Every year on her birthday, Nia receives the same phone call.

the voice, always the same

"I'm sorry."

Then the line goes dead.

She was curious at first, but then she ignored it, believing it was a cruel prank.

Year after year, June after June. The caller always finds ways to reach her—only to whisper the same apology as before.

She couldn't care less; after all, her parents were bloody rich, and she was their untouchable little princess.

Or so she thought.

Everything stayed the same... Until her seventeenth birthday. This time the caller said something different.

"They lied to you, Emma."

Her heart drops as she begins to question a lot of things in her life. "Who lied to me?" "Who is Emma?" "Why does he know me?"

That was when she decided to question a lot of things. The birth certificate she has never seen, the silver necklace, her boyfriend's strange behavior and closeness with the parents, the hidden doors, and the secrets everyone is seemingly determined to hide from her.

She knew something was off; she knew she couldn't just let this off the hook.

Old photographs don't look the way she remembers. Her so-called perfect boyfriend, whom she trusts to help her find all the truths, seems to be hiding something. And a forgotten childhood memory lingers just beyond her reach, refusing to stay buried.

The more she questions her life, her family, and her entire existence, the more dangerous the answers become.

Caught between believing her loyal best friend; her boyfriend, whom she so desperately wants to trust; and a truth powerful people will do anything to keep buried.

She must keep her friends close and her enemies closer.

Some secrets are better left unknown.

Will she find the truth? And even when she does, will she live long enough to dig out what's left of it?

Find out...

Glimpse of the past
"emma, run!" She said as her voice tore through the storm, rain lashing against our skin. "I tried desperately to run. Tiny feets, feeble legs." "Tears welling up in my eyes." She held my hands tightly. voices. shadows. Eyes. "I could feel their stare, so close it was creeping through my skin, getting closer with every breath." I didn't understand what was going on or who was holding my hands. I try hard to get a view of her face. With every attempt, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't see her face. "Keep running!" she cried, her voice overwhelmed with desperation and a hint of fear. I looked up at her again. I wanted to see her face. I needed to see her face. i tried. But once again...... I couldn't. I could feel the fear emanating through her body and told me everything words couldn't She wasn't afraid for herself. She was afraid for me. Like a precious treasure, like a treasured family heirloom past down through generations, like a promise you made during the toughest days. I knew her, it felt like I did, my heart told me I did. "But do I?" I asked myself, delusionally praying the answers would come. I shouldn't have tho........ I regret what came after. "Boom!". A deafening c***k split through the air. Leaving a whistling sensation ringing in my ears. I look back........ fire! Before I could do anything else. I heard them again...... voices. This time louder, speaking in a language I didn't know. Then suddenly we stopped running......" Emma," she whispers, this time squeezing my hand. "Don't let go." She knew time was not on our side. She looked at me, at least it felt that way. The rain blurred every feature, and the shadows seemed to engulf the rest. It was as though my mind refused to let me get a glimpse. "I love you," she said, as she slipped a silver necklace into my hand. The chills from the cold necklace spread through my body. The shadows surged forward, this time visible. I screamed. The necklace slipped from my hand. Someone grabbed my arm. "mum!" She reached for me. I reached for her. But our fingers never touched. The storm slowly swallowed her screams. and then......... darkness. My eyes flew open. Tears filled the pillow, my heart pounding violently against my ribs, gasping for air. For what felt like forever, I stared into empty space.....trying to make sense of what I saw. The dream. again. The same dream. the same storm. The same terrifying feeling that I had lost something. "Emma!" I screamed loudly......" Who is Emma?" Questions I had no answer to. The words still rung in my head. I squeezed my eyes shut, trying to grasp what was left of the details before they disappeared. But.....just like always. It slipped. "Emma?" That's all I was left with. The dream felt too real. almost like a memory. "Who was Emma?" And why did the name feel so familiar, leaving me with a sad demeanor. i swallowed hard. I didn't know it yet, but that name was going to change a lot.
