Eliana's POV After leaving Professor Mathews the day I found out he lied about his marriage, I'd taken a cab straight home and locked myself in my room. Climbing into bed, I braced myself for the tears but, surprisingly, they didn't come. The tears that had been threatening to stream out of my eyes minutes earlier had suddenly lost the zeal to fulfill their promise. So I lay in bed, thinking about how stupid I was to have believed Professor Matthews all these while. But he'd been so assuring and comforting that I couldn't have suspected that what he told me was nothing but a big fat lie. “Hi, honey…” The voice rang in my mind continuously and each time I tried to place where I might have heard it, I ended up with a headache that I told myself I deserved for being stupid and gullible.
