Olivia's office usually organize an advertisement training annually for their staffs for two days. it was always a great opportunity to learn new skills and share experiences with other practirionals in the field. this year wasn't an exception, she was always on this list since she was good and very well known in the field.
by the end of the workshop, Oli had stollen the show by attracting everyone's attention and entertaining them with stories of her encounter with difficult clients. now that lunch was announced she knew that is was her chance to network and find out what company was handling whose account and whose company was competing. there was a bling queue at the buffet and few perticipant were attracted to her despite the big wedding band on her finger which she wore to scare me off. sudden her phone rang, it was Jason. she stared at the phone wondering what to do. he called again and she decided to take the calls "hi" she said. "hi, how have you been"? he sounded really cheery. "can I call you back"? she felt a knot tighten in her stomach.
he sounded disappointed. "oh, ok. I was just calling to say hi". she picked up her plate of food and made her way to the delegate she had tagged as important during the session.if she could soak up some important information then she could get Jason and the havock his voice was causing in her stomach off her mind.
that night while curled up in her sofa watching a movie, she found herself dialing Jason's number. she told herself that it was because she movie was boring and not because he seems to have taken a residence in the corner of her mind since that awkward date two weeks ago.
"hey you" he said when he picked up the phone. his voice was soft like a warm honey poured into a bowl of milk."hey, just got in and thought I should return your call," she lied " I was at a business meeting when you called earlier."
" I figured. no. not that one, the other one" He had company. "sorry Olivia"
he was distracted. there was a long silence the background so she sighed to remind him that she was still on the phone. " would you please hold for a bit Olivia"? he hadn't even waited for her response before he continued. " I meant that boxes. no,not those ones. did you call the technician? where is Bob?" his voice was clear,he sounded like someone who really knows what he was doing. "you carry on with those, and please i don't want you to skip over anything". then she heard some movements and the door closing. then it went quite again. "hello? I'm so sorry, was trying to sort out somethings. how did the seminar go"?. it sounded like he had eased deeply into a chair. " how did you know......?"
" your status update always catch my eye"
" or maybe you are just a nosy fellow"
he broke into a laugh. she loved the sound of it
" yeah, I am. what's up with you, what are your plans for the weekend"?
"oh, because I called you?" " oh, wait" the line went off and a few seconds later he called back. " now we are running on my tariff babe.". he said. she laughed at that and he joined her. " but on a serious not, can I take you out tomorrow? not dinner or lunch, your entire Saturday?" spend my entire Saturday with you? is not like I know you or something"
"well, I didn't kidnap you the last time we had dinner, did I?" he said teasingly. c'mon Olivia, friends hang out all the time. friends, yeah right, so we had dinner once, and called once afterwards and suddenly we are friends? she had planned to go to the national theater to see a show with her friend Stephanie. but her friend seems uninterested as she is seeing a new guy. it will be satisfying if she could beat Steph in cancelling the arrangement. " I'll understand if your day is occupied" he said solemnly. " no, it's fine" she said quickly. if she could get some quite time with him it will be easy to break in to him that he had to get her off his mind. she wondered if he had been thinking about their kiss (and more) as much as she had. it would be easier now that their brain is acting on rational thoughts. " awesome, I don't have your address, will you please send it"?
can't we just meet you somewhere? is meeting at my flat a reasonable idea? "Alright, I'll send it" she heard herself say, dismissing her thought. " what time tomorrow"? he sounded excited. " what time tomorrow? we have the whole day so let's start early so we can enjoy every bit of it, is 10am good?"
"sure" she replied dryly."tomorrow then, bye."
you can never go wrong with jeans Oli thought. her turquoise satin blouse was perfect. she looked good.she had taken off her weaves and deep_conditioned, which left her hair soft, light and shiny. she slipped on a hair band to hold her hair off her face . she didn't want any hindrances, nor did she want him asking her about the hair clip which was in the wastebin in her room. she slipped her feet into a four_inch platforms, which put her comfortably on five foot nine. she smiled. giving herself an approving wink in the mirror. then she glanced at her wristwatch. she wasn't going to be late this time. this time she had just the right plan. if things goes wrong she would say she has a headache and beg him to bring her back home. then she would give him the speech of the day ending all further contact between them. her phone beeped, it was him. she sighed.
"hello" she said. "I'm at he gate, is it okay if I come in?" "I'll meet you outside" she picked up her bag and stepped out into the porch and then locked the door. she saw him at a distance and raised her eyebrow. he was turned away from her but even from the back she could tell that he was dressed to impress. he had rolled up his sleeve to his beige cotton shirt to his elbow, which was tucked neatly into a brown slacks. he had an impressive physigue. strong and mascular, long legs and a firm , round butt . she started walking towards him and he turned and cought sight of her, his face lit up. he walked towards her with confidence. he was wearing brown suede loafers to complete his looks. she wondered who had taught him to dress so well.as he approach his eyes cought hers, slid to her lips and down the opening of her blouse. her body tingled at his lingering regard and she looked away in embarrassment." you look beautiful" he said as his voice came out husky and strained.he envelope her in a hug. for a moment. for a brief moment, she considered the thought of just remaining there. " thank you" she managed to say as she pulled out of his arms. " you look ... nice too" come on Oli is that all you can say?
he put his hand around her shoulder and urge her on. the car they were walking to was parked in front of her flat to the left of the gate. it was a red BMW in a very good shape. it was different from the one he had been driving from their previous date. this one look really new and pricey. talk about trying to impress.. the real owner was a friend, a senior colleague in the mechanic world or his boss.
" have you had breakfast?" he asked, interrupting her train of thought. she nodded. " well, I worked through the night so I need some food". when they have secured their seat belt he drove out of her street towards the shopping mall. " what kind of work were you doing?" she said. was he working on a car or truck, making all those irritating noise all through the night? he smiled. " there is more to mechanic than just hitting metals". "really"? "yes, really". I'm glad managed to finish before now though. she shook her head. is this really what I want??
he pulled up to an empty space and turned off the ignition. " how about we see a movie, have lunch and see another movie?" he said smiling. " or we can just sit and talk- anything that'll keep you by my side"
"ok". she tried to look excited.
he kissed her lightly on her forehead. " let's start the day" he stepped out of the car and she did too. with his hand around her shoulder, he guided her down the main aisle of the mall.
" can we have a cup of coffee over there while you choose a movie?" he pointed to the cafe.
she nodded
he smiled.
