The intertwined good-bad news.
RACHEL'S POV
I didn’t care about the good news; my first thought of the bad news was that Raymond was going to take Davina back to London and the café would close down and I’d lose my best friend.
“Which weighs more, the good or bad news?” I asked, keeping myself in suspense.
She brought her hand to her chin like she was thinking hard. “I’m not sure, both are kind of intertwined.”
“Oh!”
Now I was curious, what could it be?
“Which do you want to hear first?” She asked me to choose.
“I don’t care, just tell me both.”
She let out a deep breath before she spoke.
“We will both be going to London next week!!” She screamed.
I had always wanted to leave the States, I wanted to breathe a different kind of air. This was the best news I’ve heard in years!!!!
I almost jumped for joy before a thought tugged my chest. “The Leaser won’t let me go.”
Davina smiled. “He will.” The words were confident.
“How are you so sure?”
“That’s because Kora would be coming, along with Jane.”
Fuck.
“That is the bad news.”
“Yup.”
Why did the goddess hate me so much? I knew how to handle Kora, she hated being ignored and I was learning to ignore her, but Jane? Jane was the queen of witches.
The was the one I usually hid from in those crates.
Jane was beautiful, in face and body, she had hair like sunset and fair skin, many guys had rejected their mates to try her but she just played around and refused to settle down with anybody. Rumor has it that she had been given a mate but rejected him but these days, one didn’t know what to believe.
Jane had made it her life mission to make my life miserable. She spread shitty rumors about me and played the dirtiest prank on me. When I was younger, she had once pushed me off a porch and I broke my leg. I had been miserable for days.
And now, when I finally have a chance to leave this place even if it was for a short while, this witch would be coming along.
“I’m not going.”
“Rachel!” Davina exclaimed.
“I think the old world without Jane is better than a new world with her, I would rather stay behind,” I said stubbornly.
“I would be there with you, nothing will happen, c’mon” She pulled the hem of my dress. “I’ll need you.”
I hope I won’t regret this.
“All right.”
London…. Here we come.
It got to the day of our trip and we flew to London on a British Airways flight. Davina didn’t disclose the price of our tickets to me so I couldn’t tell if they were only delivering the money’s worth or were just totally awesome.
It was my first flight ever and I had hoped to sit beside Davina but the girl chose her mate over me. Ouch.
Lucky me, I sat with a total stranger and was allowed to sit close to the window while Kora sat with Jane. It seemed like my prayers were answered after all. So much for Davina promising to be by my side.
The clouds were beautiful, although they seemed different up close. It was blue and shiny white but it just didn’t look exactly how we saw it from the ground level.
I didn’t feel sick until we were about to land, a wave of nausea hit me but I closed my eyes and tried to catch my breath, when I opened my eyes, I found an old lady looking at me.
“You’re a strong one.” She murmured and looked away. I almost asked what she meant but we had landed and everyone was trying to get out.
It turned out that the main reason we had to go to London was for a very important ball. All the important people would be present alongside the Queen and the Alpha.
Davina had told me a little about the Alpha, his name was Alex, no not Alex, it had muddled up in my head, anyway, the Alpha would also be present. He was the host of the ball and I heard he hosted one every year.
I had never met an Alpha before, because of civilization, the pack had scattered around the world but we tried as much as we could to stay together wherever we found ourselves.
In the ball, the Alpha will meet with various representatives.
Also, the Queen was said to have some information to share. I was curious.
What would an Alpha look like?
“I heard he’s hot.” Davina offered the information.
“Where did you hear that?” I asked. Girls would say more than that even if it was a lie for a man that had so much money and was also an Alpha.
Davina laughed. “Someone else said her first thought was that he used to be a wrestler. He has a model’s physic. All muscles.”
I snorted at that. I will find out myself, tonight.
Axel. His name was Alpha Axel.
We arrived our destination and started prepping for the ball. I got dressed and tied the knots that secured the mask on my face a little tighter than necessary, I couldn’t dare risk it falling off my face and having the queen gasping in horror at how ugly I was.
It would be disastrous. Very.
I walked hand in hand with Davina and did my best to avoid the ambassadors of wickedness that had come with us, luckily for me, I wouldn’t be sleeping in the same room with them as it was supposed to be. Raymond had given up his room for Davina, and we both loved the place.
It was bigger than the room that had even been assigned to us girls.
Davina got me a dark green ball gown saying it matched my eyes which wore a lighter shade of green. I chose a black net glove that felt divine against my skin.
The mask Davina had chosen for me was quite beautiful, it covered all of my face but my lips and chin.
At last, the ball was about to start and the sight of so many beautiful ladies made me uneasy. Many girls had not worn their masks from their suites but waited till the ball was about to begin before they did.
The hall was big and beautiful, unlike anything I had seen before. It was decorated gold and purple with very high roofing which held three big chandeliers. The interior was quite old-fashioned but very beautiful. There were two love statues by the door and a wolf with her cubs in the middle of the hall.
Everyone was socializing and having drinks but I followed Davina around, leaving a little space between her and Raymond.
Davina turned to me.
“How would you find your mate if you do not socialize and meet with other people?” She murmured.
“I told you, I’m not searching for a mate,” I murmured back.
Davina was about to give a sassy reply when she gasped, I turned to see what she had seen.
“That’s Alpha Axel.” She murmured into my ears.
He stood in a high place, watching us all.
I should have guessed that an Alpha would be very handsome and huge. I couldn’t guess his exact height, but I could tell he was tall, his dark hair was perfectly styled and his slightly opened shirt revealed his chiseled chest and his tan skin. His muscles were built like a boxer and his aura domineering. He had a strong scent that would make any lady wish they were his and make any man wish they were him.
His Adam apple was perfectly accentuated under his well aligned chin and an inviting pink lip. I could smell his perfume from a distance and oddly, he scented like the woods mixed with mint and chocolate, inviting me, causing me to lean in with sudden desire to touch him. I wondered if everyone here felt the pull I felt towards him and just as I was about to draw close to get a clearer view of his angelic figure, Davina’s statement brought me back to reality.
“Handsome right?” Davina whispered into my ears making me jump.
“He doesn’t look bad,” I murmured, trying to hide my lust. The rumors had both been right. He was hot and muscular.
“Liar, I caught you staring.” Davina laughed.
I gave the Alpha one final glance before looking away. He looked so dominating from up there. I turned back to see Davina had disappeared.
It was time to dance.
Everyone was pairing up and bowing to their partners.
I looked up to see who the Alpha would dance with but he was no longer there. I felt a tap on my back.
“Can I have this dance?” the voice was deep and manly.
Blue. His eyes were blue, a combination of the sky, the sea, and a garden of gypsophila, in them I could see a flicker of curiosity. yet his smell was so strong in my nostrils, the smell of trees and the forest. An earthy scent swirled round him. His scent proved he was the ruler of the wild.
He was Alpha Axel.
