Avon's POV
I let out a deep breath when Elizabeth shut the door close. No matter how curious I am to listen to their conversation I stopped myself because it was a family matter.
It was almost six when I left the Foster mansion and when I arrived home I saw my brother sitting on our couch.
"Jameson?" I called his name and when he heard my voice he immediately lift his head.
"Avon," he uttered and his voice sounded so happy. Jameson walked towards me and enveloped me in a tight hug.
"Where have you gone?" I asked then broke off the hug and looked at his face intently. Yes, I am mad at him but I can't erase the fact that he is my brother and I still care for him.
"I just took a break from everything," he uttered.
"Without telling us? You disappeared for a month. You made our parents worried sick and now you are telling me that you just took a break from everything? You should have informed us first before making a stupid decision," I uttered and my voice broke when I said the last words.
I punched his chest but Jameson just laugh at me and pulled me into a tight hug again.
"I am shouldering all your responsibilities," I uttered as I cry into her chest. I felt Jameson kissing the top of my head.
"I'm sorry Avon," he uttered as he caressed my back and tightened his hug.
Jameson always treats me well and he is willing to do everything just so I could do all the things that I wanted.
When my father told me that I can't do modeling since I have to help in managing our company Jameson shouldered everything and gave me the freedom to pursue my dream. He always supports me and he never leaves my side which made me think that his disappearance had a deeper reason and not just a mere break.
"What happened to you, Jameson?" I asked not letting go of our conversation.
Jameson broke off the hug and then looked at me intently.
"I took a break Avon," he uttered but I can feel that he is hiding something from me.
Before I could even question his answer my mother showed up with a huge smile plastered on her face.
"Avon where have you gone?" she asked but she doesn't sound worried.
"I talked with Forter's Mom," I responded which made my mother's forehead crease.
"I can get our company back," I uttered. My mother looked at me intently.
" In what condition Avon?" she asked and she looked too serious which scares me.
"I signed a contract," I swallowed hard before continuing my words.
"I will be Jeremiah Forter's wife for 547 days," my mother looked at me with a creased forehead.
"Jeremiah Forter?!" Jameson butted in with fear in his voice.
"Are you insane Avon? I heard that that man will be paralyzed for the rest of his life. What if this is just a trapped and they tricked you so that someone would take care of their son once they are gone? You tied yourself into an impotent man Avon," my mother uttered and she became hysterical. I know she is worried for me but I didn't like it when she called Jeremiah impotent. We don't know him too well to label him like that.
"Jeremiah Forter still stands a chance Mom. I heard that he will be able to walk in 18 months or 547 days but while waiting for his improvement he needed some company. A person that he can rely on aside from his parents. If I made Jeremiah Forter fall in love with life again then we can get our company back. Besides, 547 days will pass quickly," I explained to make them understand my point.
"What if you failed Avon? You will waste a year helping that man?" my mother asked disagreeing with my idea.
I reached for her hand and squeezed it. I looked at her intently then gave her an assuring smile.
"You know me, Mom, I get everything that I want no matter what it takes. I will get Lauder's Corporation back," I uttered full of confidence.
"You are putting yourself at risk Avon," Jameson uttered so I turned my head on him.
"Do we have a choice?" I asked which made his mouth shut.
"If you can watch Dad slowly kill himself then I am not like you, Jameson. I am not a perfect daughter but I am willing to risk everything just to save this family," I uttered. I saw how Jameson's jaw clenched. I didn't wait for their response. I walked out because hearing their words makes me feel that I had my greatest downfall.
Seeing pity in their eyes reminds me of how miserable my life has become. I never imagined myself to end up like this but here I am swallowing my pride and selling myself off just to save our family's name.
I wipe my tears then headed towards my car and drove towards Forter's mansion. Elizabeth Forter advised me to stay at their mansion so I can look after Jeremiah.
I want to be selfish and run away but whenever I think of that my father's face always crosses my mind which hinders me from choosing myself and my freedom.
After an hour of driving, I arrived at Forter's mansion. I let out a deep breath before stepping foot inside their home.
