Noah's POV:
Months are passing quickly. Jasmine is already in the third month of her pregnancy. Grandma thought she might be faking it. She can see that this is not true. Mom thinks it's time for me to invite my girlfriend to stay home. I'm not sure about this. I don't mind her, but she is still in the beginning. I don't know how her parents have reacted to this. The thing is that I don't see them often. She doesn't want to invite me to see them for some reason. Her parents are not bad people. I can go to her house without telling her, but she probably won't like that. It's better if I don't do it. From now on, she needs to reduce stress. Also, no alcohol. My girlfriend is not an alcoholic. Well, she likes to drink a glass of wine sometimes. That will be f*******n. That's why maybe I should go to her next appointment with the doctor. It will be good to be there. After all, I need to know how our baby is growing. I still can't understand how this is mine, but I'm glad to have a kid. I can do a DNA test, but I'm sure it will be positive. Since Jasmine says the baby is mine, I will trust her. I don't think she will lie to me for something like this. The other thing is when it grows up, I will see if it will look like me. I would love that. I hope that Jasmine will have a good pregnancy.
Today, Jasmine has an appointment with the doctor. I will go with her. Usually, my mom takes care of this. I don't know why her mom doesn't go with her. Isn't this like her duty? At least she is not alone. I'm starting to think that Jasmine has problems with her parents. I can ask her, but I don't expect her to tell me. I will focus on the baby. That is what should matter to us. Later, I might try to help her. There is a chance that she won't let me talk with them.
I woke up and went to get ready for work. I got dressed and went to the bathroom. After that, I sat on the bed. There is something I don't understand. Why did Jasmine panic when I asked her about the appointment? I mean, the first time. She knew she was pregnant. Maybe she had a secret. I don't know what I think about this so much. My girlfriend is pregnant. That is what should matter the most. At least, that is what I think. This might help our relationship. We don't look close. I was about to go to the kitchen when my grandma walked in.
- Good morning.
- To you, too. I was about to go for breakfast.
- I came to talk with you.
- Is there a problem?
- That's what I want to know.
- What do you mean?
- I know your mom wants Jasmine to live here. What do you think about this?
- It's a bit early for that.
- You can't let this happen.
- Why? I know you don't like her, but she is my girlfriend. Also, she is pregnant.
- Are you sure the baby is yours?
- I think so.
- But you doubt it.
- Granny, what do you want to say?
- She might be pregnant. The problem is that she uses this to get close to you. This girl doesn't love you. All she wants is your money. When will you understand this?
- I don't believe it. Mom and Jasmine are close.
- Because they are the same. Why do you think your mom doesn't have a job? She uses your dad's money.
- What do you want me to do?
- Find a better girlfriend.
- Mine is pregnant. I can't leave her now.
- Yes, you can.
- What about the baby? It needs a father.
- You will take care of it. She won't be a good mother.
- But there are some things only a woman can do.
- I'm only warning you. I don't want you to suffer.
- Granny, I will be fine. Let's go for food. I'm hungry.
I don't understand why my grandma doesn't like Jasmine. Maybe I need to pay closer attention to my girlfriend. She and my mom are way too close. I won't be surprised if they go together the day our baby will be born. Mom said she had suspicions about Jasmine being pregnant. As much as I remember, she never said anything about it. I need to focus on my work.
For lunch, I went to eat with my dad. I want to know what he thinks about all this. For some reason, my grandma thinks that Jasmine cheated on me. Even if the baby is mine, she will never believe it. I don't know what I can do to convince her. She is not an easy person when it comes to this.
- How is work? Lately, you have been working a lot. You can take a week off if you want.
- No, thanks. I'm fine.
- Are you sure? Overworking won't help you resolve your problems.
- Granny is the problem.
- I don't know what my mom told you, but ignore it.
- She doesn't like Jasmine. Granny thinks that the baby is not mine.
- Don't forget that she thought your girlfriend was faking it. The girl is not lying.
- I don't know what to do. Why does she have to talk like that about her?
- Your grandma doesn't like your mom either.
- She is not perfect, but my grandpa is still with her.
- Listen. Back in the time, people used to work for everything. Sitting and doing nothing wasn't an option. I don't think she can accept what Jasmine and your mom do.
- They were supposed to have a business. Now, I think this was a lie.
- Jasmine can't work much. Things will get a bit harder for her.
- I know.
