ASLEIF’S POV
“What? Of course not! What are you talking about Lady Sherilo?” I said.
“Kids nowadays really likes to hide their stuff…” Lady Sherilo shook her head.
“It’s not really like that… don’t get the wrong idea Lady Sherilo… we were just that close really as friends. Nothing more. Well, Kiera is really a friendly person. That type who doesn’t pick her people to be her friends as long as she can trust and feels safe around them.” I said.
“Well… I suppose you are right… I do find Kiera’s personality have resemblance to someone I know and close to.” Lady Sherilo replied.
“By the way Asleif, I thought Kiera wasn’t still aware of your true identity? And then you’ll invite her to the party you are planning?” Zeva crossed his arms, while floating beside me.
Lady Sherilo nodded. “Zeva has a point Asleif, so what are you going to do with that?”
I felt like I was poured with a bucket full of cold water with what Zeva said. He’s right, Kiera’s still unaware of it and then I invite her suddenly to that party.
“Uh… eh… Maybe I can just tell her that I was just invited personally and I just brought her along.” I scratched the back of my head.
Lady Sherilo sighed. “How about, you’ll just tell her the truth?”
“Well, he’s just afraid that Kiera might get distant from him the moment she learns about the truth… considering what Kiera told him.” Zeva said.
“Of what? About the Arcas brothers? Well we all know who’s that person who can literally hurt a person’s feelings by just his words.” Lady Sherilo said.
“Theron Arcas…” Zeva answered.
“B–but…” I was about to protest but Lady Sherilo interrupted. “Why don’t you just try telling her? Just show her that you are different.”
“I agree to Lady Sherilo…” Zeva flew atop my head and rested there.
These two joining forces was a bit annoying really. I could only nod and agree with their suggestion. I excused and went out of Lady Sherilo’s room. I have to wait to Kiera; they’ll be out a few minutes from now. I climbed on top of a tree aligned with Kiera’s classroom. I can clearly saw her, through the window of her classroom.
“So, this is where you wait for her?” Zeva asked.
We just sat atop of the tree. I leaned on one of the tree’s branches, facing the window.
“Yeah, so I’ll know if her class has ended and if she has left the room…” I replied.
“Are you two not really dating each other?” Zeva narrowed his eyes into slits.
“What are you talking now Zeva, did you catch Lady Sherilo’s germs?” I protested.
He crossed his arms. “And you don’t have any feelings for her– y”
Before he could finish what, he was about to say, I grabbed him and threw him away with all my might. Well, I don’t care what happens. Besides, that lion had wings to fly anyways. I just closed my eyes and felt the cool and relaxing wind as it touches my body.
I peeled my eyes wide as soon as I heard the loud ringing of the Academy’s bell. It was the sign that the classes have ended. I touched one of the tree’s branches and created an ice down to the ground. I just slid down through the ice I created. Just perfect time Zeva returned from being thrown off. I could only laugh in the back of my mind knowing for sure, he’s mad again.
I raised my head to check him again, but saw a scratch-like dense concentration of wind. I jumped back to dodge it. The attack was enough to dug a hole on the ground. It was Zeva’s sharp claws magic. I looked up to him again and saw him glaring at me with his arms crossed.
“Throw me again next time and I’ll show you how to get thrown as well.” Zeva said.
The face he made was oddly satisfying, I could laugh whole day. Well, I know that he’s capable of throwing me off really far, so better not mess with him again. I saw Kiera passing by on the far side, so I ran and approached her. Well, the students here knew who I really was as well. Oops! This is bad!
One of the girls around the school, screamed when she saw me. NO! Not because I am a wanted criminal or a serial killer or something like that. But the pillars like myself, were pretty popular all across the land. They must be excited seeing one of the pillars on the school.
Good thing, Kiera was already nearby. I grabbed her hand and pulled her with me away from all this crowd. It’ll be a trouble if one of them would spill who I really was. I did that but it was clear on her face that she was confused.
We stopped running as soon as we arrived at her usual hang out place when her classes were over. Well this place was pretty convenient as this was a bit far from the school building.
“W–what… is it… As–leif?” she asked, still catching her breath after that running.
“No–nothing… in particular Kiera,” I scratched the back of my head and grinned at her.
