Chapter 23 Errand Fee

1407 Words
When Daisy was brought upstairs, she saw Kadir and Marlow chatting happily like a pair of brothers who hadn’t seen each other for years. At the sight of Daisy, Kadir walked over and said warmly, “Come here, Miss Lavin. You must be scared…” Seeing him rush over, Daisy was frightened and ran to Marlow’s side, her eyes fixing on Kadir with horror. Marlow was a bad guy too, but compared to the devilish Kadir, he gave her some assurance. Daisy stole a glance at Marlow suspiciously. Marlow smiled at her and said, “Are you mad at me? I’ve told you I have a lot of experience in collecting payments. When you were away, I reasoned with Mr. Foxon and he realized his mistake. Besides, he suddenly remembered that he had already collected payment from one of his customers. So he decided to pay what he owes our company. “ Daisy widened her eyes with disbelief and turned to look at Kadir for confirmation. “Yes, that’s true. After thinking it over, I agree with Daisy. A businessman should keep his word. I am ashamed of myself for my previous behavior. I don’t deserve the trust of your two…” “Okay. Enough. Just transfer the payment to our account. Daisy and I are very busy. We don’t have time to waste here.” Marlow waved his hand impatiently to cut him off. He knew how brazen this Foxon could be. If he allowed him to go on talking, he would talk until the next morning. “Sure, sure, the money.” Kadir took out his cell phone and started to transfer the payment. After it was done, he showed his cell phone to Daisy and said, “Miss Lavin, look at this. I’ve transferred two million to your company’s account. Please be assured.” ‘That’s it? We collected the payment so easily?’ Daisy dared not believe it. She turned to look at Marlow puzzled. Marlow said with a smile, “Yes, Daisy. Mr. Foxon is trustworthy. He will not cheat us.” “Yes, honesty is my business policy,” echoed Kadir. Daisy was such an innocent girl that she didn’t even know how to save Kadir’s face. She watched Kadir with disbelief for a while and then she took out her cell phone silently. She made a call to the accounting department of Watson. She smiled with satisfaction only after she received expressive confirmation. Then she stood up and bowed to Kadir. “Thank you very much, Mr. Foxon. You know if we haven’t collected the payment, I’ll be fired.” Her pure and unworldly smile took the breath out of Kadir, who had been soaked in this dirty sea of gangsters for years and whose heart was covered with a layer of callus. He thought of the boy who just went to primary school and ran all his way back home to his mother after school. He thought of the once untainted teenager… Well, it was too far away and it takes too much time to narrate in this story. Marlow waved his hand to cut off Kadir’s reminiscence and stood up. “All right. It’s all done. I have to thank you for your understanding and cooperation, Mr. Foxon. See you around.” “Wait a minute. There is one more thing.” Kadir snapped back from his memory and pulled out the drawer hurriedly. He took out twenty thousand dollars in cash and ran to catch them up. “Miss Lavin,” said Kadir sincerely, “This is a little gift for you. It’s hard for you to run over here. I apologize.” Though Daisy was really in need of money, she refused hurriedly. “No, no, thank you, Mr. Foxon. I’m grateful that you’ve made the payment to our company. I didn’t expect it could be done when I came here.” Her words gave a brush of redness on Kadir’s thick-skinned face. He handed the money further to Daisy and said, “Please, Miss Lavin, take it. If you hadn’t given me that lecture, I wouldn’t have known my mistake. You made me a better person. From now on, I’ll…” He had to give it to Daisy. Before Daisy came upstairs, he had agreed with Marlow. Marlow said he either gave Daisy twenty thousand dollars for running the errand or seventy-five thousand dollars to Marlow himself for the appearance fee. He wasn’t an i***t. Of course he picked the first option. Marlow didn’t wait until he finished his words and snatched the money from him. “Did you get rich from pyramid selling? You have so much to say for a matter as petty as the pinpoint. I thank you on behalf of Daisy.” After he said that, he grabbed Daisy’s arm and dragged her towards the door. When they were walking on the street, Daisy was still in a daze. She asked dreamingly, “Did that really happen? Really?” Marlow messed her hair and said, “Daisy, you’ve asked numerous times. Of course it happened. I told you before we came that they would make the payment when they saw you, as you are so adorable.” “Don’t lie to me. It’s you who made them pay, Marlow. But how did you make them agree to pay? Why did Mr. Foxon suddenly change his mind?” persisted Daisy. “Didn’t he tell you? He was touched by your lecture. Take this money. It’s the tuition he paid to you.” Marlow handed her the money. Daisy put her hands behind and said with determination, “No, I won’t take it. It’s you who made them pay. I have done nothing. I am glad enough that I won’t lose my job.” Marlow didn’t force her and put the money into his pocket. He took out his cell phone and said, “What is your phone number? Let me add you on w******p so that we can chat sometimes.” “Great!” Daisy said and took out her cell phone too, “My number is…” After they added each other, Daisy said happily, “You are my first male friend. Oh, no, my father is the first, you are the second.” As she was playing with her cell phone excitedly, she received a text message. It was from the bank. Somebody transferred twenty thousand dollars to her account. She looked at Marlow with puzzlement. “Did you transfer twenty thousand dollars to me, Marlow? How did you know my bank account?” “I have the means to know if I want to know. Listen, take the money. Your mother is sick. She needs that money.” “Marlow…” Daisy threw herself into Marlow’s arms with tears and she was choked and couldn’t speak anymore. … “f**k! What the hell company is that? It’s a gang! I will never go to that place anymore!” As soon as they pushed open the office door of the 6th sale team, Marlow protested loudly. Daisy followed him behind and she blushed as she tried to suppress her laugh. It was not easy. So she ran back to her desk quickly. As soon as she sat down, she bent over the desk and buried her face in her arms on the desk. She thought of Marlow’s expression and her shoulders trembled as she laughed silently. Looking at the furious Marlow and Daisy who buried her face in her arms weeping silently, everyone sighed with sympathy. This was the result they had expected. Ned heard Marlow’s complaint from his office too. A smug smile appeared on his face. He adjusted his expression and then strolled out casually from his tiny office. After sweeping his eye around, he said with a domineering tone, “What’s going on? What is the row for?”
