The Great Exam Disaster – Part 4: College Chronicles Begin Aman had miraculously passed, and his family had celebrated like he had won an Olympic gold medal. But just when he thought his troubles were over, a new nightmare began—college admissions. --- Chapter 40: The Admission Circus Aman had barely stepped into his post-exam relaxation mode when his father dropped a bombshell. “Aman, pack your bags. We’re going college hunting tomorrow.” “College hunting?” Aman blinked. “Can’t we just… pick the nearest one?” Dad gave him the look. “No shortcuts this time. You need a good college.” Aman gulped. The last time his dad was this serious, he had ended up in a 3-hour math tuition marathon. Riya smirked. “Good luck, bhai. Admission mein bhi ‘grace marks’ ka option nahi hota.” Mom, of course, packed four tiffin boxes “just in case.” Dadi insisted they take prasad for luck. Even Badshah the parrot was ready to go, sitting on Aman’s shoulder like a fortune-telling pirate bird. --- Chapter 41: College #1 – The Royal Reject Their first stop was Rajpur Elite College, which had a reputation for producing top scholars, corporate leaders, and people who know which fork to use in fancy restaurants. The family entered the principal’s office, and immediately, Aman knew this wasn’t for him. The students were speaking in perfect British-accented English, using words like "pedagogy" and "epistemology." Aman, meanwhile, was still struggling with "photosynthesis." The principal, a strict-looking man with glasses and a permanent frown, examined Aman’s report card. His eyes stopped at "History – 33 (grace marks included)" and he raised an eyebrow. “So, Aman,” the principal asked, “why do you want to join our esteemed institution?” Aman’s brain froze. He hadn’t prepared for this. His inner panic mode activated. He blurted out: “Sir, I believe in quality education… and also, your canteen has very good samosas.” Silence. Dad buried his face in his hands. Mom gave a nervous laugh. “He’s just joking, sir. He is very… passionate about education.” Dadi jumped in. “Yes, yes! He is also very religious! Bhagwan ki kripa rahegi toh topper ban jayega!” The principal nodded politely (which in principal language means "Please leave.") They left immediately. “Beta,” Dad sighed, “try not to mention food in your next interview.” --- Chapter 42: College #2 – The Rejection Continues Next stop: Rajpur College of Arts & Commerce—a slightly less elite, slightly more normal college. Aman was hopeful. That hope lasted exactly five minutes. “Sorry,” the admission officer said, flipping through his marksheet. “Our cutoff is 75%.” Aman glanced at his 52% and nodded solemnly. “Fair enough.” As they walked out, Riya whispered, “At this rate, you’ll have to open your own college, bhai.” Even Badshah the parrot cackled, “FAIL HO JAYEGA!” --- Chapter 43: College #3 – The Unexpected Turn The third college, Rajnagar Institute of Learning (RIL), was less fancy but full of “potential”—which is what people say when they mean "the building is old, but it’s cheap." The admission officer, an old professor with thick glasses and a kind smile, glanced at Aman’s marks. “Hmmm… your marks are a little low.” Aman sighed. Here we go again. “But,” the professor continued, “we believe in giving students a second chance.” Aman’s eyes lit up. “Seriously?” “Yes. We have an entrance test tomorrow. If you pass, you’re in.” Aman had never been this happy to hear the word ‘test’ in his life. Dad looked at him. “Beta, don’t mess this up.” Mom packed extra snacks “for energy.” Dadi started praying right in the office. Badshah the parrot, of course, screamed: “PASS HO JAYEGA!” For the first time ever, Aman hoped that stupid bird was right. --- Chapter 44: The Test of Doom The next day, Aman sat in the exam hall, ready for the ultimate battle. The question paper was placed in front of him. He took a deep breath and flipped it over. His heart stopped. The first question: “What is the Pythagorean theorem?” Aman’s brain: “Abey yeh toh suna hai kahin… par kahaan?” Sweat dripped from his forehead. He flipped to the next question. "Who wrote the Indian Constitution?" Aman’s brain: “Uhhh… Ramesh Kumar? No, wait! That’s Dad’s name!” He looked around. Other students were writing furiously. He looked at the clock. Only 30 minutes left. His inner monologue began: “Okay, focus.” “What would Riya do? She’d study.” “What would Dad do? He’d give a lecture.” “What would Badshah do?” Just then, he heard a voice outside the window: “FAIL HO JAYEGA!” Aman groaned. Even the parrot wasn’t on his side today! --- Chapter 45: The Unexpected Result After an hour of mental torture, the test ended. Aman handed in his paper, silently praying for a miracle. Two days later, the results were out. Dad checked the list first. His face remained blank. Mom checked next. She gasped. Riya checked, then burst into laughter. “BHAI! This is insane!” Aman’s heart almost exploded. “WHAT?! WHAT HAPPENED?!” Dad turned to him. “You got…” Aman gulped. “…40 out of 100.” Silence. Aman blinked. “Wait… that means—” “You PASSED!” Mom shouted. Dadi screamed in joy. “Bhagwan ki kripa dekh rahe ho?!” Even Badshah screamed: “PASS HO GAYA! PASS HO GAYA!” The admission officer congratulated him. “Welcome to RIL, Aman.” Aman collapsed on the floor in relief. Riya patted his shoulder. “Congrats, bhai. Bas college mein bhi grace marks pe mat jeena.” Dad sighed. “Beta, please take this seriously now.” Aman grinned. “Of course, Papa. I’ll be a model student.” Everyone gave him the “Yeah, sure” look. --- Final Chapter: The New Journey Begins A week later, Aman officially started college. As he entered the campus, he smiled. A new adventure was beginning. Would he be responsible? Would he study hard? Would he finally prove himself? …Probably not. But one thing was certain—life in the Kumar family was never going to be boring. And somewhere in the distance, Badshah the parrot screamed: “AGLI BAAR BHI YEHI HOGA!” ---