She took a couple of deep breaths in order to catch her breathing and take it back to normal. She was surprised upon seeing Zeva floating beside me.
“Woaah! So cute! You had one just like Althalos?” she asked.
“Yep… his name is Zeva.” I replied, introducing Zeva to her.
She touched Zeva on his head and caressed it gently, in which Zeva really liked really.
“But wait, he’s like a lion? With a cute pair of wings? Woah! So, these cute creatures really existed here?” she asked excitedly.
“I am Asleif’s familiar, Ms. Kiera…” Zeva bent his body slightly as if bowing after introducing himself.
Kiera chuckled. “You can just call me Keira, Zeva… w–wait? They can talk as well? That’s really amazing. Where did you buy one?”
I could only laugh after hearing what she said. “Well I didn’t buy him, nor he’s on sale anywhere.”
“Really? Then where did you get one like Zeva?” she asked.
“Familiars like us don’t really talk or meet with humans normally…” Zeva replied.
“Fa–familiars? What’s that?” Keira leaned closer to Zeva, making her face close to him.
I crossed my arms and brought my right hand to my chin. “We call a creature like Zeva a familiar. Basically, they are special creatures that can use their own magic like us mages.”
“Is that so? Are they rare?” Keira was still looking closely to Zeva.
“Well they’re not really that rare but, they just don’t quite get along with humans.” I replied.
Keira brought her gaze to me. “What? Then, how did you and Zeva became friends if that’s the case?”
“I–it’s just… um… ever since I was still a kid, we have been friends. Well, he was still inside his egg that time when I got him, that’s why…” I replied, and forced a smile to her.
“Really? They’re really super cute… how I wish I had one as well…” Keira sighed.
Zeva flew towards Keira slowly. She was surprised to my familiar’s actions. Zeva held her hands and crossed them to her chest. He then plopped atop of Keira’s arms.
Keira’s eyes really sparkled when Zeva did that. She couldn’t hide her joy hugging my familiar. I am really glad that the two of them get along so well. It seems like Zeva had taken a liking to Keira. Well, even if this was their first meeting with each other, I have always mentioned Keira to Zeva whenever the two of us were together.
“By the way, what brings the both of you here?” Keira asked, still hugging the tiny ball of fur in her arms.
“Uh… well… that’s…” I couldn’t really tell her straight. This was especially hard for me really.
Keira’s brows met each other, giving me a confused look. Zeva just shook his head, probably disappointed on my hesitation. I really doubt this would work! I couldn’t bring myself to tell her right now, what can I do?
“The thi–thing is… I was invited by a friend of mine into a party. And I was thinking about tagging you along, w–what do you think?” I forced a smile to her.
Keira paused for a while, giving it a thought first. She then replied. “Sure! It’s not like I have pressing matters on my training right now, so there’s no problem about it. What should we wear on that party? Formal or casual?”
“Casual will do…” I said.
“Okay! B–but… I have a request…” Keira darted his eyes to me and Zeva. Her cheeks started to turn red.
“What is it?” I asked. She’s clearly shy about this request I wonder what was it.
“C–could Zeva s–stay here for a while with me? P–please!” She gave me those puppy eyes, that made it hard to say no. I brought my eyes to Zeva.
“I don’t really mind… I guess, I’ll just go home later in the evening.” Zeva smiled.
“Yes!” Keira exclaimed, celebrating that somewhat success she achieved. She was bouncing in joy.
“I’ll just get back here to fetch you later…” I said.
“Okay!” Zeva replied and went back to Keira’s arms.
We just talked about random stuff for a while. I guess, I’ll just tell her later when we get in that party. Well, that’s not necessarily a big party, but rather a small and simple one. Just for our little reunion with the other pillars.
I went back home and left Zeva in Keira’s care. We decided that I’ll just fetch him, tomorrow morning. Zeva agreed to it surprisingly. I guess, they do really enjoy each other’s company. That’s a good thing to know.
KEIRA’S POV
After Asleif left, I immediately headed to my room while still holding this white little ball of fur in my arms.
“Are you really a lion, Zeva?” I asked, while cuddling him.
“Why? Are you still doubting this face? It may be a fierce lion, but I am rather cute.” Zeva replied.
