Avon's POV After almost an hour of driving, we arrived at the venue where the racing competition will take place. I thought we will be late but I am glad that when we arrived it is just about to start. "Excuse me," I uttered as I carefully pushed Jeremiah's wheelchair. It took us a while to find a spot since I looking for a spot where we can have the best view of the race track. "Do you want me to buy something else?" I asked Jeremiah. "Just water," he responded so I nod my head. "I will be fast I promise," I uttered then turned my head to the old man sitting beside us. "Can you look after him for a while?" I politely asked and when the old man nodded his head I flashed a huge smile. "I'm fine Avon," Jeremiah uttered a bit irritated when he heard me ask for a favor. I turned around and looked at Jeremiah. His forehead was creased irritated on me again. "I just want to feel at ease," I reasoned then leave because if I stay a bit longer another argument will happen. I headed towards the food stall and then bought two bottles of water and chips. When I am done paying I walked back to the spot where I left Jeremiah and as I got nearer I saw him surrounded by people his age Ashley is even there with a man holding her waist. My steps became faster afraid that he might feel uncomfortable being surrounded by people. "Hi!" I greeted them so their attention was turned to me. "What did I miss?" I asked and looked at each of them. "So you must be the wife?" a man asked so I nod my head with hesitation. "Adamson," the man uttered then extended his hand and I have no choice but to take it since I don't want to appear rude. "Avon," I responded then smiled at him. "Patrick," the man behind Adamson introduced himself so I nod my head and we did a handshake. "Lewis," the man who is holding Ashley's waist uttered so I nod my head and we did hands as well. After that short introduction, I sat beside Jeremiah's wheelchair and when I got closer I saw his fist tightly closed so without even thinking I held it and caressed it softly. I leaned closer and then whispered something in his ear. "Are you okay?" I asked but he didn't respond and when I looked at his face I can tell that he is uncomfortable. "Do you want to leave?" I carefully asked. "No," he firmly responded so I nod my head and decided to focus my eyes on the front. "Yes, man get it!" Adamson shouted getting hyped up by the racing competition. I can't understand a thing all I can see are cars speeding up. "Who do you think will win?" I asked Jeremiah trying to create a simple conversation. "Leonardo," Jeremiah responded which made me confused who is Leonardo? "Who's Leonardo?" I asked then focused my eyes on the race track. "The red one," Jeremiah responded so I nod my head. "You used to compete before?" I asked. "Yeah but he never once win against me," he proudly uttered which made me smile. "If Jeremiah can still race Leonardo must be eating dust by now," Lewis commented and it was followed by laughter. "Lucky Leonardo, Jeremiah can't race anymore," Lewis added and his comment sounded off to me so I can't help but butt in. "What do you mean by that Lewis?" I asked a bit pissed because even though he isn't talking about me I feel offended. "Huh?" he asked back as if he isn't aware of what I am talking about. "Jeremiah can still do racing he just needs some time to recover," I uttered. Lewis looked at me with a creased forehead then after a while, he let out a loud laugh as if I said something funny. "Avon you have to accept the fact that Jeremiah's case is hopeless unless some sort of miracle happens," he responded, and upon hearing his words I wanted to punch him directly in his face. "Lewis," Adamson warned, Jeremiah on the other hand remained quiet. "What? I'm just stating the fact," he reasoned out as if his words doesn't sound offensive. He is being insensitive is he aware of that fact? "Stop making a big deal out of it Avon. Just shut up will you? You are ruining everything," Patricia butted in and I can sense bitterness in her voice. How can she take Lewis's side and treat this matter as if it is nothing when Lewis is being insensitive about Jeremiah's condition? I thought she love Jeremiah but why is she acting this way? "You shut up Patricia," I uttered with gritting teeth. I am trying my best to control my temper because if not a hard slap already landed on their faces. "You want facts?" I asked then folded my arms around my chest. "Avon," Jeremiah warned but I didn't listen even though I can already see some audience looking in our direction. "Well here is a fact for you Lewis, you are nothing but a dumb insensitive being and you Patricia continue loving that man because you create a perfect match. An i***t and someone who tolerates idiocracy," after saying those I stood up and then pushed Jeremiah's wheelchair until we are out of the crowd. "I'm sorry I lost my temper," I immediately apologized because I knew that what I did pissed Jeremiah off. "Thank you," my mouth gaped open when I heard Jeremiah's words. "Huh?" I asked still in the process if I heard his word correctly. "Thank you for defending me," he uttered then gave me a faint smile, and for the first time after that night when the controversial video happened, Jeremiah smiled at me. Jeremiah's POV I wanted to punch Lewis's face earlier. Leonardo isn't the one who's lucky because it's him, if I can move my body his face must be bleeding by now. I treated Lewis as my good friend but I can't believe that he ended up with Patricia even though we made a rule that we can't date our friend's ex that is not the main reason why I am mad because it is beyond that. The reason why I am mad at him is that he changed. Lewis used to be super supportive but now he acted like a complete asshole mocking my condition. "How did you end up friends with that kind of man anyway?" Avon asked while driving. "Because of business," I responded. "How dare he insult you?" she asked with irritation in her voice which made me smile because I found her cute while she is angry. "You also insulted me remember?" I asked which made her quiet but after a while she defended herself. "That's because you insulted me first. I wanted to get even so all those words. Anger and liquor mixed up so I f****d up and I'm sorry, I am not proud of what I did," she uttered and apologized genuinely. This is the first time that we talk about this matter without me getting mad at her. But as time passed by and when I realized how genuine she is as a person I slowly realize that I should stop being mad at her because she is right I insulted her first and I somehow deserve those words. "I'm also sorry, Avon," I responded acknowledging my wrongdoings. This is the first time that I admitted that I am the one at fault. I am the type of man who values his ego more than anything else but Avon slowly made me realize that it is okay to admit that you are wrong. "You are not forgiven Jeremiah," she responded which made my forehead crease. "I kneeled in front of you remember?" she asked so I nod my head. "Kneel in front of me too, then you are forgiven," she uttered which made my forehead crease. "You are aware that I can't move my body right?" I asked and I saw her in the rearview mirror nodding her head. "Yes I am Jeremiah," she responded then took a glance at the rare view mirror and when our eyes met she smiled. "Take your therapy and medication seriously Jeremiah so you can kneel in front of me or else I will loathe you until the day that I die," she uttered then her smile grew wider and brought her eyes back on the road. When I saw Avon smile I can't help to smile back. Avon felt like a sunshine who can give you warmth by just simply smiling. She is unpredictable which made every moment spent with her exciting. Avon seems like a rainbow after the rain. A source of hope. A light in the dark alley. Avon is someone who will push you to look at things from a different perspective. "You might fall for me if you continue staring," she jokes around so I turned my eyesight to the side and pretended that I am looking at the view outside. Avon chuckles filled the room so I bit my lower lip to stop myself from smiling. She might think that she affects me if I smiled. After a while, he stopped the car. The door of the car opens then Avon helped me in getting off. Avon pushed my wheelchair until we reached the living room area. "How's the racing competition son?" My mother asked when he saw me. "It's fine Mom," I responded which made her smile. "Mom I am taking a one-year leave from the company," I uttered which made my father's forehead crease. "Why Jeremiah?" my mother asked with her voice filled with fear maybe she is thinking that I am planning the worst thing inside my head. "I will focus on my treatment," I uttered, and upon hearing that my mother smiled as if she felt relieved. "I am willing to live Mom," I uttered, and after saying those my parents wrapped me in a tight hug. "Thank you, Jeremiah," my mother uttered then kissed the top of my head.
