyday, not caring what she ate everyday she just worked harder to keep her muscular apperence. She loved the look of her body and always had, she had medium breasts a c cup, she was around 5'4 her face, despite being a blond, was tanner than normal and she had brown eyes instead of blue, and if you looked closely there were green flecks in her pupils. She walked back out to her room and put on her yoga capris and a work out sports bra, not caring if her skin was showing she was about to work up a sweat, she grabbed some socks and her tennis shoes and walked to her bed to put them on, after doing that she stretched, bending forward she brought one leg up behind her and held it for about a minute then repeating the other side, then she did her twist and arm stretches, she had missed the work out yesterday due to Jake wanting to hang out bright and  early in the am. She smiled thinking about the little man. After she was done stretching she put her ear buds in and secured her phone in her arm holder, she would run the long way to the gym, she thought, listening to some Sam Smith, her favorite, she headed out for her run. After a few hours she was spent and running back home the short rout, she had made it a hard one today with her work out stretching out her boundries to work up the good sweat to burn the callories from the missed day before. When she arrived home she went strait to the shower stripping as soon as she closed her front door. Milly didnt live by the sea front, not that she didnt find it captivating, she just liked the woods more and that is where she lived in the dead center in her little cabin. Ok maybe not the dead center she was still in town she just had alot of the forrest around her house as well. That is what she liked, she was more secluded and away from people, not that she minded the people in this town but she wanted her privacy as well. After her glorious shower she got dressed thinking of what she would wear tonight and setting her skirt and tank to the side, it was getting warmer outside again and she knew after he show tonight she would sweat. Most people thought she was just a waitress at the Brothers Bar she co-owned, she wasnt ever so often when nobody would expect it she would sit at the stage with or with out the band it based on her mood for music that day, and she would sing.  She loved to sing and did so any chance she got but so few people in this town knew she was good at it, and she liked to surprise people, she also knew that October didnt know she could sing and she was going to tell her when she stopped there after her store run, she was going to be drastic and dye her hair. Getting in her small truck she drove to the barber shop to do just that, she walked into the door and the woman, Sally, smiled at her, she was by far a regular. "What can i get you today Milly?" she asked her. Milly smiled nervously. "Well, i want you to die my hair." she said wiping her sweating palms on her shorts. Sally stared at her, "What? you want i t died?" she asked in shock. Milly laughed and walked over to the chair she always used and sat down, "Yes i want it dark brown." she said to her friend. Sally blew air out of her mouth, "Alright it'll take about an hour it'll be about 150.00." she told her. Milly shrugged, "You know money isnt a problem with me." she said and they got to it, an and a half later her hair was now a dark brown with natural looking highlights and she loved it, a new Milly, she said to herself and giggled. She paid and thanked her friend and set off to Octobers house, When she walked in the house was in chaos. Wyatt was running around screaming and throwing toys and October was in the living room crying. she ran up to her, "What the hell is wrong?" she asked her. October sobbed, "He wont settle down!" she said and blew her nose. Milly rolled her eyes, this woman was so emotional these days, then she got up and hollered to her godson, "HEY Wyatt James get your ass over here!" she demanded with a loud voice. All noise ceaced and he came to his aunt looking up at her with his thumb in her mouth, "You little man need to calm down and help mommy pick this train wreck." she demanded. He just stared at her shocked because she never yelled at him, then he nodded and started picking up his toys, Wyatt was very advanced for his age once he learned to walk he started to run, he couldnt talk much yet just stared at you, studding your face. When he was done as if he knew he stressed out mommy he walked up to her and gave her a sloppy baby kiss making her laugh and hug him.  October looked at Milly, "Thank you-, WHAT THE f**k DID YOU DO TO YOUR HEAD?" she hollered making Milly laugh hard. "I needed a change so i died it what do you think?" she asked her. "It's great i love it and it suits you." she said smiling and running her hand through Milly's hair. After they settled Milly looked at October, "So i have a question for you or a favore, what ever." she stated. October raised an eye brow, "Of corse, whats up." she asked her. "Well we work tonight it being the weekend, i was wondering if you could find a babysitter, if you cold come watch me sing." she asked her. Milly laughed when another shocked looked came to her friends face, "I feel like i dont even know you anymore," she said dramaticly. "Oh calm down woman, so are you going to come?" she asked her friend. "Yes i will, this is exciting, James has a baby sitter who has watched Wyatt before, ill see if she'll watch them both for the evening." she stated. "Sweet! wait, why does James have a babysitter for Jake?" she asked her. October glanced at her, "Well he is going as well to help out a bit i guess, does he know you sing?" she asked a gleam in her eye. Milly's eyes went a bit cold, "He hasnt ever heard me sing, but he knows that i do sometimes." she stated flatly.  "Ok then well I'm going to nap and put him down as well before later." she stated getting up. "Ok love see you tonight." she said and left, today before she went to work she would walk on the beach, she prefered the woods, but everynow and then the sound of the water was soothing and she tented to need it before every show she put on. Milly never thought to leave this town, not when her parents moved after she had moved out and not now even with her ex here to haunt her, this was her home for ever no matter what. Her parents had moved to Portland, not wanting to stay longer than possiple after the death of their friends when Dean was young. she had helped raise them after that and they grew up into fine men, even James, she couldnt fault him that he was a wonderful father and a great man, he just wasnt great for her. So after she had finished college for writing, she had sold her first book and bought her little cabin, after that they moved and she stayed, she would visit them as often as she could. Most of her days were filled with writing and working at the bar. She sometimes would make time for the people she loved. She had a pretty great publisher, not bugging her to hurry up with her book, he let her take her time because it was more of a hobby than a job for her, she just go paid a lot after sending one in to be sold. Today for instance she didnt really want to write, but she had nothing else to do so when she headed home she had made up her mind to do just that. She spent most of the day writing, her book was about a man struggling with the fact that he came out of the army as a handicap not having legs had changed his life, and the woman who helped him through his physical therapy had changed it more. Everyonce in a while she would write a love story, most of the times she was writing suspensful and science fiction novels, she liked those better but she knew her readers loved her romance as well, so she gave it all to them, she even had a book out there that had it all, a few books in a series wrote to the world of mythical creatures and the humans who discover them, that one was her favorite. Before she knew it she looked at the time and it was 6:45 pm and she was due at the bar at 8 pm, jumping up after saving her chapters, she ran to do her hair and make up, startled a little when she saw her new hair in the mirror and laughing at herself. After she was done and made up and she had gotten her outfit on she realized that she hadnt ate all day so grabbing a banana she rushed out and to her truck. it wasnt a far drive but a little farther than the stores and barber shop. As she rushed in Dean said, "Your almost late Millz." he said not looking up. "Sorry got caught up in my book." she said placing her purse behind the bar. "Oh yeah how is that-.." he started until he finally looked at her, his mouth fell open. She rolled her eyes at him, "Oh lord its just a damn die job." she said and walked to clock in. "It looks great on you Millz." he said coming to her and giving her a hug. "Thank you." she said back "You are definatly going to make my brother cream his pants." he said with a laugh. Milly stopped and stared at him, "Not every choice i made is for your damn brother." she stated bitterly. Dean put his hands up. "Sorry." he said and went back to drying cups. She sighed, "No i'm sorry i snapped at you, that wasnt fair." she said to him. "Look Millz, i get it ok, and i also said the wrong thing too soon because im an idiot." he said smiling at her. Milly laughed at him, that laugh died when James came in, "What so funny?" he asked looking at Milly, "Woa, Milly, nice hair." he said to her not taking his eyes off of her, he watched as she licked her lips then turned to leave. "Hey remember 9:30" he hollered after her. She flung up her hand, "I got it." and walked behind the stage. Today she would have a band, she said hello to them all then made her way to the stage and started setting it up. James looked at Dean with confusion, "Isnt that the bands job?" he asked his brother. Dean laughed, "She is the band bro." he said, "Oh thats right you havent heard her voice have you?" he asked him. James shook his head faintly remembering someone once had said she had a voice of an angel. "No not yet, looks like my lucky day, When is your wife coming?" he asked. "I didnt realize she was." he said to his brother. "Yeah Milly asked her to i guess i didnt know why until now but she asked Kendra to watch Wyatt along with Jake." he said to his brother. "Oh ok well sweet i get both my girls tonight." he said. "Dont be greedy." his brother replied. Dean stopped what he was doing and put both hands on the bar, "You f****d up bro, Milly is now all mine to be my bestie yet again." he said sticking his tongue out. "How does your wife put up with you?" he asked his childish brother. October came in right then and heard him so she replied as she walked up behind him, "I suppose the same way you did when you were younger, only i get to f**k him." she said and they both laughed hard at the discusted look on James's face. "I'm done talking to the two of you." he said and walked behind the bar to grab a beer. Then Milly came back and walked right up to October with a smile, "Are you ready for this girl?" she asked her. October smiled, "Oh yes!" she said as more people started to show up and sit down. October got herself a small table that sat up high enough for her to see Milly well on the stage with all the other bodies around. and a little after 9:30 her show began, she came out and sat at a stool on the stage, she started with a calming melody, it was slightly sad, a woman calling out for the love of her life who had passed away and left her alone.  He voice had Octobers heart squeezing with emotions, she was a wonderful singer, when she was able to tear her eyes off of her she looked at her brother in law, his face was a mixture of suprise and pain, his hand was held to his heart, by the way he was looking at Milly she didnt think he knew what his hand was doing, walking over to Dean she told him she was going to have James sit for a bit, to which Dean agreed, she walked over to James and lead him to her table to sit next to her. "Her voice is lovely." October stated. James breathed heavy, "I never knew." he said not taking his eyes off of her. "You love her still?" October asked. James rose his brow as he looked at her, "I never stopped." he said to his new sister. She rubbed his arm, "Why did you do it James?" she asked him. He just shook his head, " I had to leave for Jakes sake." he said. "No, why did you lied to her about your feelings." she said to him. James just sat there looking at his woman and thinking, "I'm not sure, at the time i thought being without her would be better for the both of us, we had just been together for two months and already i was falling for her, i could see she was falling for me, i guess a part of me panicked because of what Jakes mother did, i know Milly isnt like that but i still freaked and i knew she would want to come and at the time i didnt want that i wanted just some space, so when she asked me i lied." he stated. "Your an i***t James." she stated making him look at her, incredible sadness in his eyes, "Tell me what to do, i think i need her, my son needs her." he said to his sister. October sighed, "I cant say for sure James, she is her own woman, she is so different from me, i gave so easily to your brother. What i can say is just keep trying." she told him, to which he nodded to. The song changed to another sad one, this one being of having loved and having it taken away, she was really the most perfect woman, James thought to himself, he thought about having a bbq soon and having her come along saying Jake wanted her there, maybe then he could talk to her, he would just have to see.