I chuckled upon hearing his answer. “Well, this is the first time I am seeing one… and just like you said, you are rather cuter than a regular lion.”
“Really? After living here for almost a year?” He rubbed his chin on my fingers.
“Yes… I guess you knew that I can only get out here if Asleif takes me with him in his quests.” I replied.
“Yeah I suppose, you don’t want to get out here when you’re alone.”
I just smiled to Zeva upon hearing what he said. Asleif had probably told him why anyways. After reaching my room, I entered and gently placed Zeva to my bed.
“Zeva, I have a question… is Asleif really that crazy? You know, sometimes he’s just… I don’t know…” I shot a question to him.
“Just let him be, we can’t do anything about that… since, he’s been always like that ever since he was born.” Zeva and I just laughed together.
I reached for my towel and went to the bathroom to freshen myself up. After that, I headed out with just the towel covering my whole body. Zeva brought his gaze to me when I appeared in front of him. He immediately turned around after seeing me. I could only laugh at his reaction.
To think that they would be shy as well, when in an awkward moment. I changed clothes immediately while Zeva was still looking away. He was actually reading a book.
“Did you know… if Asleif was here instead, I guess he’ll just stare at me like nothing, or like everything is just fine.” I said.
Zeva cleared his throat. “Well, I guess he’s really clueless about that stuff really, he’s still a kid to me.”
I burst into laughter upon hearing Zeva’s remarks towards his proprietor.
“Well he once intruded here, then opened and saw what’s inside this drawer. He was absolutely clueless just like you said.”
Zeva didn’t replied and just silently read the book he was reading. It almost seemed like he was focusing on it. After I have done changing into my sleeping attire, I approached Zeva and peeked on what he was reading.
ZEVA’S POV
“So, it caught your interests?” Keira suddenly whispered behind me.
“What?” I turned and darted my gaze to her and then to the book. “Well, I just heard some stories about this magic spell.”
“Oh? So, that magic spell had some kind of legend or history?” she asked.
“Yes… the Heavenly Body Magic spell, if I remember it correctly, there was a strong wizard from a long time ago and the wizard used this magic.” I replied, turning the page to the next one.
“Hmm? Sounds interesting… would you mind telling me about the story? I might get any ideas or learn something about that magic, the thing is Lady Sherilo wanted me to train and learn that magic.” She said.
Keira plopped down to her bed, and turned to her side to face me.
“I heard, that wizard was extremely powerful due to the magic prowess they possessed. They had the highest mana capacity as well to wield this powerful magic. The wizard knew and can use this magic so well. But due to the war that erupted between the wizards, there was chaos all over the land. And to save all the people from danger, they created a super powerful magic spell to do that.” I narrated. Keira, was intently looking at me and eagerly wanted to hear the story.
“What was that spell? Maybe I could use it and help me to return to my world.” she asked.
So, this is what Lady Sherilo was trying to say to us. Keira constantly mentioned that she really wanted to return home as soon as possible.
“I’m really sorry, but I couldn’t really remember it clearly… it’s been a while since I last heard about this story.” I replied.
“Is that so? That’s too bad. Well, I can ask Lady Sherilo about that tomorrow, maybe she has some knowledge about that magic spell.” She said, and laid flat on the bed.
I just smiled at her. “Should I continue the story?”
“Yeah, go on… sorry about that.” Keira gave me a shy smile.
“I don’t really mind…” I cleared my throat and continued narrating the story.
“And there, the wizard casted that tremendously powerful spell. Extremely powerful that it was impossible for the other wizards to dispel it. But the trade off in that powerful spell, was the wizard’s disappearance. That was the last time anyone saw the wizard. They vanished completely, no traces of some sort. Nothing. No one knows if the wizard died or was still living somewhere. Some theorized that, the wizard’s body was destroyed due to the tremendous power of that spell. But it wasn’t really proven, no one still knows. It remained a mystery here until now.”
When I brought my gaze to Kiera, I found her already sleeping peacefully. Look at this lady, she just made me a bed time story teller for her. I could only shake my head, and just brought the blanket up to cover her body.
“I just wished that you finished hearing the story…”
I then curled into a ball beside her and went to sleep as well.
