Chapter 3

present day

When I woke up in a dark room, I looked around to see if I could find anything that told me where I was. But the room was too dark to tell where I was. The last thing I remember is some girl that I didn’t know saying she wanted me to die as she threw a dagger at me. I remember thinking that I was going to die and that I would never get a chance to see my family or Max again. I cry softly as I think about everything that happened and wonder where I am. I can hear voices, but I can’t make out what they are saying. I slowly get out of bed and wince as pain shoots through my stomach. I breath through the pain as I walk to the door and slowly open it. I can hear voices coming from the streets below. I look around to see if I can find anything that will tell me where I am at. As I look around, I see a photo hanging on the wall, and I see that there are two boys and a woman in the picture. I look at the two boys and gasp when I see that one of them looks just like Max. I keep walking till I get to the top of the landing and look down. I can hear the voices louder now, but I still can’t make out what they are saying. I hear Max’s voice and look around for him. "Yo bro, where are you going?" One of the voices calls out as I hear someone walking towards where I am standing. "I am going to check on Lilly. I know she is healed, but I am worried because she hasn’t woken up yet. " I start to slowly walk down the stairs, being as quiet as I can be so no one will hear me. Someone laughs as I hear a voice that sounds like Max but isn't.Ya bro? I know what you mean, but you can’t keep checking on her every 3 minutes. " I giggle softly to myself as I keep walking. Yall, what can I say? I love her and you know that. " I stop cold when I hear Max say that he loves me. Does he mean he loves me as a friend or as more than a friend? I think about the time I met Max 3 years ago.

3 years earlier,

I listen as Autumn, my best friend since we were kids, goes on about some new guy at our school. I am not really listening to her because I don’t really care about the guys at this school. Autumn is the only thing all the guys at our school talk about. Autumn is like a super hot day. She has fiery red hair and ice blue eyes. But I think what all the guys like is that she has an hour-glass shape and she doesn’t hide it. I never really understood why she always wears clothes that are so tight that they look like they have been painted on. No guy will ever want to be with a girl like me. I have long blue hair, and yes, before you ask, that is my real hair color. My eyes are gold, but nothing special. I don’t have an hourglass figure like my friend. I hate the way my body looks. I am not fat, but I am not too thin either. I always wear clothes that are a little too big on me. I look at Autumn and laugh when she sees what I am wearing. Lilly, I thought you said you were going to wear something girly. I shake my head. This has been the same fight since we met. Autumn and I live right next door to each other. I will tomorrow, I promise. She smiles even though she knows it's never going to happen. I walk away from her, heading to my first class, when someone runs right into me. I look up, about to yell at the asshole who thinks it's OK to not watch where they are walking. My words die in my mouth before I say anything. The guy that ran into me must be new because I haven’t seen him before. As I look at him, I notice myself blushing; he is about 2 feet taller than me, which isn't much since everyone is taller than me.I am only 5 feet. He has light blue eyes and blond hair. "Sorry," he says as he looks at me.

present day

I am snapped out of the memory by the sound of someone walking closer to the stairwells. I walk the rest of the way down the stairs and come face-to-chest with a guy that I don’t know. I jumped, and the fast movement caused pain to shoot all the way through my stomach, and I doubled over in pain. Oh f**k, I am sorry. I didn’t mean to scare you, "the guy that I don’t know says. "Max, your girl is awake and I think she is in pain." I hear footsteps come running to where I am at."f**k Logan, what did you do?" The question comes from another guy that I don’t know. I didn’t do anything. She was coming down the stairs just as I was about to go up them. I think I scared her. " I look up and see two guys looking at me. One has black hair with red streaks running through it, while the other one has blond hair that looks like Max’s. Max, is that you? I asked the guy that looks like Max. Logan burst out laughing as he looked at the Max impersonator. "Dude, she just called you by your brother's name." The guy that isn’t max looks at me like I hurt him by saying that. "No Lilly, my name is Lucifer. I am Max’s twin brother. " I stared at him in shock for a minute. "Max doesn’t have any siblings." I tell him I have a shaky voice.
