Chapter 10: Triple Date (4)
***
“Soo the result of that date is… nothing?” Frank asked while crossing his arms, looking at his friend who was so disheveled due to have fallen in several bushes along the way home.
Ciel was quite clumsy by nature but running in the dark through an uneven path and also bits of ice on the way, because although it fell snow it almost never piled up… it was quite the injury the man seemed to have sustained.
“It’s not completely nothing, I can say for sure that Angelica likes me! The only thing is that Dante does as well…” Ciel remarked as he brushed off the leafs that were inside his hair, dropping them to the ground.
“Damn… you batting for both teams and winning… well sort off…” Frank remarked while making a gesture of a baseball player taking a swing.
“Is it really a win?” Ciel asked while imagining Angelica’s beautiful face and also Dante’s scary looking one.
“A win and a loss maybe?” Frank remarked while tilting his head to the side.
“I am swinging my bat too much I keep missing the innings…” Ciel continued while slamming his face into the pillow of the sofa he laid on.
“If you go on a few more dates you could get a strike out by Dante you know?” Frank continued to explain things in terms of baseball.
“How? Do I have to throw his balls far away or hit them with a bat to make him strike ME out?” Ciel asked while making a few choice gestures his friend’s way.
“Let’s stop with the baseball analogy cause it’s getting too much.” Frank remarked as the very image of that happening made him feel uneasy.
“Red card.” Ciel said as he imitated a referee blowing a whistle and showing a card.
“Isn’t that in football?!” Frank asked him exhaustedly.
“Love 10?” Ciel asked while raising an eyebrow.
“Tennis?” Frank questioned all the more.
“I don’t know any other sports jargon...” Ciel slumped his shoulders.
“Stop with those at all!” Frank said as he sighed heavily once more.
“Ah, sure, so then what?” Ciel asked him while sitting up again.
“I’m saying if you can’t reject him just make him reject you.” Frank explained in more simpler terms.
“That’s not going to happen.” Ciel said without a second to even think about it.
“Why did you declare that so confidently?” Frank asked him intrigued.
Ciel looked a bit theatrical. “Because Dante is head over heels for me obviously. Anything I do will only make him fall for me that much harder. It’s like I can’t get him off me…” He explained.
“Then… make him fall for someone else.” Frank suggested.
“Who though? I don’t even know what he likes. Besides me…” Ciel said while pointing to himself in an overly dramatic fashion.
“Then… well I don’t know…” Frank gave up and stood up.
“How about you come along for the next date?” Ciel suddenly had the brightest idea in his twenty something years of existence.
“Me? And why exactly?” Frank questioned him instantly.
“Isn’t it obvious? Because by coming along with me I will have more opportunities to get away with Angelica while you distract him!” Ciel continued, his mood seemed to be shifting for the better.
“That’s too cruel!” Frank slumped his shoulders feeling personally betrayed.
“Oh, come on! It’s not going to hurt his feelings that bad!” Ciel remarked while tilting his head to the side.
“Who cares about him?! I was talking about myself!” Frank remarked in an exasperated heavy sigh.
“Right I forgot about that… you’d actually have to entertain him.” Now thinking about it, Ciel did consider it a bit pitiful.
“And how on earth am I supposed to do that, huh? You think it’s easy to deal with that guy? I might be a bit insane but not enough to put myself through that. Even if it’s for a friend.” Frank explained while sitting down at the sofa next to his friend.
“But we’re not just friends, how could you say that! May ash fall on your ass!” Ciel stood up as he declared that in a loud enough voice that their rented apartment’s paper thin walls would surely carry to the other neighbors.
“You mean tongue?” Frank asked confused.
“On both!” Ciel declared unashamed.
“That would be uncomfortable…” Frank reconsidered carefully.
“Me and you, we go way back! We are the best of buddies, we are each other’s soul mates, who are totally not gay!” Ciel continued in that same overly dramatic fashion. He had done theater before but he decided not to become an actor after all.
“If anyone else heard you they’d so totally think we are.” Frank remarked while looking conflicted, unable to make the choice right then and there.
“But we are not! We are just homies, so close that everything we do is shared, our love, our pain…” Ciel continued while squeezing a fist in front of his face and closing his eyes slowly.
“Stop with the theatrics… I get it, I will do it.” Frank finally agreed, seeing as this really meant a lot to his longtime friend.
“Ah, what a cruel faith it would be to be betrayed by my dearest friend for I have found a lover that I wish to pursue, a fair maiden and my most sincere comrade has decided not to assist me!” Ciel said as he stood up and moved his body, swaying it lightly as if there was a violin playing in the background. Each movement carefully planned to show his true deepest emotions of sorrow and the feelings of betrayal he was currently experiencing.
“Shut up, I said I’d do it! So cut it out already!” Frank said as he delivered a quick hit to the man’s head.
“Thanks man, I know I can always count on you.” Ciel said as he hugged the man by the waist and Frank quickly pulled aside, not wanting such closeness between them. Open affection like that made him feel weird and his hairs stood on end.
“Yeah, yeah, but you owe me another pizza…” Frank remarked with a wave of his hand. He wasn’t all too enthusiastic about this plan but it was a necessary sacrifice for him to make… Ciel nodded along and agreed without further need of convincing. He was ready for whatever was to come… Only…