- Give your grandma some time. She will accept it.
- Mom wants Jasmine to live at home. Are you sure this is a good idea?
- You have to decide this.
- Isn't it too early?
- I will tell you to think about what you will do. Having a kid is not a game.
- Don't tell. She could've waited with this.
- You don't sound happy.
- Because I have a lot of work. I don't know if I will have time for this.
- Your mom and I are here. We'll help. Your grandparents, too.
- Thanks, dad. I will need this.
I talked with my dad during the lunch break. Later, I went with Jasmine for her appointment. Maybe I need a few days off. I keep thinking about the baby and my work. I should separate them. During the afternoon, I finished my work for the day. Well, I called my assistant to help me. I don't know what I would've done without her. She is helping me so much. I need to buy her a gift for that. When I was ready to go home, I waited for my dad. We always go to work together. I prefer it this way. I passed by the kitchen and saw Carla. She looked upset.
- Hey, are you ok? What happened?
- I forgot to remove the mushrooms from the main meal. I'm so sorry.
- So what? This doesn't matter. Why are you upset?
- Your mom doesn't like mushrooms.
- What did she tell you?
- She got mad. Please, don't tell her you know it from me.
- I will deal with her.
- I'm sorry.
- It's ok. You can go now.
- Thanks.
- Mom!
- I'm here. How can I help you?
- What did you tell Carla?
- I don't know what you mean.
- I came home from work and saw her upset. My grandparents treat her well. What happened?
- There are mushrooms in the main meal.
- And?
- She knows I hate them.
- So?
- What so? This woman has worked here for a long time. She should know what everyone eats and likes.
- If you don't stop treating Carla like that, I will fire her to help her.
- What? You can't do that. I gave her this job. The only one who will fire her is me.
- All of us will take this decision, not only you.
- Fine. You can do it. Everyone will agree with me.
- I don't think so. If you don't like mushrooms, you can remove them. We won't stop eating them because of you.
- It's her fault.
- No, it's yours. Stop complaining and get ready for dinner.
- I am your mother. You can't talk to me like that.
- Yes, he can.
- Thanks, dad.
- Are you two against me? - mom asked
- We need to talk. Let's go to our room.
- Fine. - mom said, and they left
I don't know what my dad told my mom, but she was quiet the whole dinner. Carla is a great maid. What more does my mom want from her? This woman can't do ten thousand chores at the same time. It's impossible. After dinner, I stayed in the backyard. I have to talk with my grandma about Jasmine, but I won't do it. I don't want to listen to the same comments again. Things are changing. People now don't act the same as people twenty years ago. She needs to understand this.
- Hey, kid. Why are you alone? - grandpa asked
- Because I wanted some peace.
- Should I go?
- No, you can stay. I don't mind.
- Is there a problem? You don't look happy.
- Why my grandma doesn't like my mom?
- I can't tell you.
- Why not?
- Because this is between them. She never told me. My theory is your mom did something that your grandma didn't like.
- What was it?
- I have no idea.
- Then I will ask my grandma.
- I suggest you not to do this.
- Because?
- Because she doesn't like to talk about this. You better keep it quiet.
- Ok, but she hates Jasmine.
- I will tell you something. Your grandma didn't have the freedom your mom and Jasmine had. She was forced to work from a young age to help her family.
- I didn't know that. How old was she?
- Sixteen. Young people now have so many privileges. You have everything you need and even more. When I was your age, things weren't like that. We were limited in so many aspects.
- Maybe she hates that my mom and Jasmine have so much freedom.
- I don't know. It's a possibility.
- I never knew that this could affect her so much.
- She had a difficult childhood. Her mom couldn't spend much time with her because she was always busy. This is why, when you were born, she was with you all the time.
- She didn't want me to feel the same way as her.
- Yes. Please, don't get mad at her. Your grandma understands things differently.
- I wish she could've told me this.
- It's not easy for her to talk about her past.
- Thanks for telling me this.
- Try to understand her.
- I do.
I talked with my grandpa for some time. Young people look so spoiled now. According to my grandpa, they had nothing when they were my age. I feel bad for them. Things have changed so much in such a short amount of time. Maybe it was for good. New things get discovered every day. I can't change the past, but I can change the future. I will try to talk with my grandma. I know she never meant to hurt anyone. She was the hurt one. I can do something for her, but I don't know what. We don't spend much time together. I hope that we'll have better relations.
