Chapter four
Nancy's POV
I attended the concert for three days like I planned to since I already paid for the tickets and I managed to get Jeremy off my mind for the remaining two days and just enjoyed myself in the concert.
I thought my luck had run out but it looks like it hasn't because Taehyung noticed me at the concert and asked his dancers to bring me up on stage. My legs wobbled all the way and I almost fainted a few times but I held back and went to meet him. I was allowed to touch him and even hug him. Because of that, I've not bathed since three days ago after the concert.
While I was going through my phone, I saw a vacancy in Marvel Corp. This is Jeremy's company right? I think I should skip it so that I won't have to meet him again. But on a second thought, the post is that of an accountant. I don't think I will have a reason to run into him since there is a chief financial officer and I can't afford to be picky right now. If I get hired by Marvel, I will be on an entirely different level. I applied for the job and just prayed for luck to be on my side once again.
*Three days later*
I received an email from Marvel and opened it slowly with shaky breaths. I'm sure a lot of people must have applied for the job so would they even consider me? I opened the email and surprisingly, it was a letter of appointment. I was given the job and asked to resume on Monday which was in two days. Is this a dream? How can I get hired by such a big company just like that without an interview? Could it be a scam?
Fortunately, Melissa arrived at that moment and I decided to ask her since she's been here for a long time.
"Lisa, is it possible to get hired by Marvel Corp without an interview?" I asked her.
"Why? Are you hoping for a miracle? It's impossible to get hired by a small company without an interview not to talk of the great Marvel Corp." she said.
"But I just got a letter of appointment from them" I said.
"Really? Are you sure you're not being scammed? Is it their official email address?" she asked.
"I think so. Should I just leave it and wait for a response from another company?" I asked her.
"You can do that but it won't hurt to try out Marvel first. What if it turns out to be real? You will be losing out on something huge if you don't go and it turns out to be real" she said.
She's right! It doesn't matter even if it's a scam since I will be going to the company itself. I'm sure no one will be able to hurt me in that big company while people are watching so I will just go. It's not even far from my house and I can confirm it in just a few minutes so there's no harm trying.
*Monday morning*
I got dressed for work as early as 6:30 am since I was told to resume by 7 am. I was so nervous since I didn't know what was in store for me but I tried hard to not show it. I said my prayers once more before leaving home and soon arrived at the company.
"Good morning. I'm Nancy White and I was told to resume the job of an accountant here this morning" I explained myself to the Human Resources manager I was taken to after arriving at the company.
"Oh, you're Nancy White? Welcome to our company" the lady said and gave me a warm smile.
So it wasn't a scam all along? Oh my goodness! I feel like dancing with my clothes and shoes off right now because of the excitement I'm feeling but I have to control myself especially since it's my first day at work.
"This is the job contract. Go through it and let me know if you will be willing to sign it" she said and handed me the contract.
Is she kidding me? Why won't I be willing to sign it? We are talking about Marvel Corp here. I checked out the terms and conditions of the contract and they were okay but towards the end, I saw a clause that stated that I couldn't quit the job within the first year or I will have to pay a fine of one billion dollars. Who in his right mind would want to quit this job in less than a year when there's a whooping salary of one million dollars annually? The clause should be changed to five years and it should be five billion dollars instead as fine, in case I act possessed one day and want to quit.
Anyway, I plan to hold onto this job for as long as I can so that my family can live a better life. My previous job paid just two hundred thousand dollars annually but here I'm getting one million dollars for a start which means my salary will increase overtime. I signed the contract as quickly as I could in case they decide to change their mind about giving me the job.
"I will show you to your office" the manager said.
She seems like a kind hearted lady and I wish every other employee here is like that. I love working with kind people because that would make working easier and fun. We soon arrived at my office and I was surprised at how big it was. I'm the only one that gets to use this big office? I'm so happy!
I walked inside and scrutinized every single part of the office but I still couldn't get enough of it. I can't wait to start working.
"Do you like it?" she asked.
"Like it? I love love love it. Thank you so much" I said with smiles all over my face but my happiness didn't last long as a lady came to us and said what I dreaded the most.
"The CEO wants to see you" she declared.
The CEO? It's not Jeremy Anderson right? It just can't be him. How can he ask to see me on my first day at work?
"W...which CEO?" I stuttered.
"Are you asking because you don't know that Jeremy Anderson is the CEO of this company?" she snapped and I felt my legs wobble.
I quietly followed behind her until we got to his office and I was asked to go in.
"Good morning sir" I greeted with my head bowed while trying hard to make sure he didn't see my face.
"So how is your office? Do you like it?" he asked.
"Yes sir, thank you sir" I said still bowing.
"So do you think the world revolves around me now? Are you cowering in fear?" he asked and I slowly raised my head.
"Wait! Don't tell me you believed all of these was a coincidence? I'm sure you wouldn't have been so stupid to think that right?" he further asked and my lips trembled, unable to form a single word.
Don't tell me....