Before I could even reach the living I heard Jeremiah's voice he sounded mad so I continued walking to hear the conversation. I know it is bad to eavesdrop but I can't help it.
"Leave Ashley," I heard Jeremiah's cold voice and even though those words weren't for me I still feel chills hearing how cold he sounded.
"Tell me what happened first, Jeremiah. How come you are already married to someone?" hearing that question arouses my curiosity even more.
"It is my mother's idea Ashley," Jeremiah responded not wanting to elaborate on the details.
"Then you should've stopped her. You should've told her about me," the woman insisted.
"You are just a fling Ashley stop acting as if we are in a serious relationship," hearing that word made me want to butt in and slapped Jeremiah's face but I have no right to do that.
After a few seconds, I heard sobs and after a while, a woman walked out but before she completely leaves the place her eyes landed on me, and without any notice, she slapped my face, hard.
"w***e!" she shouted full of anger then left the mansion with tears cascading down her face.
My mouth is hanging open when I turned my head to Jeremiah. I thought his eyes are on me but it was fixated on the door where Ashley stepped out.
I saw his desire to stop her from leaving but he didn't utter any words and watched the woman walk away.
"You should've stopped her," I suggested but he just let out a sarcastic laugh.
"And then what tie her on me?" he sarcastically asked and I am lost for words to answer his question.
"So you love her?" I asked.
"That's not your business Avon," he firmly uttered.
"It's my business because you are my husband, do you love her?" I asked with the same intensity, which made his jaw clench probably losing his patience.
Even though he didn't answer me with words I can tell how much he loves her. He loves Ashley too much to the point he is willing to let her go because Jeremiah thinks that if he tied Ashley to him then the woman's life would be miserable.
"She deserves someone better than me," he uttered then turned his wheelchair around.
He didn't answer my question directly but the way he responded is much heavier than a simple yes and I wonder how does it feel to be love like that?
How does it feel to be love by Jeremiah Forter?
Jeremiah's POV
I smiled bitterly when I remembered Avon's question. I want to answer yes but I feel like I have no right to say that word.
Ashley deserves a better man someone who can give him everything that she wanted not a man who is stuck in a wheelchair.
I want to take a rest but I guess I can't do that because after a while I received a call. I pressed the button attached to my wheelchair that is connected to my phone to answer the call.
"Yes, Dad?" I asked anticipating my father's next words.
"We have a big problem, Jeremiah. The investors are pulling out their investments," he uttered and his voice sounded so worried
so I turned my wheelchair around and headed toward the living room.
"You can drive right?" I asked Avon who is sitting on the couch. She looked at me confused but after a while, she nod her head.
"Why?" she asked.
"I need to go to the company," I responded.
"It's already late," she uttered.
"I know the time Avon," I sarcastically responded. Avon let out a deep breath maybe to calm herself then stood up and walk behind me. She held the handle of my wheelchair and then gently pushed me until we reached the parking lot.
My parents designed a car that fits my wheelchair so I didn't have a hard time getting in.
Avon started driving and when we reached the company she helped me get off and pushed my wheelchair until we reached the meeting room.
When we entered the room all eyes are directed at us but it didn't even make me nervous. I heard murmurs they are probably talking about my condition.
"Give me the list of names of those investors who want to pull out their investments I will process it as soon as possible," I coldly uttered purposely making them hear my every word.
"Yes Sir," my secretary responded.
After a while, I heard a sarcastic laugh coming from Mr.Lim.
"You already looked like that but you are still arrogant Mr. Foster," he uttered using my condition to insult me but I didn't give him the satisfaction.
I smiled at him and then shook my head.
"I ended up like this but that won't change the fact that I am still the owner of this corporation. Insult me all you want Mr. Lim, your words don't matter anyways," after saying those words I saw how his face turned red because of anger.
When I am done I turned around but before completely leave the room I spoke.
"Expect the money on your account tomorrow morning," I uttered then leave the room with Avon on my side.
"You look cool back then," she commented which made me laugh.
"Thank you," I uttered genuinely.
"You are welcome Jeremiah," she responded.
I guess having someone on your side isn't a bad idea at all.
