Chapter 3

Five Years Later Lucian's POV Elder Liam, one of the pack's older leaders, spoke up quietly. "Alpha Lucian, you have led our pack for five years now. Yet, you still haven't introduced us to your mate, Luna, or given us a future leader." I looked up at him and replied, "I will do that very soon." I was desperately trying to avoid the topic, so I quickly changed the subject. "The construction on our new pack hospital is about to start. How is that project coming along?" But my uncle wouldn't let it go. His voice rang out across the room, "You cannot keep running away from your duties, Alpha Lucian. It has been five whole years, and you still haven't shown us your Luna. If you can't show us your heir as words are having it around the dirty things you do in the dark. step down. “Elders, am I not right? Of what essence is an alpha without his Luna?” My uncle asked the council of elders who were keeping silent. I wanted to ask for more time but I couldn't. I have been giving the same excuses ever since I stepped in as an Alpha, my fate changing from a nobody who had no idea who his father was to an Alpha. “Alpha Lucian, your uncle is right. It is high time you do this. Our pack needs a strong Luna by yourself to continue.” “Elder Liam, Alpha Lucian would still keep making excuses like he had been doing for five years if we don't give him enough time”. “If he can't bring forward a Luna or accept a chosen one presented by the council, he would have to step down.” My fist tightened around the edge of the chair, staring at my uncle who now had everyone’s attention. “Alpha Lucian, you would have to do as Elder Liam suggested. This pack needs a strong Luna and an Alpha prince,” Elder Smith concluded, others nodding in acceptance of the words. After we got to the mansion, I got out of the car before heading to my room, those words from the meeting echoing in my head. “Alpha Lucian, you are back?”. Beta Joe’s voice echoed the moment I stepped into my room. He had his palm on the image I drew. It was the image of the lady I can’t get out of my head. Every night, when I close my eyes, the memory of the best night of my life replayed. I have nothing to identify her except her scent and her look which I drew on this paper. “Were you able to find her?” I repeated the same question I have asked my Beta for almost five years. With the deadline of providing a Luna, I have to find her. I want no one else as my Luna except her. “Alpha Lucian, it’s been five years,” Beta Joe’s voice faded. “We have been looking for this nameless woman for years after seeing her.” We have searched every gala hosted year by year. We have searched parties, companies and even attended events. “Are you even sure this woman exists?” I tightened my fist at my Beta’s question, trying hard not to punch him. I remembered everything, even though it's been five years, it felt like last week. Iris did not just only reject me on her birthday when I confessed my feelings, she made a mockery of me and of my situation then. All it took for me to feel alive again was an encounter with that woman. She might have a rough face and look chubby but I felt an irresistible pull towards her. When I moved closer to her, something changed. She made the first move and that was all it took for that night to become unforgettable to me. The words we said, the sound of our moans and slapping skin. “She exists! She—” words failed to describe how I was feeling. How much I wanted to look at that woman again. “Alpha Lucian, you are obsessing over this woman and I think you need to stop,” my Beta’s words snapped me out of my thoughts. “There are beautiful women you can take as your chosen Luna if you don't find your mate between the deadline set by the council.” With how smart he was and how he always stays updated with everything, yet couldn't find this woman for five years made me want to knock that brain out. Before I could talk about expanding the search, my beta’s phone rang. “Alpha, I am sorry, I need to pick this call,” he walked to the corner of my room, his phone placed on his ears. After a few minutes, Beta Joe walked back to me. “A woman similar to the woman you drew was found. Her name is Lyra” “Get every information about her! Do not leave out any details, not even the slightest!” I instructed”.
